  • Why would abandoning globalization be a shame? Nasdaq CEO Adena Friedman says investors hold an “enormous amount of influence” when it comes to fixing inequalities in the workforce. She explains how it would be a “shame” for companies and countries to give up on globalization and says technology, and big tech firms, are driving the future of the economy. Friedman says the IPO market has recovered quickly during the coronavirus pandemic but adds it could slow down around the 2020 presidential election.

      Shes a globalist. The system works well for crooks like her who get a bigger piece of the larger pie while 99% of your country men get smaller pieces than what they had before. And whats “lifting people out of poverty”? Just because they don’t have a dollar doesn’t mean people are poor. China was an agrarian communist economy, they had no need for money. Doesn’t mean they were suffering.

      Microsoft will be the cloud winner because its moat is Azure (private and hybrid cloud)
      which cannot be copied by other companies which have public cloud (Amazon, Google, etc.).
      Due to federal compliance laws, some companies (banks) must keep data
      in the U.S. in a private cloud.
      Microsoft is saving money by closing the stores at the malls.
      For young people, Microsoft already has the minecraft game, Xbox.
      Microsoft gets TikTok as a cloud customer; also means that Tiktok would incur less cloud expense so its profit also improves!

    She talked about all the pluses with globalization but neglected to talk about any of the downsides which is usually a good indication that the person talking lacks credibility. Some of the disadvatages are:
    * Fuels inequality
    * Destroys the environment
    * Creates a race to the bottom
    * Leaves us vulnerable to infectious diseases and pandemics like the one we have now
    * Exploits cheap labor and countries with poor/lax human rights
    * Promotes unnecessary consumption which essentially accelerates pulling material out of the earth which is then harmful to our soil, waters and air (fossil fuels, plastics, spent nuclear fuels, etc.)
    * Ultimately drives profits to the 1% through the equity markets while paying people who actually do the work a stagnant, non-livable wage
    * Monopoly and undue powers to exploit consumers, sway government and public policies that are detriment to citizens
    * Promotes Boom and Bust cycles, devastating economies and people's lives and livlihoods.

    The term Globalization is not accurate. It’s really centralized manufacturing, since it’s all done in primarily one area. What’s globalized is the consuming of goods. Which was the case for most of modern history.

    • @zackhilton8035
      @zackhilton8035 3 년 전

      IMO swap that "...primarily one area" to developing country will be more accurate. Loads of them took over the low-end jobs as every capitalist and developed county wanted so they can breathe cleaner air on their private yacht. Also, you forgot about technology and service, not just consumption that is globalized.

    If she really understood globalisation she would realise as an economic model it does not work.... a few get rich and the rest get very very poor. If you are not inclusive of people you will fail... ultimately you have to many people to support and the rest have nobody to sell to... if they can't earn an income. How she concludes globalisation creates jobs is ridiculous, centralise everything to drive down unit cost production with digitised automation does not create employment. Yes there will be more jobs in technology but it works on a principle of more from less while global populations increase, just another unit cost reduction model.

      I agree, but I'm curious to understand your reasons for it. In my opinion, she is trying to believe (or make us believe) that globalization under the hyper-capitalist infrastructure of the late 20th and 21st centuries is somehow beneficial for all parties involved. She propagates the myth of how it has pulled countries out of poverty, while completely ignoring the fact that the whole system is built on exploitation of their human and natural resources for the comfort of the few.

    I have no faith/hope in capitalism reason being my life is not in my hands, it is in the hands of the Investor's we'll never meet. I want my life and my self-worth to be determined by me and my will to "do" and not what one is willing to give me or how much one likes me. Nikola Tesla is a prime example and there have been many others as well
    . Humanity has stagnated itself by 500 to a 1000 years in technological development because of it. That is the core the problem you cannot just simply "do" more and get more, in effect as of right now if you work more you get less, if you do less you get more prime example what do CEOs do talk make a few phone calls goto meetings and probably make a plan or two but a lot of that is driven by humans under them, what do workers "do the actual work" and all of that will soon be replaced by robots so we need a new system you cannot hold on to the stone age way of doing things it is time to modernize the monetary system and it will no longer be capitalism we will give it a new name. It is your life it should be in your hands
