- We got an inside look at the United States Marine Corps’ intense 13-week basic training program. Senior video correspondent Graham Flanagan spent five days at the Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot in Parris Island, South Carolina, where he observed different companies at various stages of training.
Recruits endure a series of intense physical challenges such as entering a gas chamber, rappelling down a 47-foot-tower, and fighting each other with “pugil sticks.” The Marine Corps is the only US military branch that separates male and female recruits during basic training. In a statement to Business Insider, a spokesperson from the Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot at Parris Island said, “The same gender platoon model allows for appropriate acclimation to the training environment, development of key relationships with drill instructors, and optimal focus during the beginning of their transformation.”
After weeks of extreme physical and psychological challenges, training culminates with “The Crucible,” a 54-hour event where recruits endure exhausting combat scenarios while running on minimal food and sleep.

"One of the most dreaded parts of training is the gas chamber"
*The* *WHAT*
Non lethal tear gas... It wasn't that bad
Jose Perla he knows that
I don't know if you do it in the States but in the UK there are extensive drills around all of those chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats and some of those drills like decontamination you have to do while in the chamber with CS gas.
Thomas Stevens I live in the UK
@@jackwilliams9446 Yeah well over here your not aloud to call it a gas chamber or year gas as it has negative connotation. Just chamber or CS.
But yeah it's a weeks training culminating in drill while exposed to CS. Great fun

Showing the graduation and then immediately after showing the new recruits starting their journey in the barracks was a nice touch. A huge mental game of bootcamp is getting there and seeing the more senior recruits and thinking you will never be one of them.
Lies again? Butt Cheeks
@@NazriB what part of that is honestly lying? It is a mental game and even in the video it says that boot camp is a mental challenge that has to be met accordingly in order to graduate. So please specify what you mean by lying.
@star forge they mean exactly that it's all a mental challenge I remember being on team week and thinking I would neverr get to range week even tho it was only 3 weeks later its all mental even when u know you're doing ur best u still feel like ur not
'1995 worlds strongest man challenge'.
For anyone thinking about joining, do it. It will suck, you be frustrated, defeated, and hating life. But man, there's no other experince like it. The entire 3 months was just amazing looking back. I would do anything to go back through the system. The excitment of watching videos like this before boot camp and then living it was a surreal and a great experience. You need to absolutely have the right mindset however, which is hard to express what exactly it is. If you know you know.
Exactly what’s happening rn. And I think ik exactly what mindset ur talking about because I have that right now and this video is leaning me towards to joining the marines than the navy
And I know.
I'm a bit intimidated by this, a little scared.
Im gonna be joining the Marines at 19 years old, maybe 20 I'm not sure when it starts for me

Your mental toughness is going to be more important.
I always tell people to just remember that almost everything they put you through is to test your mental toughness. To weed out the quitters and the weak minded.
Prepare yourself mentally first .
And that will help get you through the physical test.

Cried watching this. I miss it. Bootcamp was an unbelievable experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life. It’s sucks that once you hit the fleet, all your motivation gets sucked out of you by your senior lances. But you must push on and keep moving forward. I deployed twice, saw the world. But still, bootcamp was the best experience I had in the Marine Corps. Holds a special place in my heart. Now I’m in the Air Force, furthering my career. To any future Marines out there, good luck, and slay, Devil
Motivation and Discipline are for you to keep! Don’t let anyone suck it out of you, you are the captain of your own ship, and you choose your fate. I could’ve followed the same path in the fleet, but I keep that discipline and motivation, and because of it I truly enjoy the marine corps. Boot camp is still my favorite experience, but it is up to you to control your emotions, and your motivation.
"It’s sucks that once you hit the fleet, all your motivation gets sucked out of you by your senior lances."
Can you elaborate on that?
@@brokenpotato438sure thing brother. You see, when you go through bootcamp, you get molded. By the end you feel changed, motivated, accomplished, you actually feel on top of the world because you know you did something hard, you pushed yourself, you feel unstoppable, and mostly proud. But once you go to the school for your job and graduate, you get sent to your duty base. And there, once you arrive, you’re considered a “boot.” You’re the new guy, and people that have been there for a hot minute dislike your motivation. They’ll degrade you ect. At least that’s how the infantry is. But it’s all part of the program. They’re training you to be tough, to be a killer. But once you deploy, and get your own boots, the cycle repeats itself. Now you’re that guy who dislike the new motivated devil, because he reminds you of what you used to be, young, motivated. But instead you’re now broken, your body hurts. And at the end of the day, you know why you went through a lot of sh*t. To rate. Because when you’re new the guy, you don’t rate sh*t. You have to earn your units trust, and respect. Cheers!
@@luisacosta4393 Appreciate the response, man. I'm planning on joining once I finish college in a couple years so I was curious as to what you meant

Currently a sophomore in highschool, and my lifelong career choice was to join the Marine Corps. I often get second thoughts about this decision but when I see videos of Marines on graduation day, it motivates me to keep my dedication toward this career choice. My plan is to hopefully enlist after college 👍
In my opinion after college I highly recommend maybe being an officer as you would have a degree
As a college senior, I would recommend you go to a college with a ROTC program. Do some more research but its up to you.

One of my favorite boot camp memories was during the confidence course. There was this one specific exercise where we had to cross over a large pool by moving sideways by standing on a rope beneath us, while we grabbed the another rope above. The idea was to move, and spread our arms and legs while saying “X”, and then bring them back together, and say “I”. I remember watching the recruits do that specific exercise yelling “X”, “I”, “X”, “I”, “X”. If you know anything about boot camp, you aren’t allowed to say “I” or “me”, so the drill instructor started screaming at us for it. We then started screaming “X”, “This Recruit”, “X”, “This Recruit”, “X”.
Boot camp was one of the most miserable places ever, but I swear the drill instructors throw in a few jokes just to make it slightly more tolerable 🤣

Could be worse. Some people got no one to call. Thank you, Marines. Thank you.
Imagine joining the marines and realize that school wasn’t so bad.
the point is to be challenged, and then rising above it, soaring even. At least for me.
I wanna join bad but I’m short. 5’1 and there’s an obstacle where it’s easier and safer for tall guys

Just graduated 2 days ago glad it’s over
Which instructor did you hate the most 😂
That guy who arrived in "better shape" looks like he's already done the training twice
it’s actually possible, a lot of ppl have to take it twice
@Bendel Wolide we actually had weights for my basic training in fort sill equipment was actually in our bay in a corner although it's a new thing the ds told us we were the first to get it

@@ModelMeHotel despite his anti american sentiments and somewhat ungrateful attitude, we all know he has somewhat of a point. Replying with a roast is fun, but it doesn't adress the very real problems faced by the soldiers and by the people of america with its foreign policy.

I can’t wait to join the Marines. After watching this it makes me want to join even more. I want the challenge and the thrill. I want to be somebody the little kids look up to this is some bad ass stuff. Trust me guys I’m gonna be there one day.

Did you join?
I admire those recruits! Wasn't the same boot I went to in 1986!
When you went the Vietnam influence was still there, that’s long gone. We need it back if we wish to defeat the Chinese, but our bureaucrats don’t understand crap.
Imagine doing all this and then dying to a claymore
Itz CrAzY never thought about that
*Dies by noobtube*
It’s very much possible
This makes me think about D-Day in WWII how there were over 6,000 US soldiers killed in the 1st day of battle. I don’t mean to be that guy but sheesh
