When you have zero knowledge on tattoos but you've watched every season of Ink Master so you're judging these tattoos like you're a professional
Rey Quinzel omggg literally me hahaha!! I was thinking the exact same thing
Rey Quinzel omg I legit watched every season this year😂
do you mean last year

Rey Quinzel definately
the $800 tattoo guy sounds like a freaking therapist !!!💯
Joshua Reji he was pretty soothing but isn't that what tattoos are supposed to be. It's supposed to be with meaning
he even had a clipboard
Christina S nahh tattoo can be meaning for meaningless. Tattoos are supposed to be whatever you want 😝
Christina S sure they can have meaning. But tattoos are also art. You can have a shirt with flowers on it, so you can also have flowers on your body. If you dig the look, go for it.
I would so get a tattoo from him, definitely worth the money
Once the $400 dollar tattoo heals it's just going to be a large black smudge. The galaxy and elevator were not defined enough. Rip to that galaxy tho
ewww it looks infected 4:49
Honestly, the skin looked overworked and the black wasn’t solid in some parts
it looks so bad ew

I literally teared up how beautiful it is.
😂 overpriced with hardly any gray wash!!!!
Hell that $875 tattoo was actually priced very well. The attention to detail and compassion he had showed in the tattoo. I'd actually have no problem paying more for that
i think it was very underpriced with that amount of work
Well the lines were shaky and the blacks weren’t saturated and the grays wash is flat so I thinks it’s way overpriced, p.s I work at a private studio
Look at the lines and details. That tattoo was way overpriced. That guy is a good artist he’s just not a great tattooer .
$875 FOR THAT, THEY RIPPED YOU OFF, THAT'S A $200 TO $400 HUNDRED DOLLAR TATTOO
@@leelunk8235 How do figure? That was 6 hours of work.

ahahahah dying

For $875 that last one was definitely worth it. It hit the sentimental nail right on the head, it was clean and didn’t look messy at all, the artist cared deeply about creating a meaningful piece, and it was done in one session. Great price.
I love the last one the artist did a phenomenal job on it

Of course the two little stars are much cheaper than the elevator with the galaxy sky. That's a strange comparison!
Becca Mei Teh bigger the tatto the higher the price'll be
that's what I wanted to point out
Becca Mei I totally thought that. The guys illustrative work looked so good and $100 for 2 stars is a lot of money. I think that probably works out way more expensive than the elevator piece o.O buzzfeed be cheating
Becca Mei it's because he could have asked for the 2 stars from the most expensive place but the tattoo artist tried to have more meaning and the end result would have been better
Shop minimums cover setup and supplies. That's why smaller tattoos seem more expensive compared to what you get.
I guess I'm supposed to ignore the fact that those eyes look nothing like his aunt's eyes because I watched ink master and now I'm supposedly pretending to be an expert. Except I'm not pretending to be an expert, I'm just saying, those eyes are not his aunt's eyes. Not even close. I'm glad they represent the same thing for him and he's happy but I'm over here kinda lost like wtf?
They're super wobbly and ehhhhhh
Not worth $146 per hour that’s for sure
Yeah I agree..i spent $500 on a much smaller forearm piece of my dog, but it damn well looks exactly like my dog. That $400 tat was rough.
You honestly get what you pay for usually, but research is needed. Most artists nowadays have instagram/website portfolios. See what their strengths and weaknesses are before setting something up.
My artist specializes in realistic animal/pet tats. I sought him out specifically for what I wanted. He's great but I have other tattoo ideas that I'd go elsewhere to have done.
I think we can all agree the $80 tattoo is better then the $400 one
I feel like everyone at buzzfeed should know already that once you see Steven walking towards you, run and run fast
Why? There's a possibility of free food, lol.
Synick true
Why would you do that? He's about to give you three fancy, great-tasting meals! Who in their right mind would turn down *that*?

Is no one going to talk about how Jared got a tattoo of his daughter’s name? That’s so cute!!
It’s just too bad it’s upside down.
People say this is insane that he got a tattoo for a Buzzfeed video and for once I think people are wrong. He probably would have gotten it anyways or not gotten the opportunity if he didn't take it. Tattoos are art, not something you should feel bad about getting.
J.T. Lucido his moon tattoo was for a video as well but he seems to love them all so who's to judge how he got them
Simply Crazy exactly! Now I normally dislike buzzfeed but this video was fun to watch
i don't think it's crazy, life is short, ya gotta live a little
J.T. Lucido there was a video a few years ago where people got small tattoos and Keith got a smiley face on his butt lol
Seahorse Trash that was Zach not Keith lol
This guy should be getting all the revenue from this video for obvious reasons.
im pretty sure they comped his tattoos in return
YOU DON'T KNOW ME MRS. CONRAD. Yeah he probably got all of the tattoos for free because buzzfeed knew they would make the money back on the video
well they probably payed for his tattoos, which cost more than a thousand dollars all in all, he got a good deal without the revenues
ijarritos they had to pay
yeah obviously
When choosing a tattoo artist, it's Important to emphasize the permanence.. if the work you want is out of your budget - maybe it's not the right time to for you to get inked..
Focus on your work and finances first! earn the art your body-temple deserves!
Or build a good relationship with a local artist. I was literally told when got my last one "Well, normally that'd be $200 since you're asking for it in a color, but for you I can go $120." Trick? He has done every one of mine, my mother's, brother's and SIL's. I have a full sleeve, brother has both arms, mom and SIL have 5 or 6, all from him. Guy does good work, so I'll likely go see him again near the end of the year for a birthday tat (get a watch with the time I was born on my wrist. well at least now the tatoo will have some kind of meaning "buzzfeed wanted for me to get a tatoo and I said yes"
I liked how the tattoos came out and the whole concept of having each tattoo artist adding on to the previous artwork, from two simple stars to a galaxy, to having a detailed face tattoo right above the galaxy. The whole process is just amazing, seeing how the artists come up with ideas from their minds and their client's requests. The tattoos look great and they hold a significant meaning to Ben, its a win-win xD!
Naah. I don't feel that. I wonder how many times he'd said that...!?!? I bet he rather do the tattoo and take the money.
I remember watching this when I was 18 and I barely had any tattoos. 3 years later and a year of apprenticeship and this entire video is a joke and a disgrace to tattooing. Period.
Bar Lavi why is it a disgrace?
Hey! Im obsessed with tattoos & the industry as a whole, I have 10 so far with 2 more booked for next week! I’m intrigued as to why this video is so bad? I have my own ideas but haven’t worked in a tattoo shop not have I learnt in depth about tattooing ..please share your thoughts! Xx
@@honey3202 I have a few tattoos and am intrigued by the craft in general. I'm certainly not an expert on tattoos, but it's usually a rule of thumb in life that someone who practices something for only a year and talks like they know more than everyone about it is usually naive and has a world of knowledge to still learn. No matter his reasoning, his arrogance is offensive.
@Synyster agreed. That looked like it could have been 460-500 max. It was good, but not almost 900 dollars good
Tattoos are awsome, the industry not so much.

Especially the 400 USD space scene. I can hear Oliver saying "gotta play it smart" lol. A nebula is just what that space scene needed so it didn't have to look like black crayon all over the place.

Okay, as someone that works in the tattoo industry.. the last tattoo was horribly done. The stencil was amazing, however if you pause the video on the up close shots.. it's shocking at how badly the line work was. There were blow outs, inconsistent lines and it was just... hard to watch someone that has amazing talents, execute a tattoo that looks like an apprentice did it. If he is happy with it, that's great! BUT for $875 and a "year long wait list" That piece should have been flawless.
BluModifier
I agree. The execution was pretty bad even though the actual drawing looked good.
I agree with this so so much. Th composition was great, but the execution was appalling. The shading was inconsistent and the lines aren't sharp.... If the client is happy, then no big, but I feel like the client is wooed by all of the fancy treatment with drinks and "super personal consultation" (which is expected and normal btw??).
I agree, however, at the very end of the video it does have the artist saying he'd usually do that amount of work over a couple of sessions but still. Really not great...
BluModifier that's one of the best tattoos ive ever seen wtf...
BluModifier i think that its supposed to be a little bit rustic and vintage looking. In my opinion, it looks better without super sharp lines
I think is depends on where you live on the cost of a tattoo. My daughter has gotten some really good tattoos and good size ones and didn't have to pay $800. I think her most expensive one was around $375.
My buddies sleeve in Canada was over $1200 I believe
@@zachglisson Almost complete with my left arm so far spent close to $1,200 since my pieces ranged from $60-$500 and I did each piece in sections but this last tattoo that $1,200 would be about $1,800

Click bait. An 80 dollar small tattoo will still be high quality. You should have gotten 2 similar size tattoos one for 80 the other for 800. The title makes it seem like you are going to show the difference between cheap tattoos and expensive ones. Its like saying 100 dollar paint job vs 2000 dollar paintjob and the 100 dollar paintjob being on a bike while the 2000 is on a car.
Excellent point! I was thinking the same thing.
Billy Celli Hmm... never even considered that factor... good point
Yup, I was thinking the exact same thing. Poorly executed experiment.
Billy Celli yea but they're not gonna make someone tattoo their body with something cheap and crappy it's not fair
That's true, but you could still definitely see difference in artistic quality/skill level between the three people. :)
I am not usually fond of tattoos but, yours makes a great statement. I like the ideas incorporated into a theme.
When he started talking about his aunt, that really got me because I’ve had that exact thing happen. My aunt passed last year due to a scuba diving accident in Florida
Am I the only one bothered by the fact that his tattoos weren't wrapped ?? Normally, after getting one you should wrap it and take care of it ! Not just put a T-shirt on O_O
The wrap can be taken off at any point after you leave the shop. Tattoos are wrapped one for the shops sake of keeping it clean, and two for legal reasons. Health codes and things of that sort.
I was bothered too. Not only did he not wrap it, he wasn't applying ointments and kept getting more work done. I'm not an expert on tattoos, but I have gotten two, the shop has given me and my boyfriend, a care sheet and it tells you to keep it wrapped for at least a week so it doesn't get infected or wet cause it's pretty much an open wound. Also to apply ointment and lotion to prevent itchiness and keep it moist.
They don't film it all on the same day and the tattoos looked healed when they were in the car so the likelyhood is this video took a few weeks/months to film
Samantha Bent I have never heard of keeping a tattoo wrapped for more than a few hours. In fact, if you did keep it wrapped for too long it could get infected from excess sweat and moisture being trapped in the bandage. Tattoos may be a type of wound but the care is much different from any other wound you could get unintentionally.
i really dont know but i have watched so much those tattoo Shows from tv and they always wear tgem like couple weeks, maybe they change it??
After this video:
$9 tattoo removal vs $900 tattoo removal
On the Pitch 9$ removal = paint thinner and a Stanley knife
Those are great tattoos tho
On the Pitch 😂😂

they're not fake. you can see them in other videos.
It would have been even more interesting if you used the same concept for all the 3 tattoos, and see which one turns out to be the best. You can't really compare 2 tiny stars to a half sleeve tat.
800$ for that honestly seems worth it for a meaningful and deep tattoo

I don’t know a thing about tattoos and I have no intention of ever getting one- but what I really liked about the tattoo artists in this video is how each artist was respectful of what art was there before what they applied; rather than “cover” or “modify” they “complimented” what was already there (for lack of better terms)

My first tattoo was when I was turned 21 and its a beautiful cherry blossom on my wrist it was $80 its still beautiful and eye catching.
I just got a new tattoo Sunday in Pittsburgh PA at a highly rated shop it's a half lion face with an arrow going down the middle with flowers and petals falling. Its the start of a short sleeve tattoo I'm getting done. It was $200 and its BEAUTIFUL we gave our tattoo artist a $40 tip for his work as a thank you. Both tattoos are at a large price difference but I still get compliments on my $80 tattoo.
So its all about the quality of the work you get!
Why didn't they just get three different people getting the same tattoo?
Chaparra Yay yes that's what I thought!! compare the quality of each one
The size of the tattoo also determines the price.
|-/ ^
As someone else said, the price would change depending on size, but if you said "We have [x] amount of money, do as good a job of this same drawing."
Yeah or just three different people. Putting this guy through 3 in such a short period seems really unnecessary.
I wonder if buzzfeed paid for the tattoos

It's almost like... the more time and work involved, the higher the cost of the tattoo. Crazy.

A Dic In My Spagett R/wooosh
so this guy literally got a tatoo for the sake of a buzzfeed video?
Leroy Amon sure but think about it the other way BuzzFeed gave him tattoos
He was already planning on getting tattoos in the future. So this is a win-win situation for him. He got two expensive tattoos and also got paid to make the video, when he was planning on spending hundreds by himself one day.
No, he got 3 :3
He probably decided ahead of time he wanted more tattoos and buzzfeed just decided to make a video like this out of it.
If they were paid for, I would definitely go and get some free tattoos. Maybe not a space elevator or my aunt's eyes though. lol

people bitching about the cost of tattoos need wake up call. you pay good money for good art to be with you the rest of your life. people waste hundreds on sneakers etc that last a year or so but haggle cost on a life long decision. I've been tattooing for a while and If I tattoo four 6hr pieces a week I also do a further 40+ unpaid hours towards that work
kel tait ikr. I don't do tattoos, but I do a lot of art, and I don't think some people realise the effort that goes into making a good piece of artwork. Not to mention the added pressure there would be if you're working on somebody else's skin, knowing that whatever you do is permanent.
SO TRUE thats 900$ or 2/3 months saving for a incredible art you will have your entire life
kel tait yeah but also tattoos also get faded so you have to refill them
As long as it's not a minimum price thing I'd agree. The tattoo shop nearest to me had a minimum of $50 per tattoo last year then upped it to $100. It's ridiculous to pay $100 for a tiny two inch semicolon tattoo my friend got. It wasn't artful, it was a stencil-plain black.
if us barbers could get people to feel that way about a haircut the world would be a better place lol
When Ben was talking about his aunt I cried. It’s a lovely tattoo. It’s spectacular
I like this 1, good video all around 💯
the $400 piece definitely could've looked better. the galaxy and stars didn't flow naturally and it was too dark
More like too light, needed more dark coloring and contrast
i really liked it when they had the stencil with the background being purple but i guess he's going for a black &white sleeve
Wait until it heals and it will get lighter
Yous do realise a tattoo will fade after it's done healing? Obviously don't have tattoos anyways 😅
Adam Connolly a tattoo fading doesn’t always mean it will look better some, and this one even, looked worse after time has passed
What's the point of making Steven stay outside if the camera is recording everything, Steven can literally just watch it later :/
I was thinking the same thing
I assume it's so Steven can't influence the process.
im guessing space issue or he might be a distraction
well.. i think that Steven is the 'host' so he is usually talking, asking questions etc. and the camera crew/man is 'invisible' in a way. he sits quietly doing his job, so he is Kind of 'not there'.
Meilin clearly so he isn't interrupting the conversation
This is the reason why I have not settled for just anyone to do my next tattoo. I'm saving up my money to get the best person to do it in honor of those that it represents. I wish I could find someone like Scott Glazier close to me that would put that amount of time, pride, and care into my next piece.

Now life brings me full circle as I'm trying to gather as much care information about tattoos before my first one, and now I get a crash course view at not only the shop but most importantly the Artist and the quality of their work.
I only made it to @1:51 and I'm already impressed and know EXACTLY Where I would be heading for my first tattoo.
Ill also be sure to bring uo this video and read this comment outloud while in for my first session sometime in the future, after all this Virus BS is over.... Or something.

"the highest end tattoo you can possibly get"
"$875"
Right? They have a video where they spend $25,000 on sneakers and don't even break $1,000 on their high end tattoo?!
I went to a moderately priced tattoo artist and spent about 1200 for two sessions 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🙃 so
Mako Yuhara total I’m guessing...
It always depends the time they work with you, the size, the color. There's alot that actually goes into the price. If he would have gotten a bigger tattoo. It easily would have gone into the 1500 rage to easily over 2000.
In all reality he got a better bargain than the elevator piece and in the end a much better tattoo. 6 hours or so of time for 875 isn't a bad deal at all when you see a lot of black tattoo work at around 1500 an hr
Why am I reading these comments like if everyone here a tattoo artist
This
Because we all watched Ink Master /s
Ink master has taught us all lol
Right!
@@melaninstrength1853 weve all watched ink master, now nothing compares😂🤣😂
Somewhere somewhere else, she's proud of you that your soul still remembers.
Honestly the most expensive tattoo price was totally worth it, it was so beautiful and meaningful and he really put so much time and thought and heart into it
well tattoo is a collaboration of the artist and the person that wants the tattoo..
Absolutly! For me it was the winner! 2 stars 100 dollars??? WTF! they werent even that cool or hard to draw or tattoo.
The last tattoo artists is the real tattoo ARTIST. He makes art pieces, he is amazing at drawing. He draws exclusive art pieces that he tattoos on people. He draws marvelously, he touches up the stencil free-hand and than he tattoos with excellent technique. That guy is AMAZING.
I totally agree
If I ever get a tattoo, I would want someone like him to do it. 875$ for such an amazing art work? I'm in.
I agree but i'd rather get an iphone or a ps4.
$10 dollar strip clubs vs $100 strip club
10$ strip club will get you a place with a slight aroma of cheese in the air..... with no food in sight
$10 hooker will get you to a $10 million doctor....
hockeybros I
hockeybros YES!!!!
10$ this is inappropriate 200$ please stop
Surprisingly Mike did my tattoo and really understood the significance of the work.

This video was actually super heartwarming wtf.

"She was the human embodiment of joy." Wow. I hope someone remembers me as such when I'm gone.
8:29 look at the poster in the background
It’s him lmfaoo
The artist who did the $80 tattoo, would probably give you the best $800 piece you have ever seen. But, the dude from speakeasy tattoo actually puts a lot of thought into it. And I like how the consultation works. Pausing the video however, and studying his work, I believe that even though the 80 dollar tattoo was the most simple, it was also executed the best. $80 FTW
Marshall hansen I cant say much about the stars but that octopus they flashed up on the screen looked awesome
I was LITERALLY thinking this. I feel that the experience is lovey at SpeakEasy BUT the $80 guy would’ve done a much better job by technical matters
@@geministargazer9830 I agree, I was hoping he'd get an octopus
Marshall hansen I think their both high end but I’m not educated in this art by any standard
That consultancy work is standard in the UK, should be standard in every studio around the world
Space tattoo, should have been colour like purple or something, just way too black
Jerich0 I think he did that on purpose, since the previous tattoos were also black and white. Keeping it all in the same tones makes it more of a whole...
Jerich0 it will fade out to not be so black and solid in a few months
Jerich0 I personally don't like colored tattoos I think black looks very clean and neat
that's why it's called blackwork.
Jerich0 I thought that but then I remembered that when it heals it will look great
Glazier rocking that orange seiko monster
I watched this 4 years ago, and decided I needed one dedicated to my grandpa and yesterday I got it
