I think it's entirely possible that the Front Man wanted his brother to survive, explaining why he didn't shoot him in the head or the heart. Minutes earlier, Jun-ho asked his captain to send a team to the island. It's plausible that he was rescued by that team, and the Front Man never recovered his body.

I admire the way south Korean series have so much of hidden messages included in it, it's feel like solving up the mystery.

In “Red light, green light” when the doll scans the players there is no outline to “001” therefore he was safe

well the biggest mystery is what that police officer actually recorded when he took hostage of that VIP in that room and asked him to tell all about what he knows about squid game

The red card blue card thing is actually based on a Japanese story where a ghost takes you to a public bathroom and asks to to pick a rad or blue sheet of toliet paper, it does not matter which you choose because the ghost kills you either way. the creator of the show confirmed this

Maybe the red and blue squares in the subway station are based on the matrix, but I’m assuming it’s more based on a Korean/Japanese urban legend where a ghost approaches you in a public toilet, asking if you want red or blue toilet paper. If you choose red, the ghost skins you alive leaving you the color of the red paper you asked for. If you choose blue, you get choked to death until your face turns blue. Depending on which variation, you can only get out alive if you ask for a neutral option (white toilet paper, don’t ask for any at all, etc). The symbolism here is obvious because regardless of which one you choose, your fate is already set, the best choice is not to do anything. I only bring this up, because the choice of red pill or blue pill from the matrix has a completely different symbolism to the Korean/Japanese legend. The former has an intrinsically good vs bad choice, and the latter is a commentary on the futility of your choices in stopping your eventual demise. Good commentary, but I would suggest you take a look at more Asian legends/stories even though there’s a lot of references to European/American things in the movie.

In this show there are only two characters who were "killed" off-screen,one was player 1 and the other is Hwang Jun Ho. Yes Ali too was shot off-screen,but his dead body was shown later on. If player 1 is alive,there is a very good chance that Hwang Jun Ho is alive too ....

Gi-hun actually dyed his hair red because it was out of his character. Something that he would never do. So it shows his resolve and change, but also his internal anger from his experience in Squid Game.

For me the red color implied him finally taking control of his life but also the rage deep inside him that he will never be able to run away from. When we first meet Gi-Hun he’s constantly running from everything: his debts, his family, his problems, everything. It was because of his selfishness that gave him an escape to constantly run away. But in the last episode that person doesn’t exist anymore and can’t ignore his problems which is why for me, it was so powerful he turned around back toward us rather than get on the plane.

I guessed that the old man was behind everything the moment he mentioned that he had a tumour. Very reminiscent of Saw 1, where Jigsaw lay “dead” on the bathroom floor of the first Saw game.

If done right,
Season 2 will be even better. If they pair up Gi Hun with Jun Ho to put a stop to the game. Plus more focused on the guards and how they are chosen...
That would be intense !

so i was thinking gihun dyed his hair to basically show that he's in charge now. that he's in control of his own life now.

As much as I hate to admit it, Ali is definitely dead. We don't see him getting shot but we see his dead body being put into a coffin-box-thing in the opening scene of the seventh episode. So his death is confirmed in the show, supporting the idea that if the death isn't witnessed or visually confirmed then it probably didn't happen.

One thing I noticed, main character dint pay his debt in entire 1 year after winning the game and dint pay even before leaving Korea to USA, although he dint go, no gangster tried to contact him for their money.

I feel like Jun-Ho survived because, If his brother wanted him dead a headshot will do, so I believe his brother did not want to capture him but instead shot him in the shoulder for minimal damage so he could live and escape as he fell into the ocean.

The creator of the series has said that the red hair is just the creator thinking "what is the craziest color a man can dye his hair"

Player no. 001 was also safe during the first game, there is a moment where you can see the players from the red and green light doll's perspective. All the players had a green glow that was probably meant to detect any motion but no. 001 didn't have any green glow so that means the doll was programmed to not detect player 001's movements

my favorite theory about the red and blue choice he had in the beginning of the series is that the blue square means he's going to be a player and the red square means he's going to be a guard. The only reason the guards vary so much and there is no trust in them is because they're also trapped in the game like the players

Off-topic: I think the “Are the guards’ uniforms red or pink?” issue comes from a deliberate choice by the director.
The uniforms look like a magenta shade of red/pink, which seems more red in dim light, and more hot pink in bright light.
The same thing goes for the colors blue and green. I mean, the two envelopes are obviously red and blue, but then, the guards’ uniforms are a shade between red and pink, whereas the players’ uniform are green, which sometimes looks like a dark teal shade.
Anyway, just rambling, I guess. 😅

1:30 Oh Il-nam was actually safe in the red-light green-light game. The doll couldn't sense his movement, as you can see during the scene as the green illumination around each player did not appear around Il-nam or his immediate surroundings.

I thought they referenced all the guards as being either managers,soldiers or workers at one point
With squares acting as managers at the top of the hierarchy
Triangles as the soldiers,the ones usually carrying rifles or submachine guns over their shoulders and tasked with eliminating the players
And circles as workers just used as worker ants to prepare things like the sugar for the dalgona game or move the bodies out after the soldiers killed them, all under supervision of the managers.
Maybe that line about soldiers and players has that subtext behind it but as the guard the doctor killed was a soldier (triangle) it just makes sense to me that he was being literal. If a soldier goes missing he's one of hundreds that are easily replaced or forgotten while each and every player is important to the front man and the organisation as the games are supposed to be fair. If a player went missing without the organisation knowing that would obviously fly in the face of them having the same chance of winning/experience as their peers

I believe in Red Light Green Light, there’s a POV shot from the doll’s targeting system, and it doesn’t register Player 1 as a target.

What are your thoughts on the theory that the people who choose blue paper squares become players and the people who choose red paper squares become guards/soldiers?
Another thing that I haven't really seen discussed much is how racism and capitalism might have a meaning in the series. We know that at least a few of the VIPs are not asian. I've been thinking that the whole game could somehow be a metaphor for (or maybe just emphasizing) capitalism and/or how it affects different countries. No one can deny that western countries like the USA have benefitted from it while other countries like Korea have been exploited. What feeds into this thought for me is that the pictures at the hair salon all featured white people and Gi-Hun specifically chose one of those hair styles.

Best analysis I've seen of the color theory in this show.

Player 1 was not safe during Tug-O-War. You showed one angle of him with his cuffs, but there is another angle of that same scene just right before it when he falls back. You can clearly see the lock on his cuff.

Oh Il Nam was perfectly save during the first game: You can see that he hasn't a green overlay while viewing him from the pov of the statue, meaning he is not targeted by it.

There is a theory that they were supposed to choose the colour when playing the first game in the subway station. And all the game players that we see chose blue (the colour of gamers). Those who chose red were probably given the chance to be the guards (so probably people in a bad financial situation as well, thats why they did it, thats why the sold organs)

Well, this show leaves us with quite an open ending, but if we ever get season 2 I think it would be cool to see Gi-Hun becoming one of the soldiers or the next Front Man himself, you know, some kind of "protagonist to villain" trope

With 456 contestants the prize money would be 455 Billion Won. You don't win your own because you didn't die.
Also there was a hint that player 001 couldn't be killed in the first game because when you see him through the doll camera he isn't highlighted by the computer system like the other contestants are. Neither are contestants near him to avoid him accidentally getting shot.

When a person is dead, his body floats in the water. But his body probably wasn't floating immediately. And his brother him and his fall from a cliff into the sea.2 benefits his brother got from it.
1. The evidence on Jun-ho's phone was gone
2. he didn't want to kill Jun-ho(Most Assumed)

I think the guards may be North Koreans. It would fit the quote about no one caring what happens to them (sadly true in RL), as well as explain why the young teenage guard who took off his mask was devoid of emotion, and why some of them were ok with being in the gruesome illegal trade of harvesting organs. Perhaps the guards are selected in N.K in a similar fashion and are promised freedom over money, which would contrast greatly with the South Korean players obsessions with getting money for a better life. Freedom would be a preferable prize for a defector, just as Sae-byeok wanted to help her family defect from N.K and pull her younger brother from the orphanage. The money she was after was out of need, and only became relevant when a high price was set on her family's freedom, since she did not seem to owe money like the other players did (not including what she stole as the main protagonist since he forgave her for stealing his horse prize money). The games likely also takes place on one of the North Korean islands too. It would explain the poor reception and the fact that they could take a ferry boat to their destination. Red and blue, just like the game pieces in the starter game at the subway station, are also colors in both countries flags.
The old man, too, would have also been a child when the two countries separated. The last scene with him on his deathbed seemed to also be a test for humanity, not just some bet for information. The drunk man out in the cold downstairs puts into question humankind's willingness to rescue those in need. Again, this can be a loose comparison to how the rest of the world has not aided in freeing N.K. When the police do arrive just in time to help the man, there are red and blue lights flashing from the police car, likely more symbolism once again.

Debunk: Il nam was wearing locks. There are rings on both sides of the bracers. One with the lock, securing the strap, the other with the chain connecting it to the rope. You can see this design when they attach the bracers to the players.
In that famous shot, we only see the chain sides (you can see the chains attached to them) which means we just aren't seeing the lock side. But in another shot it's clear as day that he has locks dangling from the bracers.

why is no one talking about how the front man made a big deal about saying there would be no cheating, that these players were to be given respect and a chance all the same, after exposing the dr/organ selling plot. then during the glass bridge game, they dimmed the lights to thwart what was a natural advantage of the glassmaker, when they hadn't ever interfered before, and then on top of that blew up the bridge which injured the players after having won that particular game. the message is clear that the game is always rigged, the house always wins, but it was out of character for this house and front man.

What gave me the biggest clue he was part of it was during the marble game when Gi-Hun walked away and you only hear the gunshot, you don’t actually see 001 die. Key factor in a lot of shows/movies!

I'm glad someone put a video out referencing the line about other possible Squid Games happening in other countries. I feel like it was a heavily overlooked, but important line.
In S2 I hope to see Gi-Hun uncover more about the history of all this while trying to put an end to it. I'd imagine he'd only be able to bring the Korean location down, but may uncover more about it towards the end of S2 which would leave an open ending for a possible S3. My only concern is that they won't emphasize the stakes or just recycle it where it's the same - survival. IMO it needs to be about more than just survival, and there's a multitude of plot twists they can use.
For example, while infiltrating he may discover more about selection. Perhaps its not entirely what it seems and he finds out that the now stepfather to his child is a VIP and was the one that submitted him into the Squid Games. We know he is rich as he just has that money Gi-Hun needed to help his mom with medical bills, but we don't know much else. Maybe he runs the US games and that's the real reason for the move, or maybe he is just a VIP.
Regardless, the way they wrote the show was perfect and the many lines and details that touch on a subject without revealing almost anything at all will pay off in S2. The retroactive story writing/creation possible is bound to give an interesting S2. My rant is more conjecture and conspiracy that I feel would make an interesting next season.

Regarding the drawings on the wall, I was under the impression that they were added only after the games were completed and there were fewer players left. After all, anyone choosing a bed close to the wall would be able to see the hints for the games. I don't think they would risk giving the hints to any of the players so early in the game.
Just my theory.

i think you missed something in the guards symbols. the circles were workers who performed labor like body disposal and cooking, the triangles were soldiers who wielded weapons and carried out executions, and the squares were managers who oversaw low level organization of the workers and soldiers.

There was a sign he was safe in red light green light when they robot looks at the players number 1 has no green aura around him so he couldn't be targeted.

001 likely does have the locks on his cuffs. There appear to be 2 D rings on each cuff, one that attaches to the chain. The other is to lock the cuff shut. This appears uniform with all other players. It just so happens that both of the ones we see in the shot of 001 have the chains showing.
Looking at other players some appear to also have missing locks and I believe it is for this reason
