So my family is decently wealthy, and my ‘friends’ used to ask me to pay for everything as “I’m rich” but I’d never fail to remind them: my parents are rich, I’m a broke af squatter living there.

As someone who grew up in poverty, people like this make me feel so lowly and inadequate ✌️😢

Okay I'm just here, at 4 in the morning, watching Daz, minding my own business, and my action figure just decides to fall and scare the living daylights out of me. I straight up almost had a heart attack

I'm not exactly from a broke family, but my parents aren't particulary rich either. I remember this girl in my Primary school came from a very wealthy family and instantly became popular because of it. Everyone wanted to be her friend, even me, and i sat on the same table as her for my lessons. So we became really good friends and one day i ask her if she would want to come to my house for my upcoming birthday sleepover. She said yes and the day of the sleepover, her mum dropped her off and as i opened the door, her jaw litterally dropped at the fact i lived in this little 3 bedroom house. She was clearly disgusted at my house and did a horrible job of showing it. When my mum left the room and went downstairs, she leant over and said, "You live in this little shack?" and literally laughed in my face. She was horrible for the rest of the night but i didn't want to tell my mum so as soon as she left the next morning i ran upstairs and burst into tears. From that day on, I was so ashamed of my family and my house, and it didn't help that the girl had told everyone at school about it and everyone had given me the nickname, "Pennies". (y'know because that would be the only form of money my family had because im so poor) and i swore that if i ever became rich, i would only use it for good and not make fun of anyone who was poorer than me, and instead share it with them.
