Bob Pickleson LA isn't a maybe. It's a definite "yes". Remember Rodney King and shit? Police officers committing felonies - I know of a few though I can't remember the guy's name.
Marty could have filmed himself doing it and the police still wouldn’t care in the slightest
this is a ridiculous statement. of course with that much evidence, the police would arrest and the courts would convict.
But seeing as this didn't happen, and there wasn't really any evidence before Marty died, the police couldn't do anything.
Also, there is the real possibility that Marty was innocent
@@johanvajse8410 1: sir have you never heard of a joke before

I can imagine the next story being Marty was found with a bloody knife in his hand 13 witnesses had seen him do it, and he said to the police "I'm glad I ki lled the bas tard!". And the police still felt their wasn't enough evidence and ordered the victims family to pay to dry clean the blood off Marty's Jacket.
This is a Blackadder reference but you could imagine it.
The fact that they tore down the house just further pisses me off. No one can convince me otherwise that that was intended to cover up any other evidence.
Yeah, it really seems suspicious.
like Geogre Sodder bulldozed over their burnt house so no one could find any remains of the children they left behind when it was on fire?
you can't think one is suspicious and not the other
so if the keddie cabin was torn down to cover up any other evidence, then we know the Sodder Family's motive too
Or it could be that the landowners didn’t want a cabin only know for a triple homicide standing abandoned
Initially I was inclined to agree with you, but upon further thought I think maybe the owners of the cabins no longer wanted the campsite to be associated with a horrible event. Or, maybe too many people were going ghost hunting/loitering around the site in a way that was either unsavoury or unsafe. I think it really depends on who ordered/encouraged the cabin to be demolished, I wish the boys had looked into that! I think that’s where the answer lies. Tbh, if something like that happened on my property, I’d destroy every structure & start from scratch.
The house was torn down 23 years after the murders... they sure took their time in "covering up" the evidence lol

They’re actually known for being the stupidest people you’ve ever met usually.
I’ve had a few situations that would blow your mind.
My brother-in-laws grew up in Quincy (right by Keddie) and his mother went to school with the daughter who was murdered. He said that the whole town knew it was Marty Smart who killed them but the police were corrupt and didn't do anything. The police chief played football with Marty Smart in high school, and it was common knowledge in the entire town that Marty Smart was the murderer..
Wow ..

imagine being sheila and having to carry the burden that your family was brutally murdered and if u hadn’t decide to sleep w ur friend u would’ve been too. imagine the intensity of that survivors guilt
I can’t imagine going to sleep and the next day you find virtually all of your family murdered. I hope her and her 2 brothers are doing okay. I can’t imagine the pain of losing their loved ones and still not being brought to justice.
I actually know Justin. Left him a little messed up but overall he's doing well. He doesn't like talking about it. I can't imagine though what it was like for her though.
The guy moves out of state, writes a letter to his ex-wife confessing to the murders. Admits to a therapist that he murdered the 4 people and left his son and the people in the room with him alive. Gee, I wonder who it could be! Either his ex-wife was an elaborately skilled manipulator or he murdered the 4 people in the cabin. I'm gonna believe the later.
His wife doesn’t sit right with me. Whenever there is something that is possibly incriminating her (receiving Marty’s letter and counseling with the sheriff), she says she “doesn’t recall it”, which is a weird excuse to use twice. As well as one of the murder weapons being dumped while the rest were left at the crime scene. I’ve been rewatching the episode a few times and the more I think about it the less sense it makes. It seems like the three of them each have different stories, which leads me to believe that the sheriff was somehow connected to the Smart’s in terms of the murder. I don’t know tho, maybe I’m too obsessed.
@@LP-ej7ez I think it's only natural to become obsessed. You want things to make sense and they clearly don't. It's difficult to live with something like this when there isn't any evidence to connect to a suspect. But when there's a lot of people with different accounts and evidence that points in every direction it's hard to get past it.
@@LP-ej7ez she knew what happened. But she didn’t want to get the blame for causing the murders (or she didn’t want retaliation from Marty), so obviously she’s going to say “I don’t remember” when questioned about it.
Read the whole letter, not just the highlighted part. You will see that Marty was talking about him giving up his own four children to be with her. The highlighted area is said to be taken out of context by lazy reporters who didn’t research the full letter. The full letter is easily found online.
@@LP-ej7ez i think its pretty understandable why the abused woman wouldnt wanna rat out her abusive husband (ex husband?) and his coverup guy especially after the abusive husband probably just killed a woman and nearly her entire family just for meddling in the marriage, yknow?

The "I've paid the price for your love" part of the letter sounds like the delusions of a self-justifying abuser more than an indicator of Marilyn's feelings. It'd be totally in line for a spousal abuser for Marty to have convinced himself that Sue was poisoning Marilyn against him, and that killing Sue would have ~*magically*~ broken her influence over his wife, making her amenable to reconciliation again.
Marilyn's memory loss and/or reluctance to give evidence against her husband, even after his death, read like symptoms of PTSD, which I would wager she has a massive case of 😔

I’ve always felt really bad for what Tina went through. She most likely witnessed the murders of her family members and then was snatched away and eventually was murdered herself. What a horrible thing for a child to go through. I have a daughter who is just a few months younger than Tina was at the time of the murders….it just breaks my heart. I hope she wasn’t harmed too much before she died.
And I’d assume she was probably assaulted in the meantime. why else would they have taken her? Horrible
@@slideshowgurl her remains were found with a medical tape dispenser and her pants had been ripped :( she was taken for a reason
The fact that Marty Smartt apparently had a boiling hatred for Johnny Sharp, and that he left his son alive in another room, as well as Justin Smartt claiming to have seen the suspects means that it seems like they intentionally ignored them. The wife also claimed to have seen her husband and friend burning a hammer at 2 am. All the murder weapons were left in the house because they belonged to the Sharp’s except the one Marty Smartt owned, his own hammer.

With the letter from Marty Smartt, I think it could've been him telling his wife (even tho she never got the letter) that he killed for her. So it wasn't his wife who wanted it, but the way he saw it was that they needed to be killed. And it helped his marriage in his mind. But in her mind their marriage wasn't fixed so he was asking what else he has to do for her (like to win her back).

Probably more than we think
I don't know about the handling in the US but in Germany there is a thorough re-examination. Mostly when they want to test new gadgets. They're still nowhere closer to solving most of the cases which 3just baffling at this point
right. at this point im convinced they just burn all the evidence every time they close a case. especially since so many older cases could probably be solved literally just using the technology we have today on the preserved evidence but for some reason they just don't?

They didn't really bring up Marilyn's inconsistent behaviour or why she acted in the way she did. Honestly, I think it was the safest way for her to try and get the truth out while being terrified of her murdering ex-husband, i.e. saying she doesn't 'recall' certain events or letters, but confirms his handwriting. I get the feeling she tried to have the evidence speak for itself without putting the bullseye on her own back. Too bad the police just hosed down the facts. I don't think she's involved in the coverup.

One week later in mid July 2021, the Dixie Fire broke out and the fire went right through the neighborhood where Cabin 28 once stood. According to the burn map the flames are showing they were right across the street from where the Sharp’s used to live. I hope some of the area managed to survive. It’s a beautiful area, lots of pine trees and the Spanish Creek runs nearby. As of right now (Aug 2021) the fire is still burning and has claimed 250k acres.
My cousin took me to Keddie after the fires and all of the remains of the house have been destroyed
“Police in the 70s and 80s were like ‘oh you murdered someone? Do you have 40 bucks”😂😂
These people have the best names, Jonny Sharp, Justin Smart and the greatest Bo Boubede.

As in “Marty Smartt” boys?🤔🤭
I shouldn’t find this funny 😂
"Police in the 70s and 80s were like, 'oh you murdered someone? you got forty bucks?'"
police nowadays are like "oh, you murdered someone? so have i, and i got a paid vacation out of it!"
Great! Just saying not all cops are like that but I'm not gonna say that their all good people. There are some fucked up cops out there.
@@namename1379 hey, let's be honest, there's fucked up people in all jobs and throughout society. Don't let the bad apples ruin it though!
I genuinely love this comment lol
😐
@@talon_xi165 i mean given that the origin of the bad apples phrase is that in a barrel, a couple of bad apples will rot them all, bad apples will by definition ruin the rest
this was my great aunt and cousins... its amazing to me to see so many people curious about this.. to me our family doesnt talk about it.. especially my grandpa.. i do hope they solve it but the prime suspects died.. god bless everyone making this still active

It's not hard though it's kinda just psychology lol I mean I sit and think "if they did this or this they wouldn't have gotten caught" but I also think "the police had this and this and still couldn't find who did it and this and this"
TheArchitect813 Lol. Shane’s just putting himself in someone’s shoes.
It’s easy to think about why many killers would call. It’s mostly to taunt the victims. Many times, they want that feeling of “living in the edge”, and if they succeed in calling and not getting caught, it’s their greatest feelings. But then again, this is just my theory.
I think we are onto something Chief.
Honestly,i can
with their big black SUV, Shane and Ryan look like some kind of government official searching the area
Right up until you hear them talking, and you realize it’s just a couple of chuckleheads being idiots.
This needs more likes 😂😂😂

Maybe thats why that one guy in his truck just stopped and stared at them (they talk about it in the post-mortem)
I hate it when I can’t stop fighting with my husband and we have to go see the town Sheriff
Ok but that forest is absolutely beautiful, some might say it look creepy, and it does, but it also looks gorgeous
*7:13* psychologists believe that part of the reason why serial killers stay "close" after committing their murders, i.e. call and leave anonymous tips, return to the crime scene, write taunting letters to police, keep "souvenirs" etc. is because they are trying to re-live the adrenaline and excitement they experienced while they were committing the murders. Once it's all over, they lose that feeling, and desperately want to get it back.
Me when I watched criminal minds once:
jkjk-- I'm pretty sure that's all true
Criminal minds?

Terrifying that only 66 people live here, that's my junior and senior year classes combined. You'd know everyone really well. Someone there knows who did it. I'm telling you.
Lena Murphy 🤔🤔🤔🤔 hmmm...
Or at least a good few people know something small details and combined could create a realistic timeline for who was where or doing what that night
Good point
those are some small classes omfg
Martin Smartt most definitely did it.
Shane and Ryan don't seem to know just how hard little kids crash, and the stuff they can sleep through.
Yeah but people screaming for their lives in the next room?
@@cprow0997 yep. It really doesn't matter. Kids have slept through murders many, many times. They sleep through massive fights, even natural disasters like earthquakes.
One of my favorite episodes. Love when they visited the sites. The last few years it seemed buzzfeed didn’t want to spend the money for travel and lodging

Lol. Zuckerberg wishes he chould be Shane. People still listen to Shane.
Yes
KZL say he's Mark's underrated cousin
This comment is gold 😂
In a taped interview of Marty Smartt by a DOJ officer, The DOJ officer questions Marty if he thinks his stepson Justin, who was sleeping over in cabin 28 that night could have seen or heard anything, and Marty answers talking about Justine, "He is quiet. He could have noticed something without me detecting him.". Then Marty quickly changes the subject. In my opinion, Marty just placed himself inside cabin 28 during the murders, and Marty himself realizes it too. krplus.net/bidio/YdKDX5R7i2nHYqQ
"Are we going to stop into town and tell them what we're doing?" OMG guys, I love your shows and you just gave me a laugh that I desperately needed. This is a horrific case, and you did an amazing job of covering it. I'm not trying to make light of the case at all, but that question was just perfect. Thanks for everything that you do!
