Dear friends and followers, welcome back to my channel!
With a huge 220 knot wind speed in the core of the Polar Jet Stream, the weather on Saturday 8th February 2020 made it a record-breaking day for transatlantic flights. Golf Charlie India Victor Papa, a British Airways Boeing 747-400 flying from New York to London flew the normally 6-and-a-half-hour flight in just 4 hours and 56 minutes, arriving a massive 80 MINUTES ahead of schedule!
Itβs important to remember that despite the 747 reaching a peak groundspeed of 716 knots respectively 825 miles per hour, almost 130 knots faster than the speed of sound at FL350, it did not at any point fly supersonic and your immediate question is how?
That's what we will be looking at in today's video :)
Thank you very much for your time! I hope you enjoy this video!
Wishing you all the best!
Your "Captain" Joe

Uncle Bens planes are going to require pilots for at least the next 100 years, you donβt have anything to worry about. If you youβre worried about paying for training, why not join the Air Force and get free military training? That way when you leave the Air Force airlines are more likely to hire you because they look for people with military flight training

5:26, joe how can 1 Ton of jet a1 produce 3.15 ton of CO2???
mohamed irshad I was going to ask the same...
It's a combustion reaction
The carbon in the fuel is being combined with environmental oxygen, hence the greater output- there's an "invisible" input source (aka the air going through the turbines) that you aren't factoring in
Kerosene is a hydrocarbon, so it contains around 11-13 carbon atoms in one chain. For stoichiometric burning of the fuel, you need for each kg of jet fuel 3.4 kg of oxygen.
After burning the fuel you are left with 4.4 kg of exhaust gases (mass conservation/Lavoisiers law). The exhaust gases are mainly 1.23kg H20 (water) and 3.16kg CO2 (carbondioxide). The rest is NOx, SOx, CO, soot and some unburned hydrocarbons.
Simplified balanced equation for the combustion of kerosene:2C12H26 (l) + 37O2(g) ---> 24CO2(g) + 26H2O(g)
Hope I could be helpful:)
@@christianmandle6111 exactly right, thank you for doing the actual chemistry for me!
@@christianmandle6111 Thank you - i was looking for that explanation! This comment should be pinned
Wait! You got me confused: you have ground speed, true air speed and you say that the speed on the PFD is another one? What is that speed? Is it because it is pressure based?
FlSal27 the PFD speed is indicated airspeed, or the air pressure hitting the pitot tube sensor, all stall speeds are measured in indicated.
A standard question on flight tests is to explain true, calibrated and indicated airspeed.
IAS measures the pressure. In this case the dynamic pressure. It's important cause it basically tells you much lift you have...
@@Matsumoto77 Negative. In all airlines the PFD speed is CAS. IAS is displayed on ISIS.
@@adamhlali8106 Yes, but actually EAS is for lift.

Logically, the passengers should have been refunded some money for the fuel saved on this journey! 5:00
With this logic passengers should pay more if the plane burns more fuel in headwind, LOL. The business doenΒ΄t work like this.
Or charged more. The flight was faster.
