How to Install a Hidden Kill Switch in your Car or Truck (Cheap Anti Theft System)

- Instead of installing an expensive car alarm system or using ineffective methods to prevent your car from getting stolen, learn how to install an inexpensive, hidden kill switch. simplisafe.com/dreamcar
This kill switch is easy to install and anyone can do it at home with basic tools. It can also work along with your car's current alarm system. How it works is it cuts the power to the fuel pump so you cannot jump start the car, hot wire it, or even push start it. In order to steal the car you need to tow it! It is better than a batter quick disconnect because your computer wont restart and you wont lose your radio stations.

A kill switch doesn't stop them from just towing it away...
That must be the first time that you've been happy about your car not starting😂
They could also just swap out the fuel pump relay for a couple wires to turn the fuel pump on.
Nice Skyline Chris
Chris what about a video on how to protect your sideview from being stolen. I know of a lot of case where the mirror itself was stolen not the housing. I saw a company that sells very nice looking protector that cover the border of the mirror so that you cant pull them out but they cost 200 dollars. I really liked this kill switch video. This will definitely be my next project.

This is gold. My dad used to do this to his cars by using the cigarette lighter. The car wouldn't start unless the cigarette lighter was pushed in. The thing I like about the fuel pump method is that the thief doesn't know for sure if there's a kill switch - there could just be something else wrong with the car. And the repeated attempts at turning it over make a lot of noise, which is when they get introduced to your baseball bat.
Sounds like a perfect introduction!
Also, put a big sock over your baseball bat, that way, if someone grabs it, they just grab the sock.

From an old Air Force electronics teacher and electronics technician, just to add a small bit to your comprehensive presentation: We always had to read aloud a "caution" about probing connectors. If you've never probed a connector with multimeter leads, it's possible to damage the connector. Just do this part with a little extra care so as not to damage the connector. Excellent video - thanks!
Thanks!
has the beauty of hermetically sealed packages faded or are they still sexy A.F. in your eyes as they are mine?
Definitely this, working with equipment we usually keep a handful of different pins soldered to short leads for probing for a quick insert that won't risk damaging the connectors.

Amazed it's taken so long for this idea to re-emerge. I fitted one to my 1948 Morris minor convertible back in the 1960's.
My 1986 Vauxhall Nova had a distributor and points, so I broke into the 12v supply to the coil and installed a switch and capacitor to earth, so the engine would crank but there'd be no high tension supply to the sparkplugs. When I finish rebuilding my 1970s Land Rover I'll be installing something similar. The only downside is both vehicles have mechanical lift pumps, so cranking the engine without starting will flood the engine.
Hi there I remembered the kill switch back in the 80' same process, you could become an electrician's teacher, explaining very clearly without missing a point how to install it.

I worked at a Chevrolet dealer in the early 1990s. They sold an ignition cutoff switch system in “aftermarket” called Prolock. We must have sold hundreds of those a year. They cost near $1200. After a few weeks, I realized the complicated circuit board on an easy to remove key was only a switch. We would use a 180 bent paperclip To start cars when we didn’t have the proper key. When a customer didn’t buy the prolock, the service department would install the same chip without the handle for easy removal. These were so cheap, they were installed in every car but only a % bought them. However, clever people would not buy it and then acquire the key to replace with the dummy circuit board. Car dealerships can be such a scam! Thanks for the tip Chris, I need to do this in all my cars

This is a great idea but could be implemented in a better way: add a 'momentary' push-to-make switch in the crank (or security) circuit. This way, it is automatically 'armed' when the motor is shut down (you don't need to remember to throw the kill switch). But moreover it avoids the potential danger of the fuel pump accidentally being stopped while you are driving (at which point you might miss your power steering and servo'ed brakes (if auto)).

Hey- great instructional video. I'm thinking someone can still go to the relay (if they know where it is) and trace the killswitch cable back, or better yet, just reattach the wires without the killswitch. To avoid this, you can reroute that other end of the wire so that it isn't even in the spot where the relay is; obfuscate it through panels that would require taking a considerable amount of the car apart to trace it.
Can you explain this a little more? I was thinking the same that it would be easy to just re-splice those wires if you know where the relay is. Where would you reroute which wire? thanks!
As a professional car thief,I must say this was very informative and educational

@@Asdayasman exactly
Lol horns mean nothing just pop the hood cut horn wires, problem solved
Notice that when wires are grouped that way in a single connector, they all have specific colors to identify them along the length of the entire run wherever they end up on the other side under the hood or anywhere else. Some are yellow with green stripe, green with yellow stripe, black with yellow stripe, etc. You can identify the wire color, follow the group sheath to see where it ends, and make your splice in a more hidden location under the hood, where it can look more like an actual engine installation, and from there still bring your switch to wherever you need it. In that way when the thief looks at the connector it wouldn't show that it was altered with crimps, electric tape, etc. The thief can see the obvious extra wire pair that is not part of the group and try to follow it to se where it ends, or where it's going, and guess where your switch could be.
Would the thief go to that much effort though? When they realise it doesn't start, unless they really really wanted it they would probably run so they do not get caught by the owner.

Been watching your videos throughout my childhood, mostly the driftstang videos waiting for the day I get a car of my own.
My dad just got me a C4 vette for my first car to daily drive in the summer, i dont live somewhere where sports cars are very popular, lots of snow but its to learn how to be a mechanic.
This is somthing I'm definitly going to install, since where I work, its not a good part of town and lots of foot traffic, and even with the chip system, I'm nervous about thevery
Gonna try to daisy-chain them so that several switches have to be set to the right position, mad max style
And when you connect them in parallel. Leaving your car at some place would be parallel parking...
haha, up down up up up down up down down ... vroom!
At that point... wouldnt it be easier for the thief to just cut the wires and stick them together?
@@DivinityOfBLaze yeah, that’s what I usually do 😉

Thank you for this. I’m currently binging a lot of your videos to save them for later when I buy my own truck.
You have a knack for finding jobs to explain that are just hard enough to be worth doing, but not so hard to be beyond the majority of your audience.
As a professional auto mechanic, I got to see several different "kill switch" installations but the most ingenius theft prevention did NOT include an aftermarket switch of any kind. It was NOT a kill switch but a START PREVENTION system. The owner had the starter relay connected to the HIGH BEAM side of the dimmer switch so the only time the starter would engage was when the HIGH BEAMS were turned on! If done properly, I would challenge ANYONE to find out why the car would NOT start!
Smart. I’ve heard of people doing this with their ac controls as well
Video!
cig socket too
But, if the car has a manual gearbox, you can just bump start it.......not very smart.
@@Hevolash Nope this cuts off the fuel pump. Won't get far
I find a good habit to get into when adding switches is to use one male and one female connector on the switch leg wires. That way, if your switch goes bad and your stuck without tools, you can just unplug the switch and plug those wires directly to each other.
Also, I would avoid using a style of wire loom or wire color that is blaringly different from stock appearance. Run those wires tightly against stock looms when possible. Hide em!
Personally I like to have a bit of fun with my kill switches. Its an opportunity to get creative. My last one, I installed a 3 legged switch. One hot for pump in, one for pump out. The third leg, when switch is armed, redirects power to the horn. Someone trys to hotwire the car and they blast the horn instead. Probably won't stick around to figure it out after that.
Thanks a lot and good ideas.
Could I make one of the buttons in my car be my kill switch, such as rear defrost?
@@BustaShenanigans I know its possible, I just don’t know how.. sorry if this isn’t helpful lol
Can you make a tutorial of that?
@@BustaShenanigans Yeah but you'd probably have to be more eletrically talented - i know it'd probably be easy with a personalized CPU, but probably much more difficult if you just try to do it eletrically
I dont own a car and i am not a car enthusiast either but i am addicted to his videos. i get ASMR feelings from it
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It was very useful and informative!
10 bucks says he didn't move the switch after the video
pointedspider let’s go find out
Reelspill I’m down
He bought that car for $300 😂 Not worth it
yeah he put thread locker on and i thought thats a wrap jack, hes not moving it lmao
Poonam Singh you dont have to sub to a channel to steal a car
I installed one of these on my girlfriend's car last year.
Haven't told her yet.
This is your girlfriend. Come here right now
so she couldn´t run off?
@@StLaparole So she can't drive off.
Super helpful if she plans to take the kids. SHOULD'VE DONE THIS TO KAREN 😡
Keep her car safe bro
Wow, from one youtuber to another, you did a great job on this!
This guy is good. Easy to see why he has 10M subs. This was awesome. Thanks Chris !

You can still win. GPS welded into the frame with 1/4" steel plate and a separate battery that is charged by the main battery. GPS receivers draw very little power and you can easily run it for over a month even after they chopped the car. Show up with extra keys and buddies, take it in broad daylight as you can prove ownership and nobody else can. This avoids fighting for your car and the theif would have to identify themselves to stop you.
A siren welded into the frame on an "always on" circuit, that activates permanently once a certain wire is unplugged. Any random wire will do, try to pick one on a valuable part that can be split where it isn't seen.
Nobody ever chops a frame, and this makes it so they have to cut the frame (extremely loud) to make it stop. They'll dump the car ASAP or run
My dad's Austin mini got chopped in his work parking lot while he was working. A loud noise would have saved his car and given him a chance to see how many people fit in the trunk :P
@@FletcherHillier eh easier to hook up a tracker to a fuse tap, just pop off a panel in the footwell and drop in in a hole in the frame, even just leave it there without bothering with the frame at all it isnt like the repo guys are looking for a tracker
