Right from the fact he has passed almost nothing meaningful in Congress in 40 years to the fact he thinks everyone from Vermont has a 600,000 “summer camp” to the fact that he is promising all these free stuff with ZERO idea of how to pay for them.. oh don’t forget at least Castro had a good literacy plan which seems very relevant in comparison to how many dissidents he killed

@@shaunlee8425 Tax the rich is the idea how to pay for it. To get that done is difficult, but its possible. Bernie builds a mass movement; his strategy is to use the inside of the system and a mass movement outside to pressure it. That is a good strategy in my opinion.
What is this thing about Castro again? Bernie condemned the bad parts about his government. You are just forcing this point, its laughable. Which Cuban government was better, which worked better for the people of Cuba - the Castro government or the government before, the Batista government? There is only one true answer here. Viva Fidel! Is what the people of Cuba said about the man whose revolution brought healthcare and education to every Cuban citizen. Was it the perfect political system? No. So what. Bernie is right, TRUTH IS TRUTH. The good parts of the Cuban government are not cancelled by the bad parts. And the bad parts are not cancelled by the good parts.
The part about Bernie should invidiually pay more taxes or do charity is laughable as well. When one rich person does that it means NOTHING. If you think one single millionaire should do that, then thats dellusional. It won't help anyone. You need higher taxes for the rich; FOR ALL millionaires and billionaires. Not for ONE, but for ALL of them. Otherwise its a stupid policy that won't change anything.
And yes, Bernie is the working class champion here, I am sorry but its true. Who else wants to strengthen unions in such a way as Bernie wants? Who else wants to give universal healthcare on top of that? I am sorry, but these are OBJECTIVELY the best policies for the working class.

As an author myself and a socialist, I would be delighted if my books earned me a million dollars. Socialism is about democracy in the workplace, so we all have a say in our roles, our pay structures, our working lives. It's not the same as being a Jesuit priest who vows poverty.
From what I've learned about Bernie over the years is that he's extremely charitable. He has dedicated tons of his time and much of his earnings to improving the lives of his community. That's pretty awesome.

He IS advocating for medicare for all. Meaning you would get a medicare card that allows you to access medical care at almost any medical establishment and not pay out of pocket. @Whatever the kind of leader that has been consistent for 40 years, that PLAYS THE LONG GAME. That knows it is not about the one lost (or even won !) race. Ran for higher office in the 1970s against the Vietnam war, and left economic policies and against regime change (with a small Independent left party) The candidates of that party were lucky when they got 4 % of the vote. Seemed to be a waste of time then.
In 1981 he won the race of mayor with 10 more votes (that was a stunning upset). He was 40 then, this was the first well paid job with benefits he had. he was not overly worried about being low income in his thriteis and late twenties , but I guess things change if you are middle age. Well he did a good job, so he could keep his post as mayor. There certainly was an incentive to now do things the "establishment" way: getting friendlier with the state party with large donors, ral estate developers, ...
He won the next race 2 years later. That was very competitive, but he won with a wide margin and very much increased turnout. Even though the aldermen (many were buddies of the ousted mayor which had been a big name in the VT Democratic party) had blocked him at the beginning.
He did not even have the veto power until the next election of the council members gave him a few more that were not hostile. So he could not even use the full 2 years as he would have liked to.
He got good grades by the voters in every office he held - he stubbornly insisted on finaning campaigns NOT like others did (chasing dollars). When he was in Congress aspiring lobbyists were told not to bother contacting him, it was a waste of time.
THAT kind of politician would be unfazed by the rigged race of 2016 and continue to keep the eyes on the prize. In spring 2015 Ed Schultz had a camera team in Burlington to cover live the announcement of Sanders that he would run for office. After that they planned to air a prerecorded short intervew. Ed was orderend 5 minutes before start to stand down.
Ed's theory: "observers" had informed the Clinton machine that a major network planned more than to mention his announcement in passing. It was a fine day, respectable crowd of 2,000 or 3,000.
The Clinton campaign phoned Phil Griffin boss of MSNBC that they did not want Sanders to get that kind of coverage.
Mind you: no one expected Sanders to have a chance (incl. Sanders, they had initially planned with 30 millions in small donations). But Clinton had an "early state trauma" after 2008, especially because of the sensational win of Obama in Iowa. And the Clinton campaign assumed Sanders _could_ do fairly well in Iowa and New Hampshire. - Nothing screams "strong inevitable candidate" like having to tip the scales against a complete outsider like Sanders right in the beginning.
Sanders KNEW from the start that they would play dirty, when Ed did NOT cover live after they had coordinated to go live at 5 pm. Sanders did not whine about it, he and his campaign never mentioned it. We only know that because Ed Schultz told the story approx 6 months before he died.
Sanders wanted to discuss issues like healthcare, student debt, regulation of banks - and he used the platform the primaries gave him.
Ed Schultz does not "know" that Griffin was told by the Clinton machine to stop coverage of the small outsider campaign. Ed's description was: they are joined at the hip. - He had a well founded suspicion. Griffin did not give him any reason, there was a heated exchange on the phone - the team was in Burlington after all. Ed Schultz was ordered to cover some nonsense and a press conference of the day before that was more relevant but had gotten plenty of coverage already. So obviously this was not the kind of news to justify aborting costly on the ground live reporting.
After the shock of the lost presidential race the DNC appointed the Independent (Sanders had returned to that status immediately after the convention) to be Outreach for the Democratic party. THAT suited him best (a position in the party hierarchy does not help you to leverage power when you are not an "insider"). The DNC salivated over his maillist, they wanted to get to his supporters - and likely thought they could use Sanders as figurehead.
He got better media coverage after the lost Nov. election than when he was a candidate.
He used that better access to airtime VERY well. Whatever the issue of an interview was - he always brought up HEALTHCARE as well. the hosts knew his shtick and resigned themselves to it. I wonder if they could have interviewed him on a recipe for potato salad and he still would have found away to bring up healthcare.
Excellent marketing ! the "broken record" strategy. Repeating a message over and over.
He toured the country with townhalls. Meanwhile HRC was in the woods, tending her bruised ego, and had meetings with her ghostwriters to get her book (Everybody's Fault But Mine) ready for sales.
Sanders and allies learned from the 2015 and 2016 campaign, this time they were not afraid the small donations would dry up, they dared to invest in staff and groundgame from the start. They do a lot of things differently. Incl. hiring a lot of staff out of communities. Who then leverage the MANY volunteers. They have an app that helps volunteers to activate the peole they have "recruited" to turn out (they get text reminders).
In NV it was important to fill in all 3 choices on the ranked choice ballot used for early voting or the ballot was not valid. Early voting was a new offer.
The state party had not communicted that very well and of course next time people will be more used to it. 3 % of ballots were invalid - but when all campaigns learned of that problem, but the Sanders campaign could reach many of their supporters and volunteers and tell them. Early voting took long there were weiting lines, so if a critical mass of voterd know the information spreads.
Sanders can build on name recognition so this time he has a chance with the black community, with Latinos.
In 2015 and early 2016 they built the plane while it rolled on the tarmac for take-off.

And of course everyone would KNOW it was HIS mistake that Trump is in office. No - Hillary had to lose on her own (quite an accomplishment) and he often gets blame for her loss anyway. Did 39 rallies for her (only Bill and chelsea did more for her), she did 12 for Obama in 2008. No good deed remains unpunished.

The whole Cuba question is a smear tactic. Bernie was just trying to be balanced in his assessment of Cuba. He's not in any way advocating a Cuba-like government. Just about the only things that Castro did right was improve literacy and health care for the poor in Cuba. Actually Castro was originally more of a Fascist than a communist. He owned the complete works of Mussolini and modeled his speeches after Hitler whereas Batista who he overthrew allowed communists in his government. Communism was not a driving force behind Castro's uprising in 1959. Castro did not declare himself a communist until 1961 when he stated publicly that he was a Marxist-Leninist. This statement was to strengthen Cuba's diplomatic relations with the Soviet Union and led to an increasingly strained relationship with the United States.

If you're worried about income tax, focus on getting higher wages, so that a higher income tax won't hurt so much. A 7.5% income tax increase should not break the bank as a matter of principle. Our system is fundamentally broken and unfair when that is the case, when so many of us are living paycheck to paycheck. Earnings really need to be brought back in line with costs of living. The establishment makes a huge point of and does a very good job at ensuring people are focused on non-issues that divide the majority of us, when realistically ALL of Bernie Sanders’ planned changes benefit those of us who aren’t multimillionaires.
Based solely on the fact that he’s trying to remove lobbying and pay-to-play from politics, he should have all of our votes. But instead we hear stories about how he likes one thing Fidel Castro did and how he went to Russia on his honeymoon, complete non-issues which have nothing to do with whether or not he will be able to be an effective president.

I agree with you, but arguing with idiots is like wrestling in mud with pigs. You get dirty, and the pig likes it.
I only honor reasonably worded opposition with the same.
When I comment something neutral or logical, half the time than not, I get commenters telling me such things as I’m a liberal imbecile who needs to have an abortion(!?), that I’m an emotional, vapid little millenial, and a long list of other such gems.
Look, if someone’s is going to post a ridiculous jab, they’ll get the same from me. Fair is fair 😁
I know Bernie would be disappointed in me, but it’s tough out here.
I was never, ever a hater. I may not agree, but I respect that Trump is President, because the American people voted him in and I respect the decision of the majority. But when they come for me for my respectfully worded views, well - like Trump says - grab them by the _ _ _ _ _ because that’s exactly what they are. Grown men attacking young people will get no respect from me.

tonicmix and another thing - you’re giving undeserved credit to a majority of the opposition- that my responding with facts and logic would engender actual thought and reflection in them.
