@dil oreo Well Parasite was a near perfect thriller and original. So I meant obviously there will be pressure on him to keep comjng up with original ideas and near perfect scripts on the level of Parasite or try and beat it now that the whole world not just Hollywood top shots will be closely watching what he does next after that historic game-changing win. I guess it's the same or similar kind of pressure Nolan had after Inception even though it didn't win Best Picture but still. If Tenet doesn't meet people's sky high expectations, the bitching will start. That's a heavy burden for any filmmaker's shoulders. I just hope it doesn't negatively impact his future work that's what I really meant.

America is not the center of the universe, but the Oscars are a worldwide recognition because many people see them, like it or not; for the filmmakers from other countries it´s an opportunity to make the world known that there´s also cinema beyond America. I´m spanish and in my country make movies and be recognized worldwide is complicated (being Almodóvar isn´t easy) and it's great to see a small country like South Korea winning this big award.
Salamandra this is actually a painful day in history. The joker was really deserving of the win, and it made big. Like it or not and this is a fact, Parasite’s win was greatly helped by the fact that it’s a foreign movie, and the lib-tards wanted diversity.
Answer is simply....historically there has been a lack of representation & Canada & USA are country of immigrants but their media historically has not (& in fact) prevented these narratives & representations from occurring...
Also, the movie is BRILLIANT....foreign language or not...

All the previous awards, "the guy" couldn't go on the stage because of spoiler potential but this "guy" finally went up for this grand prize and you could see his emotions and relief by his face expression. Whoever watched the film knows "who" I'm talking about ;)

@Femina Fahmi mid-speech... they weren't done and the oscars turned the lights off to cut them off the audience had to make noise and tell them to turn the lights back on. tom hanks and charlize theron were on camera telling them to turn the lights back on.
Parasites is a very good movie. With all due respect to Bong Joon Ho and Korean cinema. But today, the peak of cinematography is still represented by 1917. An unforgettable creation by Mr Deakins and Mr Mendes, perhaps one of the best movie of all time.
My opinion that all film makers and producers
focus more on human , family and good friendships values than any violent movies .

Honestly I fell asleep trying to watch Irishman which is a shame because of love Scorsese. Joker was also phenomenal. To be honest I really do feel parasite deserved this. I don't even really watch international movies but this one hit different.
Actually Americans are already late on recorgnizing their FILMs and movies...for me Korean Movies and Korean dramas are one of the Best movies Ive seen.(Old Boy, Parasite, The Man from Nowhere, The Host, Train to Busan, Miracle in Cell No. 7,The Masquerade) No wonder many people around the world are addicted in Korean dramas and movies, because their plot are so unpredictable and very unique.

What’s the big deal about it in foreign language? Do people just watch shows in English? That’s missing out on a lot of things. Even if you only know one language, there’s something called subtitles 🤷🏻♀️ Good shows aren’t defined by the language they are in.

Murtaza Rizvi it doesn’t have to be an american production to win the best picture. Last year the spanish film Roma was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Picture. It happens a lot, a foreign language film has just never won before, so Parasite made history

I liked the anime better.
I just saw Parasite to see the hype. It's creepily imaginative but boring and nothing note worthy. No idea why it won. Oscars are useless awards.
I honestly think that the idea of the merits of art having anything to do with race is AS icky as the idea of the merits of art having something to do with money.... and the former seemed to be the theme of this years oscars, and it was truly cringeworthy, unwatchable and embarrassing.
Wow. Rich, famous people patting themselves on the back for making millions and bias signaling on stage to further their career. Entitled and highly privileged people thinking that their money and fame make them think they know what's best for the world and our country.
Although I understand the social criticism of this movie and the class differences, and how the rich see the poor or how the poor see the rich, I think that this movie did not deserve an Oscar. If this movie deserved an Oscar then Woody Allen's “Match Point” deserved 15!!!!

It's the culture from the past. And Chinses and Vietnamese are the largest consumer of dogs. Not South Korean! It's even illegal to breed dogs for foods, and 1/4 of Korean population carries dog as pet (who care about dogs soooo much, that they are called as dogmom or dogpapa)
For once in your life time visit Korea and try to find the dog for food in any supermarket or butcher. They will think you are crazy.
