April 1st. Last year was good too.
I was like...some confused title. Valve springs and a piston return issue? Oh, this just doesn't make sense. How in the world he got blue driver on board to adjust their app to play a long really kills me. Unless he put a doctored video on his phone and pushed buttons with the right timing??
This is the highest quality april fools joke I've ever seen. Well done!
That was so well done. I believed that through the video. And I know how an engine works.
ha ha I didn't think I could be fooled by such a thing.
great job!
😂😂 I absolutely love these April fools videos wish you’d make some more I’m a total gear head but back before I knew a lot about cars my uncle had a 4 cylinder car that was running terrible cause the coil packs were shot and I had a 45 min argument with my dad over piston return springs thinking that they were the culprit I’ll never forget the face he made when I told him the return springs might be bad 😂😂😂
Just fitted new piston return springs to my cuminins 6bta, doubled the bhp! Amazing! Seems like the engine is bouncing around a bit more than usual now tho, probably highlighted the worn piston con rod shock absorbers. Thanks so much, life changing!
Me at first: “what in the hell are piston return springs? That’s not a real thing!”
Me later: “oh he’s got a diagram, must be legit”

@Brett Collins yeah I seen that, and the engine wouldn’t start.

Good time to do the head gasket though!
Imagine someone pulled their engine apart and panicked when they didn't see the return springs that were supposed to be there!
Chris, I just pulled my 6g74 engine apart and found that I don’t have return springs.:. Should I be worried?
I was watching this because I plan on changing a head gasket this week. I was on Rockauto looking for the springs before the video was over because I figured I might as well do that while I'm in there
@@marquitalley8354 I think the real issue is pulling the engine apart and not having new springs available to replace the supposed old ones.

Then I come across this gem of video, and For ten minutes I thought well, I guess I just have a lot more to learn than I thought. I seriously was questioning everything I thought I knew. I know enough about engines, to know, there are no such things as engine return springs but the way you explained everything made me actually believe that could be an issue
Engine return springs do exist, only in his vehicle.
ObviouslyI'm a little late here but I was thinking "how do these things not explode in the cylinder after you start it"? Lol I have been working on vehicles for years now but I've never owned nor worked on a honda. Totally started to believe it all haha

Guys at parts stores are so onto it, they'll say "just sold the last one. Its gonna be 3 weeks for the next one. Eyedropper wouldnt work huh?" "Uh..well I figured I'd just get a new one anyways"
After 15 minutes walking around the store, "So um..its been so long since I tried an eyedropper...how do you do it?" "The same way as the old way". By now theyre freaking out. @@chrisfix I know nothing about cars and especially engines, so I totally believed everything. Oh well, I guess I need to go and change my blinker fluid now.
Hi Chris Fix/Fish I love your videos. It's beautiful that you make such complicated jobs look like a piece of cake. However I think the video hasn't mentioned something very important. When you open the engine I think it's a must to measure the warp with the "ruller feeler gauge" method which is the simplest solution or with a micrometer. Also depending on the car or the mileage it may be better to take the engine out of the vehicle and take it apart then measure every backlash (gap) and then change what is needed. Maybe you even need to go to the machinery shop to make the piston wall or block machined. I think it's better to only open your engine once and never again. Maybe this is why shops ask for so much money for this job.
I hope it makes sense. I'm not a native speaker so I can't write my thoughts excellent but I think you get the idea.
Love your videos and waiting for the new season to see more Fishing videos.

It is dangerous how believable this man is.
Legit, I feel like I’m more on the knowledgeable side of an engine and how it works, & I was for real clueless and had full intention on googling what engines used piston return springs cause I had just never heard of it. Lmao But from the OBD screen on your phone, down to the service manual, I was convinced it was just yet another thing I hadn’t learned about previously. This is an old video but always revert back to Chrisfix. Great video!!
I've been having these issues too. I've already flushed out my blinker fluid and replaced my muffler bearing already. I never thought that the piston return spring would need replacing. Thanks ChrisFix!
Glad the video was helpful! You know I'm here to help!
You got me. I've been working on cars for fun for like two years, I never replaced anything on a Honda so I was like, "Maybe that's a weird Honda thing?" Lol

Jk its from in the head. Variable Valve Timing Electric Control is what it stands for.
I love it, might as well check the muffler bearings next. Showed it to a none mechanical friend who didn't understand why i was laughing so much. Keep up the good work.
When loosening the head bolts I recommend loosening them in the reverse tightening sequence about a half turn at a time to avoid warping the head. I am an ME and worked on a lot of gaskets of all types. These head gaskets have tremendous forces in the bolts so you want to back off on that slowly to avoid warping. Heads are expensive.
Any seasoned gearhead knows this is BS...but the level of detail that went into said BS made it very entertaining. Bravo!

farley1992 me to. I then began to think it was just a honda thing hahaha
I too, in 50 years, never heard of such a thing as piston return springs. It's seems counter productive. The springs apply additional force during combustion but the springs need energy to compress. With added maintenance, I don't see the need but then I'm not an automotive engineer. No honda do I see in my future.

Can't believe this! I really thought I'd been missing something in my knowledge of mechanics, and feeling slightly embarrassed with myself, was about to look up piston return springs.

He head lowering kit increases compression so you need to run race fuel!
LOL that is funny.
depends how much you lower it by and how much the compression increases

I ve been watching this for 2 weeks and learned a lot 👍
2:31 "just call your local dealership or parts store and ask them"
You: make the call
Them: ahahahahahahaha
😂😂😂😂
Sadly, some of the parts shops around me would actually spend 15 minutes trying to find them, then come back and ask me if they were for a "Manual or automatic"?
I ran my engine low on oil, and broke all 8 piston return springs. I replaced them and no more rod knock. Thank you so much!!
Hi temp foam rubber works just as well, if not better. Just make sure to use 2 cups titanium chips in the block after draining oil and before smoke reving it. I've seen some guys drain the oil and forget the chips and rev it to the floor for 30 minutes. It smokes and squeals and auto shuts off fine. But it loses a little power after that.
Sometimes just playground sand works too. But then you have to take out the plugs, grind off the thread build up before hammering back into the heads. But thats about the only way to get the sanding powder into the cylinders
Another great April fools joke 😂
And the blue driver scanner is a nice touch

Man, after fixing her that start up was amazing! I must of listened to it 10 times by now
P.S. I did NOT expect the April Fools at all!! Would LOVE to see how you cleaned that engine inside!!! Incredible clean!!!!
I’ve never worked on a diesel. Piston return springs were a new one for me. Had to watch. Lol. Good one.

I am so gullible. From the very start I KNEW I had never seen these before, but still felt like I was learning something new and watched the whole thing.

Dude,I disassembled the entire engine to "replace" the springs only to find out there are no springs and the video was published on the 1st of april =)))
Nice one Chris =))))
I never saw this vid from Chrisfix and it's a few years ago but he almost got me now haha. At first I never heard of these springs until he showed a diagram.
My return springs were totally missing!!!!! Must have been a factory mistake. Having trouble finding new ones. Any advice ?
Darn! I would check and see if there is a recall from the manufacturer to fix that mistake! ;)

Soapy wooder 😂
That is machines
is that a tesla? I heard about panel gap and other build quality issues; may be they totally forgot about return springs this time
