Jan 31, 2024 just watching this and related videos from those first years fully & properly and am in awe of RMs gut wrenching honesty, self-deprecation, & deep insight in addition to his compassion for the underdog. A good human being. So rare in the circumstances they were in and at such a young age.
I've been an ARMY since BulletProof era and I've seen this when this came out and when the group was going through lot. Namjoon, the rapper and lyricist, was actually the reason why I decided to be an ARMY. I heard his song "Too Much" and I thought to myself, "If the leader of this group could write this kind of song, then I'm going to support this group as much as I could forever". Back then, no matter how hard it is to reach million views, ARMYs still try to do so. I became an ARMY partly because I wanted to eradicate this kind of stigma towards idol groups. That BTS is a KPOP group but they write their own song and their not just puppets. I wanted to support them because they deserve to be heard. I wanted to support them because they are the voice of the minority. And watching this again now makes me so proud. I'm proud of the boys and ARMY who went through a lot but continued to persevere. Indeed the group and the fandom breaks a lot of prejudice and records.

I can’t believe after 7 years I found this. Honestly after watching this, 1 huge thing stood out and that is how different/mature he is compared to the so called rappers in this episode. They are so clouded by this fake image of what they think hip hop is or should be. I liked the Japanese rapper guy and how he said hip hop is about telling your story. It’s not about being tough or having swag. Supreme boi really is the biggest joke of all. Talking about namjoon being an idol when he thirsts to write for a bts or txt album now that they succeeded. Not to mention he talks about namjoons rapstyle being mediocre meanwhile he writes about raping women in his lyrics. As for the other guys making fun of him for such trivial things like his looks shows how shallow and immature they are. I admire that namjoon said he chose the idol route because he just wanted his voice to be heard and if he was doing it alone as a rapper then he wouldn’t get that same energy from the audience. Also it’s amazing how highly bts think of namjoon compared to his other “friends.” Anyways I’m getting too heated. I’ll leave it at this, there’s a reason why namjoon or bts in general succeeded and those assholes didn’t. It’s all in their perspectives.

I’m watching it now and I was looking for a comment like this , i think exactly the same . I feel like namjoon was so pressured then and he also wanted to be a rapper not an “idol rapper” because he wanted to be with his other friends so bad. At the end, I understand him, because when he first started working in big hit, he knew them and hung out with them , he was supposed to debute in a rap group because that’s what he wanted. buttt, let me say, he chose the right path and now he’s with the biggest boy band of all the world

I can’t imagine the turmoil that Namjoon and Yoongi went through during this time. Not only did they have to deal with the degrading comments of other rappers, but they themselves probably had conflicting thoughts about staying in BTS once they realized they it wouldn’t be a hip hop group anymore. Namjoon and yoongi in multiple songs talk about how they tried so hard to deny being an Idol due to the preconceived notion behind it (industrialized, fake). While I’m sure it’s true to a point, and the boys realized this too, they had to not only convince themselves but everyone else that they’d be different. So I commend them and BTS for their perseverance, and I’ll be a fan until the end.
This made me sooo proud of you, Kim Namjoon. What you went through wasn’t easy at all but thank you for not giving up. Started from the bottom now you’re here. You reap what you sow that’s why you deserve all the happiness in this world. You redefined what being “idol” means. Your voice has reached millions of people. You did well. The Japanese rapper is cool and honest. The others need to watch this again and rethink their comments and themselves. Instead of uplifting someone, you bring them down. Kim Nam Joon is a real guy - he shows himself, warts and all. Nothing fake about him. Bless him and BTS. RESPECT!

I've never truly watched this whole ep before, its always the hidden camera part only. It feels so nostalgic seeing bts fetus faces. It's an eye-opener on how tough namjoon must have felt with the criticisms and him confused over his identity as an idol or rapper. There were multiple times he mentioned it in his mixtapes and raps but now, i feel he has grown from it and i feel it doesn't bother him as much anymore. He really proved himself and I'm proud of him
Watching this after today's release of RM's intro for Map of The Soul: Persona. There are so many connections with the lyrics and what he said in this video. RM has really grown to accept his many selves as we all have. Everybody has different faces they wear, it's just a matter of accepting the reality and thriving in it.

True, but it is a part of Namjoon's life journey which makes his name BIG. i11evn said many hurt things about Namjoon's music and identity, though some of them are right. Especially suggesting Namjoon to show his identity between being an idol or underground rapper which shown on 'Idol'. I believe Namjoon already left this story behind and move forward with his six members to break the rules on world music industry.
Honestly?? The people from his old life and "underground" didn't know anything about him. They made fun of his clothes, his personality, his looks, his brains, everything. It seems to me they were (and possibly still are) so caught up in themselves and the persona that they had to maintain in being a "hip-hop rapper" that they weren't paying attention to the change of style and music itself. Namjoon realized it was never about these things, it was expressing himself and who he is not what brand to wear, how you look, or how gangster you act. Not my bias but aren't we all biased by RM's mind thoughts,smartness, humanity, humbleness. To me RM is the heart of BTS. They all are important and each and every one of them brings so many things to the identity of the group, but I believe that maybe more than anyone of them without Namjoon there is no BTS. I am always so impressed by this exceptional young man. Plus when I saw this I felt so sentimental and proud of all the love from his members. They are the ones who really understood him from the start, the real him without the cliches and his rappers "friends" whom he knew from way before were concerned by being " cool hip hop style" even if it is by not being kind and thoughtful with their words towards him. I really felt bad for him. And this made more and more convinced that they ( BTS) really found each other. The love, respect, understanding and trust they share is one of the many many things that make them this one in a life time group.

As if I needed any more reason to love Namjoon more! I am not one to say that he is perfect, as nobody is, but rather he is someone admirable for all the good qualities and the talent he has. At a young age he already knew what he wanted to become and what he wanted to do with his music, and decided that becoming part of BTS was the path. Bang PD instinctively knew there was something very special in that kid he met. Without Namjoon, that opportunity to create BTS would have turned out to be something else. You are loved by many, Namjoon! Everyone should watch this episode.
love how you said he is not perfect but someone with food qualities because that is indeed one of the things that makes him inspiring and the Kim Namjoon that we know him as today. He's never shied away from his mistakes and he acknowleges them and grows into a better person. And that takes a lot of courage, empathy and responsibility. And that's why I love Namjoon so much, because of how human and true he is rather than choosing to present a phony side to the world. After the book came out (which led me here) and with how things are progressing in the bts world, I admire his sincerity more and more everyday. He has little shining bits in his personality that sparkle the more you start loving him. He's a lovely person to love honestly.

I finally found the full version of this episode, I have only seen short clips before. This is such an honest episode, you can tell that RM is genuine, he knows what he wants and works towards making it a reality. I only have respect for him and he deserves all the success he is enjoying now.

The fact that Hybe let their idols go on the show and express their own thoughts, even soundingly rebellious ones as idols ("There's no need to have rules for idols" or "Idols should be treated like normal people") is insane. Bang PD said he wants to make a positive impact on this idol industry and he was damn serious. We once see historical idol groups like DBSK and Super Junior split up due to management issues, but BTS and Hybe broke the curse by extending their contract just purely proved how healthy the relationship between them is. They made a legend from kindness!

I’m really glad I watched this. It made me respect bang pd even more, like he’s so self aware. He understands suga and rm’s struggles, admitted that “idols were moving along like baggage”, but most of all he is an artist himself. He is a businessman who is trying to do his best, but he’s also an artist who wants these boys to create for themselves whilst guiding them along. He seems very supportive of their wishes and art and I think that’s why bts have done SO WELL. The idol industry can be a cut cut, copy and paste and they decided to do something a bit different: true artistry. I think he made such a great decision with choosing suga and rm, because they were already artists before they joined bangtan. They were able to foster that way of thinking in the other members, and we stand here today with SEVEN TRUE artists. It’s honestly incredible. That passion, drive and love that they have for music has rubbed off on each other and they are able to create some great work because of it. Yes they are idols, but they arn’t completely cookie cutter do as they are told, sing what they’ve been given idols. They’ve brought in a sense of legitimacy.
I belive I heard that PD Bang wanted to run an agency that stopped the bad super controlling treatment of idols (and rappers). It proves he is an artist first more than a businessman. I think he had something to prove within his industry and strive to fix it thru example. Very admirable to possibly fail while taking that on. Hats off to him for improving young peoples lives!

maybe I'm reading into it a bit too much but the difference in what the guys and Bang PD had to say about RM being fooled and Mon's underground 'friends' is such a contrast... idk if it is that they see him as a younger one that they are so casual about it but really I feel like I can see where the respect is and where it isn't. The fact that Joon was laughig in embarrassment when he exclaimed he liked wearing blue or walking around, even tho that's just him being himself, my heart aches for that young boy who couldn't feel comfortable to express himself or even if he did through his songs then he'd be criticized. Even so I am glad he did this so it could give him a little catharsis during all those times he was criticized for every little thing. And that fan interaction was so cute too. He's such a loveable boy who deserves all the softness and respect that he gives to those around him. The negative comments in turn show more how Joon is the resilient strong one rather than all those passive aggressive petty people. I am glad to see he is where he deserves to be now and has people who support his back.

I don't know if it was for real or just banter among buddies because he seemed to be the youngest or with less experience among his underground friends...but after watching this video I have reached the conclusion that according to his so called friends in order to be a true hip hop artist you need to be: - Ugly (apparently you can't be handsome and a rapper according to these people) -Rap about raping women - Convicted of drug charges -Beat the hell out of your gf/wife -Miserable (because 'being surrounded by joy' it's a problem it seems) Well, thank god he became an idol then. I'm in no way questioning these guys talent because to be honest I had barely heard of them except for Supreme Boi (who had so much to say but still produces for BTS.... guess you have to pay the bills at the end of the day) but I rather have Namjoon speaking to today's generations and being a model for positivity, self love and perseverance.... it's really special to me that Namjoon grew out of the social circle he was in, and he got to know the bts members. you can clearly see the difference between the way "underground" rappers and bangtan members expressed about him.

Jan 31, 2024 just watching this and related videos from those first years fully & properly and am in awe of RMs gut wrenching honesty, self-deprecation, & deep insight in addition to his compassion for the underdog. A good human being. So rare in the circumstances they were in and at such a young age.
I've been an ARMY since BulletProof era and I've seen this when this came out and when the group was going through lot. Namjoon, the rapper and lyricist, was actually the reason why I decided to be an ARMY. I heard his song "Too Much" and I thought to myself, "If the leader of this group could write this kind of song, then I'm going to support this group as much as I could forever". Back then, no matter how hard it is to reach million views, ARMYs still try to do so. I became an ARMY partly because I wanted to eradicate this kind of stigma towards idol groups. That BTS is a KPOP group but they write their own song and their not just puppets. I wanted to support them because they deserve to be heard. I wanted to support them because they are the voice of the minority. And watching this again now makes me so proud. I'm proud of the boys and ARMY who went through a lot but continued to persevere. Indeed the group and the fandom breaks a lot of prejudice and records.

I can’t believe after 7 years I found this. Honestly after watching this, 1 huge thing stood out and that is how different/mature he is compared to the so called rappers in this episode. They are so clouded by this fake image of what they think hip hop is or should be. I liked the Japanese rapper guy and how he said hip hop is about telling your story. It’s not about being tough or having swag. Supreme boi really is the biggest joke of all. Talking about namjoon being an idol when he thirsts to write for a bts or txt album now that they succeeded. Not to mention he talks about namjoons rapstyle being mediocre meanwhile he writes about raping women in his lyrics. As for the other guys making fun of him for such trivial things like his looks shows how shallow and immature they are. I admire that namjoon said he chose the idol route because he just wanted his voice to be heard and if he was doing it alone as a rapper then he wouldn’t get that same energy from the audience. Also it’s amazing how highly bts think of namjoon compared to his other “friends.” Anyways I’m getting too heated. I’ll leave it at this, there’s a reason why namjoon or bts in general succeeded and those assholes didn’t. It’s all in their perspectives.

I can’t imagine the turmoil that Namjoon and Yoongi went through during this time. Not only did they have to deal with the degrading comments of other rappers, but they themselves probably had conflicting thoughts about staying in BTS once they realized they it wouldn’t be a hip hop group anymore.
Namjoon and yoongi in multiple songs talk about how they tried so hard to deny being an Idol due to the preconceived notion behind it (industrialized, fake). While I’m sure it’s true to a point, and the boys realized this too, they had to not only convince themselves but everyone else that they’d be different. So I commend them and BTS for their perseverance, and I’ll be a fan until the end.
This made me sooo proud of you, Kim Namjoon. What you went through wasn’t easy at all but thank you for not giving up. Started from the bottom now you’re here. You reap what you sow that’s why you deserve all the happiness in this world. You redefined what being “idol” means. Your voice has reached millions of people. You did well. Not my bias but aren't we all biased by RM's mind thoughts,smartness, humanity, humbleness. To me RM is the heart of BTS. They all are important and each and every one of them brings so many things to the identity of the group, but I believe that maybe more than anyone of them without Namjoon there is no BTS. I am always so impressed by this exceptional young man. Plus when I saw this I felt so sentimental and proud of all the love from his members. They are the ones who really understood him from the start, the real him without the cliches and his rappers "friends" whom he knew from way before were concerned by being " cool hip hop style" even if it is by not being kind and thoughtful with their words towards him. I really felt bad for him. And this made more and more convinced that they ( BTS) really found each other. The love, respect, understanding and trust they share is one of the many many things that make them this one in a life time group.

As if I needed any more reason to love Namjoon more! I am not one to say that he is perfect, as nobody is, but rather he is someone admirable for all the good qualities and the talent he has. At a young age he already knew what he wanted to become and what he wanted to do with his music, and decided that becoming part of BTS was the path. Bang PD instinctively knew there was something very special in that kid he met. Without Namjoon, that opportunity to create BTS would have turned out to be something else. You are loved by many, Namjoon! Everyone should watch this episode.

love how you said he is not perfect but someone with food qualities because that is indeed one of the things that makes him inspiring and the Kim Namjoon that we know him as today. He's never shied away from his mistakes and he acknowleges them and grows into a better person. And that takes a lot of courage, empathy and responsibility. And that's why I love Namjoon so much, because of how human and true he is rather than choosing to present a phony side to the world. After the book came out (which led me here) and with how things are progressing in the bts world, I admire his sincerity more and more everyday. He has little shining bits in his personality that sparkle the more you start loving him. He's a lovely person to love honestly.

I finally found the full version of this episode, I have only seen short clips before. This is such an honest episode, you can tell that RM is genuine, he knows what he wants and works towards making it a reality. I only have respect for him and he deserves all the success he is enjoying now.

The fact that Hybe let their idols go on the show and express their own thoughts, even soundingly rebellious ones as idols ("There's no need to have rules for idols" or "Idols should be treated like normal people") is insane. Bang PD said he wants to make a positive impact on this idol industry and he was damn serious.
We once see historical idol groups like DBSK and Super Junior split up due to management issues, but BTS and Hybe broke the curse by extending their contract just purely proved how healthy the relationship between them is. They made a legend from kindness!

I’m really glad I watched this. It made me respect bang pd even more, like he’s so self aware. He understands suga and rm’s struggles, admitted that “idols were moving along like baggage”, but most of all he is an artist himself. He is a businessman who is trying to do his best, but he’s also an artist who wants these boys to create for themselves whilst guiding them along. He seems very supportive of their wishes and art and I think that’s why bts have done SO WELL. The idol industry can be a cut cut, copy and paste and they decided to do something a bit different: true artistry. I think he made such a great decision with choosing suga and rm, because they were already artists before they joined bangtan. They were able to foster that way of thinking in the other members, and we stand here today with SEVEN TRUE artists. It’s honestly incredible. That passion, drive and love that they have for music has rubbed off on each other and they are able to create some great work because of it. Yes they are idols, but they arn’t completely cookie cutter do as they are told, sing what they’ve been given idols. They’ve brought in a sense of legitimacy.
I belive I heard that PD Bang wanted to run an agency that stopped the bad super controlling treatment of idols (and rappers). It proves he is an artist first more than a businessman. I think he had something to prove within his industry and strive to fix it thru example. Very admirable to possibly fail while taking that on. Hats off to him for improving young peoples lives!

maybe I'm reading into it a bit too much but the difference in what the guys and Bang PD had to say about RM being fooled and Mon's underground 'friends' is such a contrast... idk if it is that they see him as a younger one that they are so casual about it but really I feel like I can see where the respect is and where it isn't. The fact that Joon was laughig in embarrassment when he exclaimed he liked wearing blue or walking around, even tho that's just him being himself, my heart aches for that young boy who couldn't feel comfortable to express himself or even if he did through his songs then he'd be criticized. Even so I am glad he did this so it could give him a little catharsis during all those times he was criticized for every little thing. And that fan interaction was so cute too. He's such a loveable boy who deserves all the softness and respect that he gives to those around him. The negative comments in turn show more how Joon is the resilient strong one rather than all those passive aggressive petty people. I am glad to see he is where he deserves to be now and has people who support his back.

I don't know if it was for real or just banter among buddies because he seemed to be the youngest or with less experience among his underground friends...but after watching this video I have reached the conclusion that according to his so called friends in order to be a true hip hop artist you need to be:
- Ugly (apparently you can't be handsome and a rapper according to these people)
-Rap about raping women
- Convicted of drug charges
-Beat the hell out of your gf/wife
-Miserable (because 'being surrounded by joy' it's a problem it seems)
Well, thank god he became an idol then.
I'm in no way questioning these guys talent because to be honest I had barely heard of them except for Supreme Boi (who had so much to say but still produces for BTS.... guess you have to pay the bills at the end of the day) but I rather have Namjoon speaking to today's generations and being a model for positivity, self love and perseverance.... Its really hard being a leader. At the young age of 19 Namjoon become responsible for the entire bts members. He took care of them. Supported the entire team letting aside his own worries.He worked hard without any sleep or rest.His hardwork really paid off.
