Of all the shows of Dead and Company this is my favorite. All of it, but especially from St Stephen to Drum/Space. I've watched to this concert many times. Another recommendation is Lakewood from Milestones to Knocking on Heaven's Door.
Dude this is one of the greatest dead and co shows ive seen.

Man, a gorgeous version of one my favs, Peggy-O, just sublime, emotional and heartfelt solo by JM here...the tribute he pays to the core of the song is just powerful, so emotive :)

Eugene Ax hey man you gotta check out their sugaree from Dallas Texas last summer. I really think youโll like it. Im not saying itโs โbetterโ Iโll let you be the judge, but itโs definitely really really good. You can just type in Wild Sugaree. Much love brother

Kacy Kent haha thatโs awesome! It is unreal how much energy there is in the entire song but definitely once it peaks. I was lucky enough to have been there for it. 100 plus degrees in the lot that day and still really hot until the sun went down. IMO it didnโt hold the boys back one bit. That was prob a crass way of sayin it...so apologies and no disrespect to Mayer.
I say that just because IMHO, Mayer as a person could not be more polar opposite to Jerry, the man who so many of those songs were written by Hunter to describe. Jerry lived within, embodied and inhabited those songs, they were literal facets of his complex personality. He was Jack Jones, August West, St.Stephen and the Dark Star! He grew up orphaned when his father drowned in front of him as a child, and grew up in the gritty streets of post world war 2 San Francisco. Jerry was a very weathered road dog and walked with some serious โstreet credโ- if you get my drift.
Mayer on the other hand is obviously a brilliantly astute and gifted guitar player, obviously-but his personality, his pop star super wealthy upper percenter lifestyle, his total lack of interest or familiarity with the GD over the last 40 years prior to him getting tapped for this band. Itโs like he hasnโt โlivedโ and โloved and lostโ enough to convincingly sing me those songs. Heโs talented but incredibly privileged and spoiled by his early fame and wealth. Profoundly more materialistic and luxury minded than Garcia by a long yard.
Also apart from Meyer and what be brings or doesnโt bring to the table, it should be known that this band has zero actual lineage to the GD aside from the three members and the songbook and was literally assembled by huge music biz execs as a ticket selling powerhouse. All the crew are contracted out. Itโs a very mainstream music money making corporation.
I also personally canโt hear in Mayerโs guitar work even a distant hint all of that ineffable psychedelic crackling multi dimensional energy that was Garciaโs unmistakable signature. Only a true forged in fire psychedelic pioneer of the outer frontiers of mind could channel
such mysteries and energy through his guitar strings to fill the hall as sound. And If Jerry was anything more than a musician, he was certainly that. Meyers got a lot of flash and can dazzle with speed, etc. but his licks have never given me a view of the 5th dimension while flooding me with emotions so strong and beautiful and complex that I am laughing and crying at the same time. Garcia did that at least once a song.
Thatโs just me and I will say I am not speaking to take any ones joy their finding in Dead and Co away. Iโm so so happy, genuinely for all of you who now have this experience. Cheers to you
