I love Carrie Underwood, especially "Southbound"
I loved that whole album...and all of her other ones
I liked that song but then it was wayyyy overplayed
Jus' Sayin I wasn’t particularly fond of Cry Pretty as an album. There were some album cuts that I thought should’ve been singles but the single choices were poor & not promoted well.I just feel like her voice was wasted on sub par songs that nobody will remember years from now.
Theresa Daniels I agree with you!! And I thought I was the only one who wasn’t a huge fan of that album 😅. I know she was going through a lot the year(s) she was making the album and that’s why a lot of the songs were sad or melancholy. But it was almost too sad. And then she promoted the only “happy” upbeat song way too much. The only song I can remember that made a mark for me was Kingdom. All the other ones were sort of meh 😕. And don’t get me wrong. I’m a huge fan of hers!

lisarm100 I thought Ghosts on the Stereo was a song that didn’t get enough credit or love because it sounded more “country” in tone & message.I think Spinning Bottles & The Bullet could’ve been great singles given the lyrics & content of the song & the videos for those two songs could’ve had such powerful,impactful video.Its not that her voice sounds bad on the album because it sounds amazing but the majority of those songs were forgettable because nobody will remember them years from now. I get that she was going through a lot with her accident & her miscarriages which is why the album is so heavy in tone but the album seemed to be missing something that could’ve made it so much better. In my opinion, Love Wins was a horrible choice for a single because it didn’t go into why love wins & how that could be exhibited in every day life. And in my opinion,Love Wins was a poorly written song & we all know Carrie isn’t a lazy songwriter but it just seems like she didn’t even try to put effort into writing that song. And for someone like Carrie who has said herself that she isn’t a party person,Southbound was a REAL stretch for me,it’s a good song for the season it’s meant for but otherwise it’s just not a great song. Southbound just underutilizes her voice so much & it’s another example of lazy songwriting on her part. I just don’t know how she kept a straight face while writing Southbound because that song is so the antithesis of who she is as a person. She said that she came up with the title to the song but I don’t buy that,I just don’t buy it. Drinking Alone is a great song vocally but lyrically it just doesn’t make sense. In order for a song to make sense like Drinking Alone,you need to have a messy personal life & be jilted & cynical about the failed relationship & that song didn’t come off as believable when she is nothing like that character in the song. To me,it came off as a very impersonal & cold album when that wasn’t the intent at all. I love her but that album just seemed “off” to me for some weird reason.I agree she promoted Southbound way too much when I can’t imagine that’s a song she really wanted to write or record. Let there be peace sounds like a return to form for her with the message & the gospel undertones to the song. This is the type of songs I miss her recording because this song seems more authentic & true to who she is as a person & an artist. If it was anyone else doing this song,it wouldn’t sound as authentic or believable but given her faith & how important it is to her,it comes off as authentic & true. I just truly miss the country elements that her first 5 albums had.There’s this one girl I commented to on Facebook & she REALLY seemed to push the idea that Cry Pretty was an album that was worth multiple listens & that it was an amazing album that got ignored by country radio & that it was a great album when it wasn’t even her greatest album by far.I told the girl you don’t have to like every single thing she does,that it’s OK to not like one album she does. I think that there’s a very small minority that weren’t too particularly fond of Cry Pretty as an album. If you even said one thing about Cry Pretty not being a great album on social media,you would get torn one side & down the other because you didn’t agree about the album.The die hard Carrie fans really took offense to me even saying it wasn’t her best album & they were rude & nasty to me for not liking the album.I LOVE Let There be peace because of the message,the lyrics,the gospel undertones & of course her amazing voice. She is so versatile that I could easily see her doing an album full of Christian & gospel songs because she definitely has the voice to carry off gospel songs. Her voice is tailor made for gospel songs because it just seems like a natural fit for her voice.
I've grown up with Carrie and woah... she's only gotten better. I'm personally not religious but.. she is the best Christian artist in my opinion!

I have to say I agree. Hands down she is the best Christian artist I can think of & I’ve listened to A LOT of Christian artists growing up in the church. Her voice is tailor made for the gospel music genre because this song just proves it.
