      @johnnnyoh 3 년 전 +1

      Joseph Aleman I actually meant being in the mob or being used by the mob is sort of the same thing being that your used either way , of course it’s different especially if his grandpa is Italian and didn’t get made but there’s associates that are full blown in the family they just don’t get made because they not Italian Meyer Lansky was one of the top guys in lcn across the nation his entire life , for years Dutch Schultz had a seat as a one of the bosses of ny on the commission , bugsy Siegel another example went out west to run a syndicated operation, lepke etc. these dudes all associates being that they Jewish, then more recent you have jimmy Burke an Irish associate who at a certain point had his own crew in the lucchese family he was basically a capo, joe watts a German who was top tier in the Gambino family etc etc the list goes on there’s plenty of dudes who were or are in lcn that aren’t Italian so couldn’t be made but were serious high level guys within the family or the crew of the family they were in.

    I’m also from NJ. When I was 10 to 12 years old my mother was engaged to a guy who was in the Italian mafia. His name was Frank and he was my step father for two years. He looked and dressed like your typical 1980s mobster. Gold chains and watches, money clip the size of your fist. Had a pager and a gun and a hand held stun gun. At that age I didn’t really know what was going on but thinking back on those days it was so obvious. He’d have meetings with other mob guys in the kitchen. We always had everything we wanted. We didn’t own a house but lived in luxury apartments and condos. My mother’s car was actually blown up in my grandparents drive way with all our laundry in it. Eventually he got busted. One of the guys who was coming over to the house was a low level drug dealer/user who started wearing a wire. I guess the FBI eventually had enough evidence and they busted down our door while I was at school. The informant guy mysteriously drowned in a swimming pool months later. We started living with my grandparents after that. He got something like 12 years for drug and gun charges. I never saw him again. Years later my mom explained the whole story to me. I kind of miss the guy. He was strict as hell but I remember learning a lot from him in the small time he was around.

    I doubt anyone cares, but I felt like sharing my family's history, since this guy just shared his. My grandfather's older brother (my great uncle) was a Czechoslovak spy, disguised in the Soviet government, while Nikita Khrushchev was the leader, to hand over information about the Soviet Union's plans and proceedings to the Czechoslovak government, which was facing risk of Soviet invasion. He started this work at just the age of 21 in 1960. This invasion later did happen in 1968, but this was years after my great uncle's disappearance. My great uncle disappeared without a trace in 1964. I do not know for sure what happened to him, as my only information comes from my grandfather, who believes that the Soviet government killed his brother after discovering that he was, in fact, a Czechoslovak spy.

      40 years ago, I would have said that maybe it had something to do with an immigrant group coming here and finding a way to get ahead. As far as sharing the same values that we all do, such as respect, family, etc, we also have to point out the fact that there are definitely some values that we do *not* share such as killing other people, hurting other people, etc

    My family is from sicily and my grandparents owned a bakery and my nonna always said that we never had anything to do with the mafia and that the guys that they paid on a monthly basis were "two very nice, sweet young men. They just collected the money and we gave him some biscuits and the money. And then they left. Very nice young men. One married your aunt. "
    Nonna, how... I'm pretty sure... well...

    I told my mom once that I had a classmate who's dad was in the military, and she told me to be careful with telling him my last name. I was confused, but I obeyed nonetheless. Skip a few years later, my mom tells me my uncle had been arrested. I tried asking on what charges, but she just ignored me. Being curious, I searched up his name and saw that he had been arrested for large scale drug dealing. But then a few days later, it updated from drug dealer to supplier. Apparently he had been using the family's land that was under his jurisdiction for growing hallucinogenic plants. My family knew but didn't snitch on him. Apparently, he also was closely tied to a few criminal syndicates.

    My family used to live in Chester, PA. My mother had 'German Measles' while pregnant with my brother, which caused him problems. During and right afyer birth, my brother would literally stop breathing for a minute at a time every two or three minutes. About three hours later, he was finally breathing on his own, but part of hos brain had died, leaving him handicapped. The doctors told my parents to send him to Pennhurst and forget about him. My parents ignored this advice. My mother's grandmother wanted to go to the local government. She had gone to school with the top official (mayor? Governor?), but mom refused. She knew that the man was a 'Family Man'. Meaning mafia. She didn't want to owe the mafia some unknown favor later. However, my mother pointed out that back then (1960s) the mafia took pride in their neighborhoods and helped keep them safe. Two sides of the same coin.

    I’m also from Jersey. The sopranos was filmed in my town. My parents were friends with the family living by where the Sopranos house was filmed. One of the characters on The Sopranos was based on a member of that family. It’s also where the creator David Chase grew up so I’m sure a lot of characters were based on real people.

    I and a few classmates flew to a small town in Calabria for a student exchange program a few years ago, the majority of us ended up with a mafia family. At one point some of us were almost arrested but luckily family ties managed to resolve any issues. They seemed alright and their children where normal nice kids too. I don't know how my school allowed for this tho.

    Well my uncle did some type of work for whatever cartel in TJ. I don't know what he did but we think he hid drugs in cars for them. Before he was killed his daughter was followed and the man told her "tell your dad to take care of you". Not long after a sicario was waiting for him outside his home where he gunned him down and drove away. Some guy no one knew attended the funeral and just watched us too.
