It is disturbing when the USA deals with competitors in authoritarian and manipulative ways. You can use the apps in The USA with a VPN like many who needs access to Google, Facebook, KRplus etc. in China do. So it has no influence on USA "security".

With smartphones I never buy the latest flagship phones. I wait until the the new ones come out and I get the previous versions. If I buy the latest version of a phone it would have to be a midrange phone. Right now I have the LG V40 and the current flagship for LG is the V60 ($600-800). LG just released the LG Velvet at select locations. So next year I should be able to get the LG V60 for about $400 (if I don't get the Samsung A71 first). I never pay over $500 for a smartphone.

I’ve heard of it... but never use it... makes no sense when I already have a phone # to text message and there are other apps + built in features to the iPhone that do the same function that wechat does... literally a pointless app..
WeChat is a cashless payment + messenger in China. You can buy or order anything in china. They almost cashless in china.
I saw some store/supermarket no longer using cashier, they just take a drink/food then scan the QR and done. No human interaction. And when i went to KFC/McD, they scan the QR, select the menu from their own phone, and wait for queue number in monitor. And i am the only one that pay using money paper, i feel old fashioned. You can see QR code everywhere, and can be paid using wechat.
In china it is a really really important app. But Outside china, it is only a messenger app to contact people in china.

Google’s phone market share, even including their other hardware like the pixel tablets, is shocking small but makes for especially juicy personal data collection. Google makes over 90% of their revenue from collecting personal data and selling it for targeted advertising, data analytics, etc. Last I saw, phones are only around 1% of their revenue. Contrast that to Apple where the majority of their revenue is from mobile device sales and Samsung is also a hardware company. LG and others are much closer competitors in the phone market than Google no matter how good Pixel phones are. Google’s hardware is just another carrot on a stick to collect more personal data, as unlike other Android phones such as from Samsung, Google controls the entire phone. You can’t turn off or really even significantly limit their spyware. So even the relatively few Pixel users out there still represent a data goldmine to Google. The day is coming when Google is hacked Equifax style or an employee goes rogue Snowden style and most everyone who says they don’t care about their data collection is going to have a different opinion.

I think you're missing the point, sure you might be able to use a different messenger on a small scale but you are saying EVERYONE needs to stop it, and that's going to be hard to implement from a business standpoint. Enterprises turn like battleships so if they already have protocols in place it's going to be hard to implement a change like that. Not impossible, just hard.
