Quite the contrary to your statement. Tesla isn't gaining despite the so called "competition" from established OEMS and start ups. Tesla is rising BECAUSE of them. The OEMs are yet to produce a car that can match the Model S which is 8 years old now. Not one of them. The start-ups are even worse, how many have a working prototype? Fiskers on his 3rd attempt/failure. Nikola doesn't have a factory or proprietary technology. The bold proclaimations and lack of execution by those "competitors" is why Tesla is rising, in contrast Tesla is doing everything these companies wish they were.
Is tesla over valued? By every metric of measurement it is today. But that's not because investors are crazy, it's because there simply isn't a better alternative to invest in.

Tesla is a software company primarily, which other company can offer its customers a $8K software update? Tesla is also a car company an energy company, an insurance company a neural net chip design company and design company a battery company and a few others. The legacy OEM's are lego companies, making cars that have no future.

"The competition is coming from all sides". You've been parroting this for over 13 years. Where's this competition? There's nothing that currently offers equivalent value to a model Y or model 3. Tesla's technology is 3-5 years ahead of the competition. No talented engineer wants to work for GM, Ford, Volkswagen, they want to work for Tesla. Tesla has the talent, the right corporate culture, innovation, and leadership. They're more than a car company.

    What's your next plan?
Plan #1: "Tesla will go bankrupt!!!"
    2020 Madness
But only Tesla is doing great during the illness.
They are profitable since four consecutive quarters. S&P500 inclusion on the horizon.
    Giga Shanghai Expansion.
Giga Berlin building in record time.
Giga Texas building in record time.
Meanwhile the "competition" is cutting back costs and workforce's everywhere.
Plan #2: "But competition is coming!!!"
    What competition?!
There is Tesla. And the dinosaur automakers.
Tesla is years ahead of them. Meanwhile the legacy automakers still have to burn billions for their ICE car production / R&D.
Just look at the Model S from 2013. Until today after 7 years there is no equivalent EV from one of those so called competition.
Hint, Tesla is much more than a car company.

There are plenty car makers that make other stuff too. Honda makes jets, Peugeot makes pepper grinders, Toyota builds homes, Voikswagen's most popular item are sausages, Ferrari branding is on more items than Dior it seems and Mitsubishi makes pretty much anything. Just to name a few.
Then there are brands that used to make other things than cars and since split off, like Volvo, Saab, Rolls Royce, Lamborghini and many more.
First and foremost, Tesla is a car and energy company. They don't do anything else.

@ 2:00 :-I follow Tesla closely. I've delved into their business model. The 'competition' propaganda has been FUD-ing for over 5 years now. The companies mentioned are trying to bluff their way through this crisis. Some will go bankrupt trying to pivot, too little, too late.
Even as far back as the early 1990's automakers were lobbying states like CA to repeal laws that were forcing them to produce EV's. In CA they succeeded. THEY WANTED THE STATUS QUO. Their gravy train (us consumers) to keep buying old fossil burning model T's. They had their chance! Now they reap what they sowed. Even with S-Trump-et repealing EPA emissions regulations, several legacy automakers STILL got on board to try & trash CA's autonomy on their emissions standards. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THE PUBLIC. They just want the status quo. So in summary, there are no 'Tesla Killers'. It's 2015 propaganda FUD messaging still being pushed on the (oblivious) public even today. Do your own verification (not based on news reports).

Millions unemployed, starving, about to be evicted, hundreds of thousands of small businesses have or about to shutdown permanently, state and local governments running out of revenue, and 45 and Trumpsters balking on a new pandemic relief fund package are all factors of Main Street today. Does Wall Street just ignore this or just don't care? Wall Street will soon earn further contempt for Main Street. Thank you, Mackenzie--great work. Be safe, stay safe.

Traditional OEM's are sort of screwed. They have a broken business model and that cannot be fixed sans bankruptcy and a large reorganization. They just aren't vertically integrated and that is killing them slowly. Their problems:
    1) Dealers take a cut. Traditional OEM's cannot sell directly to customers due to their contracts with the dealers.
    2) They don't build batteries. They'll have to contract out to a battery firm, where they will take a cut.
    3) They are overly dependent on outside suppliers for nearly everything. This makes it extremely hard to shift quickly or to make radical changes to a vehicle as they would be breaking contracts. Example - electric cars require a new type of air conditioner. They will have to break a deal with one supplier and find another.
    4) The UAW makes it difficult to make the large structural changes required to change their factories around and repurporse their workers - such as letting many workers go or many factories to close. This is what caused two of the big three to go bust in '08. The UAW stopped them from shuttering factories and product lines. Bankruptcy was their only option.
    5) They are about 10 years behind on the technology curve
    6) They'll be reliant on an outside producer for self driving which will eat at their margins.
    7) Due to their overreliance on outside suppliers they can't change a car's design in total if they think of a better design. An example is Tesla redoing the wiring in the Model Y because they found a more efficient way to connect the components of a vehicle which eliminated miles of excess wiring thus reducing the price of the car and simplifying manufacturing.
    8) Traditional OEM's currently cannot produce an electric car at Tesla's prices at a profit. They are years behind in process technology and getting further behind - they are not catching up.
