My younger brother asked me why a period happens. I said:

My period story:
-wakes up
-goes to washroom
-looks at the stain
-is terrified,but thinks it will just go away in few mins
-few hours later blood won't stop coming
-scared, tells mum and start crying
-Mum shows pad
-me getting terrified by looking at the pad(I don't know why),starts crying louder
- dad comes in ,mum tells him
And in the end I wore pads for 6 days

Something I have learned is to cross your legs when you're about to sneeze if you're on your period or not.

She even got me a book about periods and puberty for my birthday
Still, when i first had it, I almost had a heart attack and it was very weird and kinda scary

-School: (first period)
-Has a full on panic attack for like 5 minutes
-Makes a terrible toilet paper pad

I want to say thank you for expressing that a period isn’t something to be ashamed of ( cuz it really isn’t! ). A lot of girls who get it are super embarrassed by it but really it’s just something natural. Tho it might suck, you got every single one of us girls by your side!

I'd known about periods ever since I saw my mom's when I was four or five years old, so I wasn't too surprised when I got mine, even though we hadn't learned any of that in school yet. It was early January, still winter break, so there was no embarrassing school story. I already knew how to wear a pad, and my mom didn't make a big production of it. The only somewhat embarrassing moment was when a chaperone for our upcoming 4-day school trip called to ask if there was anything they needed to know about me (e.g. allergies, medications), and my mom told her I'd gotten my period. I didn't understand why she'd tell her. I kinda just thought that since it was something every girl got, they'd know automatically. I didn't really realize at that point that nine was considered early for a period, and that most of my classmates hadn't gotten theirs yet. I was very confused when we started learning about periods at school in fifth grade. I'd already had mine for a year by then, and I was wondering what the point was of telling us after the fact.
On a side note, I did actually get my period on said school trip, and that was another embarrassing story. I had my period and really had to pee. We were in a place where there were no bathrooms. I asked a chaperone, who decided to give me a diaper-like thing. I was like, "but I have my period," and they assured me it was all right. So the chaperones literally guided me to put on a diaper, and then place my pad on top of that. I ended up holding it in (despite having already put on the diaper), because I just couldn't fathom how peeing inside my pad was in any way okay. I still don't get why they had me do that. The more logical solution would have been to shield me while I squatted to pee.

Having my first period today. I told my mom earlier and she was very reassuring and supportive about it. Then she told my dad. Just dealing with small cramps and waiting until the shower so I can put on a new pad. It sucks going to the bathroom and wiping then blood is on the toilet paper. Anyone else relate to that? I got my first period in sixth grade. At school. In class. All over my seat.
I have severe anxiety so I just kind of tied my hoodie around my pants, walked to the bathroom and stuffed my panties with lots of toilet paper.
Then I walked back and looked down in horror at my desk chair as I realized it was completely covered in blood. I managed to sneak some paper towels down and discreetly wipe it off. Then I came home, locked myself in the bathroom and sobbed for about half an hour. My mom is a mind-reader, so she slid a pad under the door.

Me: **sleeping in someone else's spare bedroom**
My first period: *My time has come*
