Lets be honest with ourselves. They beat the game. Most music duos or groups dont get a happy closing of the books. I fell in love with Daft Punk when I first heard Homework in the mid 1990's (I was MAYBE 10 at the time) and Discovery was the first album that I recall being giddy with anticipation prior to it's release. Daft Punk almost single handedly expanded my mind and heart with your music and, although you are gone, we still have your music and the memories to always think of you with a smile on our faces. Much like a close friend who has passed, you may not be here, but you are not gone. You live on in all of those who cherish the music you shared with the world.
A little over three years ago when Daft Punk announced their retirement I was away on a road trip with terrible reception. I received a single text from one of my best friends who knew I had no idea what happened: "Hey man, Daft Punk's split up." Two days later, he reached out to break the news that his cancer had returned. The following morning he slipped away into eternity... Reflecting on those dark times and re-watching this video, I can't shake the feeling that it was an omen of what was to come. Sometimes, it makes me feel like I'm the robot continuing the journey alone. Wherever you are, I hope you're home.
I still cry over this cause all their music have such a meaning for me, from my childhood to my present, each song special for a reason. Their music will never die and so those the memories that they have imbued in them yet again, thank you
I remember being 4 or 5, hearing One More Time for the first time on the radio. Then on CD. Learning of the group Daft Punk in my later adolescence and becoming almost obsessed; my first electronic group that I genuinely was aware of. Watching KRplus videos of Alive 2007 and swearing to go to one of their concerts in my lifetime from then. Any music library I had, be it physical or digital, included Daft Punk to some degree. Even their music that I wasn't particularly a fan of, I still enjoyed. I held off from watching this for two years, and finally I witness the end. I won't lie, it brought a tear to my eye. But gods be damned if I'm not thankful to have known of their existence in my life. Daft Punk will forever take residence in my life, and when my partner and I have kids I'll introduce them to one of the best music groups of all time. Daft Punk helped form the adult I am today, and for that I'm grateful. Thank you Thomas Bangalter, and thank you Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo; you guys changed my life. Also, thank you anybody who stuck around through this rambling. You earn my respect.
your childhood friend dies*, is gone forever and you keep in mind all the good memories but at first cries a lot remembering but with the time you'll recover and keep those memories with joy.

Still no music like any other. Their music is timeless. Always sounds modern. Never boring, never dull. I think I commented about this before, but what an incredible way to capture emotion for the end of something. The repeat of the explosion really emphasised how locked in this decision is :(

I am so happy to be able to say that I was around for the beginning and the end.
I was born in 1993 as well. And they stopped 5 days after my Birthday.
Groundbreaking duo. They never took a back step. I agree with multiple comments that they quit on top & on their own terms together. Not ego driven, Not money driven. They never have anything else to prove to the music industry.
What a legendary way to disband.
And this seemingly leaves no room for even a reunion.

Thats a crazy Story bro. When i hear daft punk now i will always have your Story in my mind❤
I love how THIS is their announcement to the world that they’re saying goodbye. No words. Just art. It’s absolutely beautiful.

I honestly think they're gonna come back and make more music in the future. It's only a matter of when

4 studio albums in 28 years. You weren’t around often, but when you were, you were fantastic. Thank you
Also the fact that they barely toured. So sad
thats what makes them special, unique & iconic. no interviews, almost no shows at all, they release an album they disappear, they win grammy's they annouce another one, they win again they disappear and it happens all over again without them saying a single word. and the whole world talks about them, legends.
So they also didn't pass the Gene Simmons barrier.
Yes

What a great track to tie up a phenomenal legacy
Still no music like any other. Their music is timeless. Always sounds modern. Never boring, never dull. I think I commented about this before, but what an incredible way to capture emotion for the end of something. The repeat of the explosion really emphasised how locked in this decision is :(

Damn 28 years. I remember seeing them for the first time on MTV "Around the World", probably how most of their fan base discovered them. I was a kid with our old-fashioned square TV in middle school. We saw them with the birth of EDM and to the point where EDM became mainstream. If modern dance music had founders, they were Daft Punk.
I wish I could've seen you guys live.. I was too young in 1997, too broke in 2007, prayed for a 2017 tour that never happened.. but I understand
