Residents in the Balboa Peninsula were left reeling Saturday morning after high tide and high surf caused massive flooding in their community. Joy Benedict reports.
What a nightmare! Those people will never get on a sailboat for the rest of their lives after this. They witnessed the true power and force of nature in the sea. We are like ants!
This is just half a portion of what happened to boats some where completely demolished with people jumping off in the ocean some boats went all the way into store shopping areas that's why you can't trust the news they work for Newport beach they don't want people to be scared to come back Newport beach was my favorite beach to go to and I garuntee I will not be going back something similar to this happened and 2011 but now its getting worse that part of land is probably sinking

My parents had a beach house on the ocean side of the peninsula. Back in the 1970's, we put sandbag barriers to help save the ground floor of our house. We we lucky that it worked. I hope the current owners fared as well as we did. There was a photo in the paper of a guy paddling a kayak past our house on Balboa Boulevard.
And that first "lady" they interviewed was all giddy and laughing. Geez, why do they always pick people like that? It isn't funny, it's a damned tragedy!

I was there on the sand and boom a huge wave hit me and all my friends, wet phones, wet speaker, wet skateboards lol so we retreated to the parking lot but the waves kept following, ultimately kicking us out of the beach.
The bay is only a couple of blocks away, during the King tide the water can go over the bulkheads, I was there when the water was up 1 rung of sand bags and they were desperate to get the second rung up, no easy task. Then they had a stationary rain storm filling up the Balboa Island from the inside.
Back in the day, my family had a vacation beach house on the peninsula, just down from the Balboa Yacht Club, on the ocean side. My dad grabbed me, my sisters, and loaded us in the car, so we could rush down there from our home in Sierra Madre, to sandbag the house, because of the same thing. I recall seeing a photo in the newspaper of some guy paddling his canoe past our house!
Out of no where this happen without any alert, i know that the flood was minor but when is huge like a tsunami the sirens are activate, this is an example that the earth is changing alot.
Has nothing to do with that , has everything to do with higher water levels . Looks like global warming is a real thing. . If it was from “erasing “ it would have happened long ago and would be a continuous problem . It’s the water level which changes yearly . Just ask Italy .

My grandfather was an engineer in the 40s and 50s. He had an opportunity to get beach property in that area and refused. We jokingly refer to it as a missed opportunity considering how much the land is worth now. BUT his engineer logic was not understanding why anyone would want live there since it's just... not feasible to him. Seeing this made me lol because his point was made. He may have missed out on a huge return, but his missed opportunity was vindicated.
