  • DIY odometer repair and LED dash light install. Learn how to fix your odometer to show the correct mileage when you drive. The odometer gear can easily be repaired by taking the gauges out from the dashboard, but I also show you how to replace the speed sensor. Since we are taking the dash apart, I show you how to install LED bulbs for your instrument cluster.

Spray cold engine (make sure engine isn't hot) with light rinse (don't use power washer). Spray engine with degreaser (i use purple power). Let it sit for 5-10 mins and then lightly scrub. I replaced the same gears in a Mercury about 12 years ago. Unfortunately I could not buy them anywhere, so I had to make my own. Worked great after the swap. Sometimes you can hear a noise coming from the dash when they're worn out. The LED's usually will not burn out, but the level of intensity will fade over time. If you don't have a Torx, then you can also squeeze by with a hex key.

You can also just sucker up and get a junkyard cluster too. Odometer will be off, but if you're a sensible person like most people aren't, you can put a piece of tape on the cluster and write the mileage of the car, and the mileage of the cluster when installed. That way, you will never lose track. Or you can just swap out the broken parts from the good cluster into your original one.

My odometer was fine. I made an exact duplicate using the broken gear. I was able to make a mold and pour it using epoxy resin.

No, it was a long time ago. The broken gear looked IDENTICAL to what Chris showed. I used dental impression material. The gear had to be lifted up and rotated into another position to make up for the area that was broken. Worked great.

    • @helivesonforever
      @helivesonforever 7 년 전

electronicsNmore That sounds awesome. I almost think that most car manufacturers use the same products for their odometers. The size might be a little bit different, but the parts are almost always identical from what I've seen.

      We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I
      A full commitment's what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other guy
I just want to tell you how I'm feeling
      Gotta make you understand
Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you
We've known each other for so long
Your heart's been aching but you're too shy to say it
Inside we both know what's been going on
We know the game and we're gonna play it
And if you ask me how I'm feeling
Don't tell me you're too blind to see
Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you
Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down
