This song is one of my favorite examples of how powerful music and lyrics can be. Each verse tells a story and the chorus reflects Jenny's emotions in a way. Even cooler is how each chorus has (near) identical lyrics but each one carries such a different meaning because of the previous verse and Carrie's inflection. First chorus shows us that Jenny is nervous about being married, the second one shows us that Jenny is ashamed and scared of being beaten, telling herself she'll be okay. By the final chorus, it's a scar. Every time Jenny hears the church bells she's reminded of her pain and telling herself that she'll be okay not only after suffering such debilitating abuse, but also that she'll be okay without him. Really powerful song.
That is an amazing breakdown and really good thought process it’s also the exact reason I love music in my opinion if it doesn’t have a good story the song isn’t for me

This is one of Carrie's best songs --- emotional storyline, clever lyrics, and of course her peerless voice to bring it all home. Music does not get better than this ! Love how the chorus of "Church Bells" actually means something different in each of the three verses -- that is amazing storytelling that does not exist today. This would be a "career" song for any other country artist, but for Carrie its just another great album track - she is that good. Make this single #2 or #3 --- Heartbeat will likely be released first ... bravo

This song means a lot to women who have endured the physical mental and emotional violence from the men they loved. Although I would never condone killing anyone, the church part means so much to me because I leaned heavily on God during my struggles and still do now that I have left.
This song is so amazing, my favorite by far! Carrie's songs have so much meaning and emotion to them that when I listen to them I just get lost in the lyrics and music, it's almost like I'm there! Not many artists can do that these days that's why Carrie is my favorite female solo artist by far!

I'm a domestic battery and hostage survivor, and I put my first ex in prison of course, but this song reminds me so much of me. I grew up with a big old dog. My mom rescued animals and I loved working with my aunt and her after highschool so much in my college years so started up my own rescue in 2021 and now a nonprofit about to go into a partnership with another rescue organization and someone is interested in helping us with our paperwork to go 501c3 down the road. I got my board members and relocation if they approve the partnership. I went to church back than also, so it's a song that hits home in many ways for me personally. I wanted to marry my first ex, but that didn't happen because I wasn't going to be killed for a man in my life, plus I had a dog to think about.
I generally don’t like country music, but there are a few exceptions. This is one them. 10/10 I’m putting this song on replay again.

I know Carrie since she sang Ever Ever After for the Disney movie Enchanted but I had never really heard her songs except 2 or 3. So I finally decided to listen to this album, and it's amazing. I think Carrie Underwood's people made a mistake when they decided to promote some the other songs on this album with music videos, but not this one. I think this is the real hit material.
