I Try Teaching Welsh to a VTuber

- We all know that learning languages is easy for me so I want to challenge myself and instead teach someone else a new language. That someone else is IronMouse and the language is debatably one of the hardest and coolest in the world, Welsh!

What we learned about Welsh in this video:.
*IT'S LIKE JAPANESE*
what I learned today is that mouse is Hella cute trying to speak welsh
Ah yes. The Welsh. The Japanese of the British isles π€£
Buy worse
What character is that in your PFP?
@Hayden D. Toa huh?
Connor teaching welsh: "it's like Japanese"
It's japanese without attitude
it has come full circle
Well it is at some point.
It got the lenation, nasalation etc
Kami -> ShiniGami
Gwir -> Wir
Tbh, Welsh isn't difficult until you got to speak it and got no saliva for Llyr
Well he would explain then hit us with *the line*
Another arc to add to Connor's protagonist ascension.
And Grant antagonist ascension
But garnt won...
@@sahanpslv2754 True. And I think the above comment puts it quite nicely.
@@kuro_f_x As he was always intended to
Connor's that antagonist that you start sympathizing with and then he becomes one of the protagonists.
Connor explaining anything about Welsh grammar: "It'S kInDa LiKe JaPaNeSe"
If ITS like Japanese then Connor can understand Japanese easily, right?
@@ilhamseptian1604 I mean he was talking about grammar and specific things. So I'm sure knowing the structures of Welsh helps, but at the end of the day it's still a totally different language
It's the one language he has as a reference

Spanish using the same word for handcuff and wife: π
Damn never noticed
Mis esposas son rotas.
the thing is, connor's spanish accent isn't bad at all...when he's actually trying π
Yeah, I was kinda taken aback.... But then he went about with the rest and I was like "I kinda don't think he stands a chance here in LatinoamΓ©rica π".
Still, better than I expected, though
The way he says manzanas kills me though
I wonder if all his practice for voice acting comes in handy at moments like this, his ear is pretty good.

Welsh and Old English (actual Old English, not the newer Shakespearean stuff that people call old English) actually have/had complex sounds. Not surprising at all that they could make similar sounds
In fact, Latin had a lexical influence on Old English, hence why many words in modern English still have Latin routes
00:44 what she ACTUALLY said was "this man is an idiot! dont support him, ever again! fucking shit! get out of here"
as a latino, i will admit that surprised me to hear her say that lol
thanks for the translation! I literally just scrolled until I found this

Waiting for the time when Connor writes 'Ironmouse' instead of 'a VTuber' in the titleπ
same
VTuber gets more hits on algorithm
lol
He probably doesn't write the titles himself xD
Probably won't happen. People who know Mouse will know he's doing something with her by the thumbnail alone. People who don't know Mouse probably know what a VTuber is, but don't have much experience with them, and that curiosity might get them to click, instead of just a name they don't recognize with no context.
If Connor succeeds in teaching her Welsh, he will have successfully doubled the number of Welsh speakers on the planet.
mouse be like: "this man is an idiot, I can't stand him, never again, f*ck this, get out"
Subs: Connor is the coolest dude
@Prajwal Yadav That sounds like an anime title.
Nono, the translator is also fluent in Tsunderish, so he's actually doing a double translation.
That castlevania meme really caught me off guard
I was going to be upset if they did not insert it at that prime moment, lol.

Lol. Yeah, but that's because she is puertorican. They don't roll the r's (they sound more like l's even), and the t's are soft. Even for native Spanish speakers it its kinda bothersome to understand them when first exposed to that accent.
@@JuanPerez-ol7pp and let's not forget chilean spanish, or whatever the fuck they talk in Chile
@@SenseiAgot LOL. Agreed, that should be considered a separate Spanish dialect, to say the least. How could they develop an accent and pronounciation so far from anything else?
@@JuanPerez-ol7pp plus we don't say "s" and "z." the surname "rodriguez" turns into "rodrigue" and "pastelillo" turns into "patelillo" lmao
@@antholojade Hahaha; right, that's also another peculiarity. Latin America is too big to have a unified-ish pronounciation anyway, so it is cool once your ear get use to it for a couple of minutes. Sucks for someone learning Spanish as a second language, though, lol.
At this point whenever we refer to the past of connor's channel we should call it pre meeting ironmouse and post meeting ironmouse ( I mean like rn its post meeting ironmouse and when he did black buttler content pre ironmouse )

English to Spanish is a million times easier than anything to Welsh
Not really. Welsh is a Germanic language. As a German speaker I saw some similarities
@@mastaw Welsh isn't Germanic, it's Brittonic. It's a very old Celtic language, far older than English or German. The most common ancestor Welsh has with German is Indo-European. Which means Welsh and German are as closely related as French is to Hindi
@@urgannagru9068 Alright, Today I learned lol
@@urgannagru9068 damn
Agreed, some Spanish looks and sounds similar to English words so its easier.
Welcome gamers
βJuan eres manzanasβ = βJuan you are applesβ
Thank you for this. So that's why mouse was laughing xD
Genuises will know that Welsh is a fucking HARDCORE language to speak, compared to most language
I'll eventually learn it more fluently.... I kinda regret growing up in an English speaking part of the country.
Just living in the country and having a bit of knowledge is like...... well, makes everything 100x easier. I've been teaching a friend who grew up in England just how to say place names.
I try not to laugh any time someone is lost and asks for directions and I can't understand them; gotta get them to show me the place because guaranteed it doesn't sound anything that came out of their mouths.
It IS hilarious when you get calls from big companies or the government and you 100% know they're not welsh.... and you happen to have a welsh street/town name. Legit my bank called me once and said 'look usually I'd read this out for you to confirm but I'm not even going to attempt that'.
@@misschieflolz1301 LOL
But at least you can handle the pronunciation well (I think). Everything else is easy to learn if you invest the time. Pronunciation is usually the hardest thing to master in any language. I like to think that my English vocabulary and grammar are pretty good, but I probably won't ever sound like a native. Oh well lol
@@mastaw Yeah, both my Dad and especially my late Grandad struggle with pronounciation and these are native english speakers, lived in Wales for 40+ years and... well Dad was always the better of the two and he can just about handle 'Llan' based place names.
I kinda get it though. That, along with 'ch' being the hardest sounds to master. Hard sounds with what will be very strange places in the mouth to create the sounds.
I'd say your English written is very good. Keep practising! Your verbal language will get better, you might not sound 100% native but you might pick up part of an acccent that will give you a very unique sound =)
What I learned from this vid:
1 - Mouse's avatar is lit. She makes me feel things that as a man who not too into Vtuber, I don't know I can feel.
2 - Connor and Mouse are in the relationship where they befriend each other, teach each other things and talk shit to each other (which I love)
3 - Welsh is Japanese of Europe
I'd love to see more Welsh content. It's a really cool language!
No trust meπ’
Connor teaching anything relating to Wales: "It's like Japanese"
TL;DR: Welsh is just Japanese with other words confirmed.
Welsh is the Japanese of the west π
@@kmk8284 true cuz it's only spoken in they one place and they're similar
My humor is beyond saving, I just laughed at Connor as a Cheeseburger
I regret trying to drink water when Connor's attempt at saying "I drink water" turned out as "I drink woman".
I really, really, do.
you should have drank woman instead of water
9:18 - to the editor, I love you, this is fucking perfect!
Connor trying to pronounce the burger sentence caught me way off guard and I'm so glad it did holy shit LOL
6:45
Connor: "You don't really say 'No'. The word itself... there's other words in it that say it for you."
Me: Sleepn't
This is the most wholesome thing, doing language exchange for their native language while speaking a secondary language.
Fun fact the welsh word for Hippopotamus translated into English is simply βWater Pigβ
The 2 words I see for Hippopotamus are 'Afonfarch' (river stallion) and 'Dwfrfarch' (water stallion)
And the word βHippopotamusβ is literally latin for βWater Hourseβ
@@mafiablokes I thought it was Greek for water horse
"River horse" from ancient Greek
I was hoping Connor would say Telemundo instead of Narcos. His monke brain would enjoy the energy
Now that I think about it, that makes sense
We need a part two of this but you guys should try learning a totally different language and compete on which one does it best.
Connor: I always hated articels in french
German: Pathetic
as a Welshman I now have an immense grudge against anyone who dislike this video
that's six to go on the hitlist
Connor: "It's like japanese"
Welsh being a VSO language: "excuse me"
I was about to ask that xD so it is VSO, damn that's kinda uncommon

That moment Hatsune Miku is the secret TRUE Mascot of Wales
I was honestly pretty impressed with Connor's pronunciation! It may be that japanese and spanish have very similar sounds, maybe knowing those made Connor avoid the typical English sounding pronunciation that native English speakers tend to have.
they do, don't they? just thinking of the vowel sounds...
Welsh and Spanish actually share almost identical vowel sounds, although the consonants in Welsh are quite different
