The man who wrote one of the greatest guitar solos at a young age has outdone himself at 70+ yrs of age. How on earth did David Gilmour play it so well. This is even better than the original. Thank you for this great piece of music David. You are my favourite guitarist of all time and forever will be. No one does more with 4 notes on a guitar than you do. One of the greatest rock bands of all time.
My dad passed away in 2016, he was 67 years old. He was a huge fan of Pink Floyd since the early 70's. When Roger Waters appeared live here in Greece in 2013 I was begging him to come with me to the concert, he told me "we'll go next time". I ended up not going myself so as to go with him next time. Some days before his passing we listened to the whole shine on you crazy diamond record with a glass of scotch, talking, laughing, living the moment. I was 21 years old at the time, second year at my university, my whole life ahead of me as he was saying. Now, when I listen to their songs, some times I smile and trip off to their music, and some times I get torn apart. Today is one of these latter times. I love you dad and I miss you, this song will be always for you.
What a beautiful, heart-felt post to share with all of us Kazuhiras. The power of music still amazes me and I am turning 60. Everytime I hear "Wish You Were Here" I get torn apart thinking about my dad, mom, grandparents and others who are gone, and never coming back. It's sad, it hurts, but it is also beautiful and authentic way to keep them in our hearts.

I saw this concert live in 1974. Still in my memory and same vibration except the sound that was very Loud and impressive. I remember David Gilmour as mobile as a statue... I'll never forget that concert. It was the full album 'Dark side of the moon'....magic !

David Gilmour and his guitar on Comfortably numb, says it all, I'm 82 now and it still knocks me into an emotional storm. .. thank you for this amazing experience, David Gilmour greatest guitar player ever.
Nobody can bend a note like David. It’s the little things, the subtle things. He’s all feel, emotive heart running through his hands. And it sets him apart from all the guys who can play a million notes a minute… but say nothing, mean nothing, make you feel nothing. David can break your heart with a single note, them redeem your soul with the next one.
I love the fact that he plays in a black t shirt and jean pants more or less. The music is the show not the costumes. Brilliant David, absolutely brilliant music!
I am now 64 and they have been part of my life for 50 years, never a week passes without one or more albums being played and never a week when a tear does not fall, just so lucky to be in the presence of genius for so long. Thank you David, you will never know the impact you and the band have had on so many for so long in so many ways - all positive.
This song man. We've been through so much together. Imagine a 19 year old kid who lost his car, had to decide between eating turkey sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or buying a pack of smokes for the week until payday hit. This song was there for me in that time. walking to bus stops in several inches of snow in the Colorado streets, sitting on my bus with darkness outside the window. This song was there for that. Every note just brought me back, and even though it was a "dark time" I look back on it with fondness, and warmth
David, if you read this, you've been such an inspiration to me. The world may say others are best, faster, younger, but to me, you are the single greatest guitarist to ever pick up the guitar.
@@justaguy5947 super ignorant brother, you don't have to choose that energy brother... This song was wayyy ahead of it's time. This song speaks in a million tones til this very day. This song is definitely a timeless masterpiece. Also, almost every song ever made can have one person play it these days... Doesn't take skill, but the imagination and creativity they put into creating this song, was genius. Major kudos and credit well earned in my opinion. Very artistic. High vibrational frequency in a very artisticly pschedilic manifold. When people listened to this when they finally released it in September of 1975, they couldn't believe their ears, they were tuning into the future it's probably seemed to them 😂. They spent 7 months recording and editing this sound and even after those 7 months, they didn't release is until September, which was another 2 months of probably perfecting and "EXPERIMENTING" which is what Pink Floyd was all about and made them so legendary
My dad is a Pink Floyd's fan, he made me one as well. Lots years had past, and nowadays my little daughter is on the way to become one. This music is eternal
I am moved to tears with every Pink Floyd song I listen to. Every song touches my soul and takes me back to happier times, times as a young child wearing my dads big earphones and being taken away to places I never dreamed possible. My dad toured many of your gigs and worshipped you Floyd, his Impeccable taste passed on to his children and grandchildren. My first Engagement cake had the dark side of the moon cover on it from my dad. We lost dad during the first wave of COVID, the service was an allotted time slot of just 10 minutes, there were No words so instead we had two Floyd tracks speak for us, we chose Comfortably numb and Time but this song is my dad all over 🙌🏻🌈💎❤️🔥💔
Absolutely outstanding I've been listening to pink flyod since I was al little child as my dad would always have then on and am 49 and still listen to them all the time takes me another place helps my mind relax I get goosebumps evrerytime I here them definitely in top 3 bands of all time ⏲️ 💙 ❤️ 💗 💖
It's really something when a song becomes so personal to so many individuals. When it becomes ingrained and becomes a trigger for emotions and memories. Every note ignites a neuron and carries you further away from the mundane. I pity those who do not have music like this in their life.
I was introduced to Pink Floyd in high school by this rocker pothead kid who was always slacking and getting high at lunch. I was kinda scared of him, being a super nerdy girl and all, but he played Pink Floyd on the bus ride home and my mind just exploded. So yeah, I hope he’s still alive somewhere. Thanks, pothead kid from high school.👍🏻
Sim, perdeu um pouco do agudo mas ele ainda tem bastante força. Ele cantou "Us and Them" durante essa turnê e dava para ver que ele usava toda a potência vocal que ele tem para chegar nas notas mais altas.
who needs crazy useless dance moves and gimmicks when you have class like this - absolute genius and brilliance - what a legend ... thanks for everything Floyd
In mean, they have to move and look, how they feel. Other things - like scripting the Moves of Billy Idol Chicago 2006 or 7 is scary bad - are like showing open to have no Balls. I HATE that
When someone asked Eric Clapton what it was like to be considered the best guitarist ever, his reply "I don't know, ask David Gilmour" Shine on Mr Gilmour
We can argue this to the end of time...... David Gilmour. Eric Clapton. Rory Gallagher. Jimmy Page..... And that's just the Brits.... (No offense to you Irish)...... BUT if you put the argument on another level...bringing in the vocals.... It's a whole new ball game, isn't it? In that respect: Clapton nails it for me, his guitar & vocals with Cream. Nothing comes close. That's my view. Good health to you all.
My parents played this during a camping trip when I was about 9 years old and it made me feel things on levels I didn't understand. This has always been one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs.

Your music is a boundless symphony that resonates within the deepest realms of our souls. Like a celestial voyage, you have crafted melodies that sweep us away on a cosmic odyssey, transcending time and space. With every strum of your guitar strings and every ethereal note that floats from your fingertips, you have painted breathtaking landscapes of sound, revealing the infinite dimensions of human emotion. From the moment the first chords of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" echo through the air, we are captivated by your ability to weave intricate tapestries of sonic enchantment. Your ethereal lyrics and haunting harmonies have the power to transport us to distant galaxies, where our spirits soar alongside the celestial bodies. ❤

Music is an important part of our lives , It gives us happiness and sadness , it will remain as we will not , memories are priceless and bring a smile as we remember those we love who have passed and what they loved as we will because they did , I know what I mean but I hope you do . Love to you .

I saw this concert live in 1974. Still in my memory and same vibration except the sound that was very Loud and impressive. I remember David Gilmour as mobile as a statue... I'll never forget that concert. It was the full album 'Dark side of the moon'....magic !
People will still be playing Pink Floyd in a hundred years.True music never dies it only grows Old.🌹

If this is self isolation, then I can’t get enough! I’ve loved Pink Floyd since I was 14 ......I’m now 64. They are timeless .

I've loved them since I was 11 ("The Division Bell")...and I'm now 36. Timeless, oh yes.

I’m tempted to say “what a beautiful song” but it would be wrong. This song is much, much more than beautiful, for me. Is magic, is dream, is soul and balance.
It’s blessing for my temper and mood.

Wow !!!!!!!!
I really like how David's voice aged. It still feels powerful, just more gritty and raw. And he still hit all his notes, of course.
My Dad would be 91 now, he died when he was 72... his wish was to play this music at his funeral...

David Gilmour has more feeling in his little finger than most bands have over their entire lifetime. This song is timeless.
Just listening to this after 'Stairway to heaven', another classic of the same era. They just don't get any better.

And it sets him apart from all the guys who can play a million notes a minute… but say nothing, mean nothing, make you feel nothing.
Loved your comment ❤
And I bet things got better from there….been there
Now that is the power of music. Music is there for us when nothing else is.
It's our darkest moments we remember with fondness the most because they made us who we are today.
Hope things got easier. I know we probably felt so mature and old at 18 or 19, but little did we know about the world! And yes..this song, man!
