Beats Studio Pro Review: Lots to Love, a Little to Hate
μμ€ μ½λ
- κ²μμΌ 2024. 04. 27.
- Beats' new fourth-gen Studio headphones look similar to their predecessor on the outside but have some big changes on the inside that make them significantly better headphones -- and excellent headphones overall for both Apple and Android users. But they leave off a couple of features that could have made them even better. Watch CNET editor David Carnoy's full review.

Good on CNET for still keeping a professional approach to tech reviews. Concise.

I love that they added direct wired lossless audio capability.
Literally any headphone with a wire has that feature.
@@stevenp3176yes but also you need a DAC
That Apple will charge $20 for
@@victorjmaranonbut not necessarily in the headphones
@@stevenp3176 Airpod max doesn't... their wire doesn't allow lossless.
Really they did improve the durability. Back when working for apple, always had customers coming back with headband and hinge durability issues
Guess people are rougher with their stuff than I am, my beats held up good. Other then replacing the foam and plastic one in a while.
@@cjadventures8840facts iβve had my beats about 2 years and havenβt had a single issue with them and i use em a lot
That brown color looks so good.
Curious if the reason why the headphones use a "custom chip" instead of Apple's H2 is for the accommodation of the Android features. Although, I've used my Powerbeats (2020) on both platforms and everything works fine after having to manually pair on Android
Wonderful review. I appreciate the specific comparisons with other products. These sound like the would be fine for me, though they are a bit out of my price range.
Thanks! (They should come down in price in due time).
$169 on Amazon right now.
If they make the translucent version its over for my wallet
Youβre right a bugs bunny slap against Nothing
I just want the original design black and red.
ππππ
That would be sick
Nothing be like: On it!
oh i LOVE that it has the same design as before !
looking forward to try this out
David's reviews are still the only remaining reason I visit any of CNET's content. At least Apple has Beats moving in the right direction.
Yep. Beats has improved since Apple bought them out in 2014. Before that, you were solely paying all that money for the logo.
My biggest concern with the last version was the cushions keep falling apart. And so, repairing them was expensive. I liked that with the AirPod Max, I can remove the cushions
I just repaired my old beats studio 3 with earpads replacements from amazon, it cost 20$ and was easy to replace, many youtube videos show you how.
Wdym repairing them was expensive?
That wouldnβt be a bad feature for them to add π€
I had a pair of the last generation Studio Proβs and the ear pads began cracking. Not only was it very disappointing that there was no official support channel to purchase replacement ear pads but it was also disappointing to discover the ear pads are basically glued on which made it very difficult to attempt to replace them with 3rd party ear pads. Unfortunately I wound up snapping the headband when I attempted to replace mine. At that point I bought a pair of Bose and never looked back. Also something nice about Bose is you can buy replacement ear pads directly from them for just over $30. Additionally they are super simple to replace. Personally I would steer clear of any manufacturer who doesnβt officially support replacing ear pads on premium headphones.
Thank you!! This was an incredible video. Am going to buy them. Qu though: is it worth purchasing the 2yr, $25 apple warranty?
Great price prediction! It's currently $249 on Amazon.
Is there the ability to share audio to another to airpod - since it doesnt have the H2 chip?
Thanks John, however I would like to ask I'm sure you had time using Sony WH1000XM5 with Spatial audio how did it show up on the iPhone was it through Sony Center app or Apple settings?
Thanks for this video. I would also like to see a more in-depth comparison between this new Studio Pro and the Apple AirPods Max.
Haha!

Great review. I have the Beats Solo 3 for a number of years still works great. The padding show a very little wear but I was looking for something a little βbiggerβ I might get the upgrade.
How do you take such good care of the earcups?
i refunded with 50 percent discount-thats that bad
Theyβre $169 now at Black Friday on Amazon
It is the first time i see this guy. I love him, just the facts, none of that youtube posturing
Nice! Added to my wishlist
Thanks for the review. Do these headsets have a mute/unmute button? I am looking for a beats headset that has a mute button for virtual meetings...
I currently hace the Bose 700 should i switch to these
Just bought these not that long ago love them I got the deep brown color and they look incredible, the features are nice and even though they might now compare to air pods max they are a close second and for the price if you donβt want to spend 500 plus on headphones and you want style and performance you should check out these. Personal preference when it comes down to it but so far loving these headphones
the beats logo was actually beautiful.
Waiting for black friday on these. So excited.
They more than likely wonβt be on sale especially this year

I think the b logo on the new pro's should light up. That would be awesome!!!!!
Soo I just got some and I have tips for boosting the sound for just regular music listeners
Absolutely do not turn on head tracking Spatial Audio it downgrades the sound expeditiously and it honestly sounds loudest and more bass when I use my iPhones Spotify and bass booster in equalizer
Did the same thing on my android and it was nowhere near as loud and the quality was different
For android you have to use your phones equalizer in the settings there isnβt an equalizer in Spotify for android (unless I need to update I did turn on a 2 year old phone)
I am listening to this video with BEATS Studio Pro headphones. All I can say - I have not yet found a headphone that can beat this headphone with EDM music specifically. Sennheiser, Sony, Bose conme close but no way do those others sound better with than Beats Pro. I have listened to manay songs from the 80's, 90's Italo, Dance etc. I do not care if they are not comfortable or not lasting - it is all about the sound quality to me.
quick question, I think mine are defective, I hear a heavy rain like sound whenever noise cancelling is on, you don't have anything like that right?
@@alexisramis If it sounds like it's obnoxiously loud then that's probably not normal, are they fixed now?
it's a setting, background noise. You've allready found that out by now@@alexisramis
Enjoyed your presentation. I'm getting a pair of these to supplement my
Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pros and Denon Ah-d5200s, plus I LOVE deep, punchy bass. I plan to use them wired and running through my Hip DAC. I wondered if you've tried them through a similar setup?
Howβd they compare to the dt770?
Update 1 mo. later. I like the Beats a lot. I find the soundstage a little closed (the DT770s sound airier) but the bass is really strong especially with 'extra bass' on with my iFi dac. I do find them uncomfortable after 30 minutes or so. Using without a DAC with Bluetooth you lose the punchy bass but that's OK if you need to be wireless like at the gym. Sound cancelation is very good. @@dynamodav
But will the upgraded faux leather on the ear cups start flaking and peeling off after a year and a half of regular use due to sweat and natural skin oils? Only time will tell.
Hey CNET ... what was with their odd choice of the word "Fire" & "Firestick"? What was the etymology of that?
I just got a pair of these today! The dark brown one. The finish is so smooth!! Iβm 2 hrs into using these, and he is not kidding about the noise cancelation, and the compression once you put them on. By the way the guy at 6:34 was supper lost π
I just got a pair but tryna see why the bass and sound not loud is there a settings or some I got to change itβs not louder than my studios 3
@@deondrethomas3166I believe somewhere in settings on IPhone there is a setting that limits headphone audio
I love them! Iv had 2 pair.
So, I am guessing Airpods Max is little better in Sound Quality, ANC, and Transparency mode.. Thanks for the review ππ»
Ofc but you pay an extra 200$
Thank you for the video
Was lucky to get them for like $169 on Amazon for Black Friday.
I did too!
Spatial audio makes the difference for me, they sound really good! ππ
So nice headphones π§ π
Can I use transparency mode in usb c and 3.5 connections
THANK YOU FOR THE USB-C @Apple. I can finally at least consider these instead of outright rejecting them.
Dont thank Apple lol, thank the EU
If by the end of the year Apple doesnβt release the AirPods Max 2 I will get these .
The choice to use captions on this video would have been appreciated
i got these for 170 yesterday, dope.
How can you review headphones without a frequency response graph?
Could someone answer a question, do these headphones adjust in size? Like can you raise or lower the speakers??
do they become warm on ears? in how much time?
Yes, when you wear them outside in warmer environments, they will heat up your ears pretty good just like a lot of over-ear headphones (AirPods Max are cooler due to their ear padsβ material).
@@davidcarnoy961 Hi!
I thought since Apple owns beats they would bring the starlight and midnight color choices from the iPhone 13 and 14
Very good review. I just got a pair today in deep brown colour. I am disappointed because they are very uncomfortable on my ears. No matter how I adjust them they squeeze my ears and after maybe half an hour I get a lot of pain. I am not keeping them. It would be nice if I could get to try headphones on for comfort instead of wasting money buying them in the vague hope that they will fit me. The only set I have that fits well is the Soundcore Q45.
We need this in PRODUCT RED
Does the sound leak??
Does it work in cold weather?
is this good for wireless PC gaming?
I love my Beats Studio pro use them all the time
I bought the Beat Studio 3βs for $149 a couple years ago, I donβt use them very often, I think they are too bass heavy, I prefer my old Bose noise canceling headphones, even though Iβve had a problem with the power button.
the 3s aren't bass heavy and i have them
@@HazelwoodBoy250 Have you ever compared them to Bose? I wish they had controls so you could adjust the bass and treble. I have other Beats products and βIβ feel the Studio 3βs have the heaviest bass of all.
@@joelnehl to you but the 3s compared to the ones before was bass heavy
@@HazelwoodBoy250you probably havenβt tried the higher end headphones. Beats are tuned for heavy bass.
@@MarioSays713 I'm telling you studio 3s don't have that much bass
Does anybody know the iphone case he has? It looks so retro..
Using those Succession βstealth wealthβ color patterns I see π
I listen to my studio beats pro headphones without much volume and without much bass, any advice?
They need an update that ruins the headphones for me
I want one for year the always on sale. But I refuse to buy one with micro usb. They finally put usb c thatβs the best feature
Just so you guys know target has these for 179.99 and not 350 rn and I don't know how long the sale will last
I was hoping it would have three H2 chip in it
Never understood why they called it Studio. I've worked in recording studios and no one used these crap for sessions either as the musicians or sound engineers, mixers, producers. Oh now I remember. MARKETING!
They sound very good
What color are they grey or beige
Can you still used wired with no charge?
nope
I see they went for a similiar package to sony xm5's
I canβt use any over ear headphones without ear detection
mine have a blue light
is that supposed to be there?
As an industrial designer I was hoping for a redesign even if we are using the graphic design motto of keeping the classic design βCoca-Cola like β the headband itself needs an update itβs failsafe point is the hinge.. it is a clean design but the hinges on the headband could have been rethought or engineered to create a better connection and even improved fitment even if we kept the band design 90Β§ the same and updated the materials
These were the most expensive headphones i got new and they lasted the shortest before breaking
Is it better than apple head phomes
Beat's design seems to be almost apple-like stubborn (wonder why), but it'll be interesting to watch them evolve from here! unless they go full apple and don't change anything major for another 10 models.
let address the elephant in the room. when beats came out it target audience was the urban crowd, and the other 20% was the non-urban crowd who loved hardcore dance music. Apple knew Beats was going to be a tough competitor in the future so Apple did what Apple does got rid of the threat. I don't understand why these reviewers are bad mouthing Beats, when they know Apple is never going to bring out or design something new or spectacular for the Beat band. Apple is a company that doesn't like sharing the spot light.
So whats everyone opinion, get these or AirPod max
Airpods max if you have the money. if not, I recommend Sony xm5 or sennheiser momentum 4
When I tried beats way back 2012 after that experience I don't wanna buy them again because they really look and feel cheap and not worth the price.
sbc and aac?
7:29 You've been using them just a little, and the leather has cracks already.
Lol I just bought these but haven't opened. That right there makes me want to return
β@@ElloAstyI've bought it any way, and I regret the purchase.
No logo is enough of an upgrade, to be honest!
Whatβs better, the beats or the AirPods Max?
Its weird why snazzy labs is seemingly the only reviewer who does not love those headphones
he is a hardcore audiophile
Still better "priced" than the Airpod Max.
love the design but not the in top headphones out there
USB-C audio is a must due to the trash Bluetooth AAC codec Apple is committed to. A bit annoying they gatekeep Spatial Audio on Android.
They should have changed the design so you can tell it's a different headphone from the old studios.
Whatβs the point if thatβs all they changed. Plus the price hike is staggering when you compare the manufacturing costs. Speaker technology can only go so far, and I think the ruse they pull is akin to theft. They should focus more on technology and quality over aesthetics- but it is beats soβ¦
CNET and Flossy Carter is what i call doing my research lol.
π
I just wish they didnβt take away what beats weβre made for the B was for base wtf why would you take the main point out you made everything but that great with these headphones I wish it was a update or something to fix it . Everything else is great and the price is up there luckily I got them for Christmas but still I hate the base isnβt there
this dude is definitely the target audience for beats headphones
xm5 is βmoreβ comfortable?
then no for me
what is the case of your iphone 14 pro?
Purple one is Otterbox Core case. Very good case. Nice grip π
@@davidcarnoy961 thank you for the reply.π
No H2 chip? Pass

Thereβs Nothing To Hate About The Beats Studio Proβs Cause They Use USb Type C Zollotech Sayβs That Too And I Trust Him More Than Other KRplusrs Cause They Donβt Do There Research And Say The Same Thing About All Headphones And Are Liars
Saying they sound better than the previous version isnβt really high praise. Since the previous versions sounded worse than the cheaper βSolo 3β headphones.
