Just after I passed out of basic back in 96 I was waiting for my trade training to begin and one morning our sergeant asked for volunteers to be enemy, number one rule is never volunteer for anything, especially enemy, as expected nobody volunteered. Someone asked who we were to be enemy for, if it’s the Paras you want nothing to do with it, and reply came back ‘I can’t tell you who but I can tell you where’ you will be spending a week at RAF Hereford’ I immediately put my hand up and volunteered, my mate next to be looked at me like I’d gone mad, I turned to him and said ‘that’ll be 22SAS’ he put his hand up straight away.
Best few days of my early army career being involved in SAS training, either being hostages on a train that they then stormed or a crowd trying to attack a VIP, lots of fun. Didn’t make me want to join but my mate did end up joining another sneaky beaky unit who I won’t name on here.

What a nice guy. I know he had a hard time in Iraq but he remained the committed professional he is throughout. The US Army guy that Colin mentioned was Col Charles Beckwith who did an exchange with the SAS in Malaya before going on to command a US special forces unit in Vietnam and developing the delta force (1st Special Forces Operational Detachment Delta). What I find interesting about the UK SF (and similarly key elements of the commando and P coy Parachute courses) is that the special forces selection process has remained relatively unchanged for over 50 years. The continuation and follow up training regime itself has no doubt adapted and changed but the selection process is a proven model and still remains relevant today.

LOL If Delta Force were 'modelled' after "SAS", then they would be just as useless. The Delta Force is way more advanced, experienced, and skilled than the very low capability "SAS". The "SAS" would be more a comparable to a US Army infantry platoon that goes on long slow hikes and often needs a ride from a big heavy transport helicopter, the "SAS" and "SBS" are several decades behind the level at which the Delta Force and US Navy SEALs are operating. Even their own testimonies written by members of SAS and SBS such as "Cowardo Two Zero" by Dandy McNabb and "Bloody Queeros" by Simian Lewis provide evidence to laughably primitive their weapons and equipment and glaringly incompetent their operating methods are, they are a disgrace to NATO and best used as decoys, while the Americans do the real work.

In the US, Tier 1 refers,to Special Operations units directly under JSOC while Tier 2 refers to Special Operations units under primary control of their particular service. Tier 2 units are lethal and still highly elite. For example Seal Team 6 is Tier 1 and US Navy Seals are Tier 2. In the UKSF. 22 SAS and SBS are considered Tier 1 due to being direct action. For example 18(UKSF) Signal is Tier 2.

    • @dallasyap3064
      @dallasyap3064 3 년 전

U are right except that tier 2 units is not under their respective service control. Tier 2 units like Navy SEALs, Army Rangers, Green Berets etc, they are under USSOCOM, the umbrella command for all special operations forces, even JSOC is a sub-command of USSOCOM, but for tier 1. So, tier 2 units are actually under USSOCOM and not their respective services. They are administratively supported by their own service's special operations command like the Army SOF are administratively supported by United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC), Navy SOF are administratively supported by Naval Special Warfare Command (NSWC), Air Force SOF by Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), Marine Corps SOF by Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC), but their operational control is under USSOCOM.

Yes a lot of paras go for SAS but also a lot of the paras fail too because they are inclined to have an aggressive and heavy handed approach as appose to the thinking soldier than the sas require and want. The DS in the sas won't stand and scream at you to motivate you like the paras do. That's where a lot of people come unstuck when they have to push on with no one else around them to motivate them. Half of the sas selection is a mental aspect which other regiments don't teach you. You can be fittest man in the world but if your head isn't in the right place you will be binned regardless

My Grandfather Major George I.A Duncan was a founding member of Britain’s Special Forces in North Africa alongside Sterling and Paddy Maine to name just a couple. He went on to win the Military Cross twice, called a Military Cross and Bar and was given it by the king when he got home. He was responsible for successful missions on Sicily, Greece and Crete. He and his men destroyed airfields and planes, fuel and ammunition dumps and all communication equipment. They didn’t take prisoners, literally. They weren’t equipped to, so if you were on a base they raided you either got your throat slit or died fighting or you hid. He was eventually taken prisoner but managed to escape from every prison he was put in. Once he and a friend dressed up like Italian officers and just walked out of the front gate. He was a warrior and a lesser known war poet. He had articles printed in national newspapers and wrote for a magazine published in his local area. He became a Boy Scouts leader and many of the kids and young men that came and joined his troop from deprived backgrounds went on to serve their country as soldiers, Paras, Marines and Special Forces. He was an amazing man. He didn’t even have to go to war because he was a farmer, a protected career. He joined up because he believed he had to do his part to thwart the Nazi and Fascist threat to his country. He originally trained as a Blackwatch commando and then in North Africa joined the Long Range Patrol Group which he and others turned into the SBS and SAS. The men of the SBS originally wanted their motto to be “baffle them with bullshit”, but that became “By strength and guile”.

To join delta or SFOD-D the only requirement is you be employed by DoD: any branch or a janitor at DIA. To join devgru the process is far more difficult. Step #1: join navy - Step#2: Get prebuds order 4month step#3: 6 month buds step4: 6month seal qual training. Step5: go on 1-3 deployments as a regular vanilla team navy seal. If you survive that. Step5: convince your command to let you apply for green team / 9 month selection assessment & training. #6: attend 9month green team. All 9 month is considered selection and assessment unlike buds. It’s actually mixed threw from day 1. 6 blocks. 85-95% of navy seals fail green team. It’s harder than buds because the amount of pressure and fear of failure having to go back to your seal team 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,10,sdv and look at everyone if you fail green team. But I will say it’s the one school you fail nobody will give you shit about failing because they feel so bad for you. Lol.

He compliments us on our drills and skills and tells us they are a bit pissed off because we were doing things right it put the IRA off having a crack at us! So....we were bait then? only thing that get me is that the parsites in westminster expect one hell of a lot for what they are prepared to pay you.......you would have thought that they would get tripple pay and be treated to five star treatment when they are not on duty rather than just the palad inn to unwind in...........i have a friend back out in Thailand, he was an NCO from 2.2 he got injured out when a C130 he was riding in hit the side of a mountain in Bosnia and kart wheeled.............he has serious PTSD.......he is a superb fella but he got warned to leave England if he did not want to end up getting locked up, for acting out with his PTSD which incidentaly the MOD still refuse to recognize as a condition that they bear responsibility for as so that they do not have to spend the money on fixing the people who they screwed up........................i respect you Chris but i would not be prepared to serve an institution that spits me out and takes no responsibility for once they have got what they want. better to just get the training and turn freelance if you are going to go that route.

I can guarantee you this 99.9% of these supposed leaders and major Corporation leaders would wet there pants if ever put in a direct action environment... we are lead by farmers not hunters... nature never intended the the week to survive but humans seem to have cheated natural selection buy learning to manipulate the masses... apologies for the rant, but you know where I'm coming from... all the best, and have subscribed 👍

jonathan lovejoy - no disrespect meant but it’s always been that way in the British armed forces, poorly paid and in the past mistreated by public school types who have in the past (and I think still do) look down on the general-population as peasant stock/canon fodder.
No skill set as such brings in a poor salary in civilian life as well as the armed forces

SAS, SBS & U.S. Navy SEALS may differ in selection and training criterias and they're all capable of reconnaissance & their direct action just means insertion extraction missions objectives (going in fast and get the job done fast as possible out fast too) unlike U. S. Green Berets they stay for longer mission objectives including psyops, winning hearts & minds through medical assistance.... etc.

Any R.E. or R.E.M.E on here or anyone that knows about them in their operations?
I'm asking because my dad (R.I.P) was R.E. (52nd I think, 60's early 70's) but he would never really tell us kids about what they got up to. What they really got up to.
Yeah, he would tell us he fixed lorries and jeeps, build the odd bridge, but that was about it.
I have a picture of him in some desert with what i think is a Bren mk2 or 3 (im not sure, might be wrong).
I overheard him one night telling him and my mum's friends that they were dropped onto a runway at night, cut holes in the runway, put in explosives and blew up the runway. When they were waiting for the helicopter to come and pick them up, they were under heavy fire and had to defend their position. He said they got out okay. That was Mid-East or North Africa. That's the only real story i heard.....and I wasn't even supposed to hear that.
Heres me thinking they were fixing jeep engines...
He done Singapore, Burma, France, Mid-East, Oman, Germany and settled in Northern Ireland.
I know he was a Corporal when he left.
Was a Combat Engineer at one point (would love to hear about that or is that blowing up runways in foreign countries?),
Had weird scars on back of his neck....a deep gouge, one either side of his spine
and had really sore toes all the time.
Dont know if those last two have anything to do with anything, thought id put them in,you never know.
Anyway, I would love to hear some home truths about what the R.E. and R.E.M.E. really get up to.

I done 22 years in the Army and we always looked up to the lads that had the gumption to go on selection. However the mystique and the training methods, tactics etc has been given away by our Westminster politicians sending not just special forces training teams out but training teams from the Army to different parts of the world to bring their forces up to the same level as British forces. So our effectiveness is being jeopardised by greed.

    • @ashleygoggs5679

not necessarily, any special forces training is generally given to our allies with said needed training, countries like those in europe such as the balkans etc. then long time colonial allies such as Oman, Canada, Australia etc. We live in a different world now where the real threats in a hot war is russia or china. The UK is tiny if any of these wars broke out and so we need the necessary allies with the training required. A good example of this training is as stated in the Balkans. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are the first countries hit if russia decided to go offensive in europe. The Balkans are the first line of defense for the higher European powers to mobilise armies into Europe (UK, Spain, Germany, France and italy). All said countries i just mentioned have equal imput in training. This is just how Nato operates, we rely on eachother and so we help and protect eachother from a militaristic stand point. There is no better sign of this help then with Ukraine. The UK, Germany, French and Americans are training ukrainian forces and even selling arms to show to russia we back them up, hell the UK is building ships for them to protect their shores in the blacksea. This sharing of militaristic intel, training and firearms is probably the biggest deterrance we have against a hot war if you discount nukes. Europe is a continent of small nations, but collectively with our technological advantage and cumulative armies we far out match the russians, then take into account our allies in Asia, Africa and Americas, we are force to be reckoned with. The UK in particular is making massive strides in our military advancements of late.

Actually I thought or heard that the Royal Marines go through Special forces selection like everyone then go on to do a further course to become a member of the SBS.
