Bong Joon-ho’s masterfully devious class satire took Hollywood’s top prize at the Oscars Sunday night, along with awards for best director, best international film and best screenplay.
Mr. Bong Joon Ho's humbleness is so heartwarming and inspiring! Notice how he dedicated his speach to honouring his seniours, the other nominated directors. I really admire that man!
Sooo very happy for them!! Well deserved!! I just wish some of the actors/actresses were also nominated because this cast was the most spectacular that I have ever seen in ANY FILM!!!
@@JJ-yu6og definitely. There are so many brilliant actors in foreign films who are completely unknown in the west! (And of course there's a justified reason for this), but it's sad that some people will never get the chance to see them perform. I'm happy that Parasite got so popular

No, this wasn't deserved. Marriage Story, Irishman and Joker were MUCH BETTER. Parasite was just a cringy copy of Tarantino's movies with fucked up ending.
Sooo very happy for Parasite's director!! Well deserved!! I just wish some of the actors/actresses were also nominated because this cast was the most spectacular that I have ever seen in ANY FILM!!!
Mr. Bong made his rival congratulate with a real happy face after his speech. I Think the award speech was perfect. humble, confident, humorous, creative, deserving the true congratulations of his competitors.
This makes me so happy, even though I'm personnaly more of a Marriage Story fan. Parasite deserves everything, Bong deserves everything. Almost makes me forgive the academy for snubbing The Lighthouse and Midsommar.
Renee Zellweger won an Oscar playing Judy Garland that never won any Oscar which she should have except the Juvenile Oscar. What a great tribute to the legend indeed.
you dont need a big budget to make a good movie. Joker and Parasite both have budget under 100M US dollar while no Oscar movies like endgame and star wars have ove 300M US Dollar budget
No wonder why this independent movie has won an Oscar® for two categories: Best Foregin-Language Film and Best Picture. That’s why they have three American independent production companies have won an Oscar® for Best Picture: 1. Spotlight (2015) from Open Road Films 2. Moonlight (2016) from A24 Films 3. Parasite (2019) from Neon Films
It’s not independent movie. Bong has been directing big movies over 20 years in Korea and have been being suggested by Hollywood for long time which he has been rejected.
Hershy Spotlight. Birdman. Shape Of Water. Moonlight. The Best Picture category has been awarding great films since 2014. (We do NOT talk about Green Book here)
I bet Martin Scorsese would have liked the win but I feel like Boon Joon Ho’s win and mention of him in his speech means more. This is concrete, history making proof that he is leaving a legendary legacy behind with his work. And I think you can tell that he realizes that by the look on his face.
Extremely well-deserved. No, they didn't win because the Oscars wanted to showcase diversity. They won because Parasite was the BEST movie of the year despite heavy competition.
The movie is about inequality which is an universal issue. But, as a Korean, I believe that the inequality in S. Korea feels much intensified because of unique social issues in S. Korea (degree inflation, competitive culture, etc); partially described in the movie. The book called “South Korea: Price of Efficiency & Success” is great to read about the reality in South Korea.
Yaaay! Bong Joon-Ho was my absolute favorite director for like 10 years and I was waiting and waiting for him to be recognized as the best director in the world! Freaking great year for cinema!!
Lydia Martin just pull his name up “ “Bong Joon Ho Oscar Speeches”. I saw recap on KRplus last night! Wanted to relive it after I watched three Broadcasts. So happy for him!!! 🏆🏆🏆🏆🎬🎥🎭
Everyone talking about Parasite's "triumph" but it was the Oscars "triumph" imo to finally look past language or nationality to vote for the best movie they watched that year, that's the real milestone. Parasite has its own value, it doesn't need the Oscars to validate its mastery, the Oscars needed Parasite to prove they really care about the movies (and not just about patting each other's back).
Bong joon ho is a great person the father of the actor who played the roll of the housekeepers husband was a huge fan of director bong and the actor song gang ho but unfortunately he had to go through alot because of lung cancer when director bong found out he showed the movie first to him even though it was before the preview of the flim sadly the father of the actor has almost gone blind now but he was greatful that he could have able to watch bong's flim before he's a great director and a great person too
He’s come a long way for this well-deserving award! I remember watching Barking Dogs Never Bite for the first time when I was in middle school and have been obsessed with his work ever since. All of them from Memories of Murder, The Host, Mother, Okja, Snowpiercer, and now PARASITE?? Absolute genius!!!
I can't wait to see what the next 5-10 years in cinema will be like thanks to this glorious win! I'm sure the cinema will become much more diverse and we'll see many different tastes rather than just one predominately american one. It will be a great decade in cinema!
To be honest, Oscar was a local film festival. But tonight it was reborn as an authoritative international film festival.
