He gets scared so quietly lol. I’m used to people screaming when they play this and he just huddles up silently.
Cause they try to overreact for their viewers. For their audience loud scream = funny while connor here have the actual response of someone playing the game without overreacting
Connor, if you see this, play SOMA. It's great at building tension throughout the game. It has been a while since I played it, but as far as I can remember there were only like 2 jump scares in the entire 8 hours it took me to play it through. Not only a great atmosphere in the game, it gives a dose of existential dread and horror as well. When you've finished the game it leaves you questioning what it truly means to be human. That's what it did to me at least. Can't recommend this game enough, great game, great story and great atmosphere. One of very few games I'd like to have selective amnesia for, so I'd forget the game and I can experience it for the "first" time all over again. I noticed that Sir Editor showed a pic of the cover art for SOMA and that made me cheer. Far too few people has played it.

Scariest game I ever played was P.T. Because it was not clear what kind of game it is for a long time. The tension builds but at some point I thought it is just a narrative game with creepy elements. The trigger for the jumpscare is made unintelligebale and I avoided it for so long without trying. Then, when the first jumpscare came I got shivers to the bones and was too scared to continue playing in fear of ecountering it again :D

Nobody likes Silent Hill 4 except me apparently, having the demons and ghosts in the safe places where its always safe no matter what there scared me more than any of the other games.
There's also the OG ps2 Fatal Frame games, you feel defenseless even though you can kinda fight back with a magic camera, but its not enough to make you feel safe like a god damn bazooka from RE.
Silent Hill 4 is a great game but it definitely doesn't hold up to the level of the first 3 imho. Silent Hill 2 story is incredibly deep and well thought + it's scary af

@@LucaBacile I 100% understand and agree really, its just that many games allow you to breath and give you safe zones that are 100% safe and can always escape to no matter what. Silent Hill The Room unlike other horror games (Also Fatal Frame 3 did it i think?) Said "Ya know what, Fuck you. **Unsafes your safe room** ), leaving you on edge the entire playthrough xD.
As a bonus, since there's scary shit happening in "The Room", you'll be afraid of demons popping up irl more than the other games xD never been too afraid to go to the bathroom? like when you were little after a horror game coz one ghost bitch popped up out of a vent once? Kinda like that xD

If he does reactions to horror stuff, SCP Overlord & Dollhouse are really good. They do atmospheric horror really well without relying on jumpscares.
PLEASE play Soma! (Thank you Mudan for including it in your recommendations) it came out in 2015 but I stillll think about that game… so good. It’s by Frictional Games, the same studio who did Amnesia which is an iconic horror game with such a cool story too.

A very old game called "forbidden siren" or "forbidden siren 2" are more of psychological terror than a real terror. You should try them.

You can have great horrors without jumpscares. Jumpscare is literally the cheapest cheesiest way to make a horror. Especially when it's not even scary. It's just loud as hell.
It’s fine in games for the most part. I think they actually work best in games cause there’s inherently redirection at play. Also immersion. And some movies can do it right, but the vast majority are of them don’t.
Take poppy playtime for example. The sheer tension of the vent chase is very scary.
I don't think they are always cheap.
@@ayayachon exactly! Atmoshpere and tension are two most valuable things in horrors. You don't need a scary png popping on screen for that. Even if it actually caughts you it's not THAT much of a jumpscare. And it's kinda more frustrating, than scary.
@@Aiden-hd8hw can they be put to good use? I guess so. But it's too hard to make them properly good for most of developers. So yeah. It's cheap crap that everybody use cause it takes zero to none effort to put it in. But infinitely harder to properly implement them. Nothing even comes to my mind when I think about good jumpscares. Maybe something from Layers of fear, but jumpscares there are the most weak part of the whole horror.

*FEAR* - jump scare, the FPS. (console perspective) controls are a bit janky for the first game and the gameplay was frustrating. not sure if the sequels did better.
*Cry of Fear* - a bit janky, pretty difficult, but a decently solid classic from what i've seen and heard.
*Call of Chthulu* - janky, but an acceptable classic from reviews and opinions that i went through.
*Penumbra* - i've seen interesting and fun videos of it, maybe the gameplay is also interesting and fun
*SOMA* - an honestly decent and solid one
