Congrats Daniel!!! Very few indie authors ever see this kind of success from their very first book launch, especially for a novella. You've shown how powerful it is to build your audience before you publish. It also didn't hurt that you took the time to do it right, and to produce a professional looking product.
As far as categories go, you get into a lot of categories via keywords. KDP has a page that lists all of the keywords that will get you into which category. So, if you used keywords for the dark horror genre, that's why you're there. Also, Amazon updates its rank every hour, so that's why it changes a lot. :)
