So many people complained about Randy's death, the series never had the balls to kill a core character again.
Totally agree. It's a bold kill, but it was necessary to keep the movie grounded. None of the other sequels had the guts like Scream 2 did

Randy should've been the killer in Scream 2. I feel like that was a huge missed opportunity. It could've turned out he was helping them in part 1, but when he got betrayed the secret died with the original 2 killers. His lust and denial for Sidney could've made him want to continue the original plan (movie). It could've been great.

Nothing beats the first. It had real humor that's missing in other films. Stu and Randy were funny characters.

I love that the original cast survived the fourth movie and killed almost the entire new cast, it goes perfectly with Sydney’s line “Don’t fuck with the original”, you can remake movies all you want but at the end of the day it’s the originals that will stand the test of time, it’s the perfect metaphor even if it is unintentional
Cept for the Thing, where the 82 remake is the timeless one while the og has aged like milk.
Lots of remakes are more popular then the og. Especially stuff from before the 70s. Also "Don't fuck with the orginal" was more about rewriting the old story with retcons not killing legacy characters.

While 4 had it's problems, Jill is hands down my favorite Ghostface. Fame and fortune is a surprisingly uncommon horror movie motivation, despite it being one of the most realistic.
True but i still feel the 4th is the most forgettable one, i love the 1st and the 3rd, what i didn't know was the killer in Scream 3, Roman, was the overarching antagonist of the movie. He corrupted Billy Loomis into starting a killing spree along with his friend, Stu Macher.
Maureen Prescott was raped by the producer John Milton and his gang while acting as a B movie actress and she gave birth to Roman. She abandoned him causing him to fend for himself in Hollywood. Roman wanted revenge and believed that he should have all the fame that Sidney had. So he had revenge and wanted fame as well, just like Jill, but i feel his backstory is way deeper then Jill just being a teenager who's jealous of her cousin.
Basic 👱♀️ motivation. Very on nose. Lol before I even saw it I assumed Emma Roberts was a killer because I looked at cast and I'm like who needs a career boost/change. Hayden had tried already w teen stuff and failed. I'm like hmmm Emma just left nick so odds are her. And YUP.

I mean that it felt like an horror, it made me feel uncomfortable and scared in a way, and I'm sad that the ending felt like an poorly adapted video game, at least for me, they should have really get skarsgard more scenes like with the Little girl during the baseball game and not so much CGI

Plus fact neve had always said nope not without wes and she was the very last to sign on and a couple meetings and reading the script. I have hope esp after seeing the trailer just released. Because articles like it gonna be good because ready or not and I'm like that film was weak tho...i expect 1 of the 3 to die obv and the torch to be handed over. I HOPE they can tie up the whole Prescott/Loomis story tho by end. So new stories be untied to Sidney. Unless they..omg..which be fine if she the second to last kill and there is weight to it...won't like kt but can accept it..tho tbh I hope of 1 of the 3 ots Gail because unexpected vs Dewey. Dewey always been brutally stabbed and like omg he did survive. Gail always gets cornered and last minute gets away untouched. Only exception to both rules is 4. But I'm like gtfo of here w that. Tho I get Dewey too because least deleveloped over entire series

I was reading why 3 sucked so much and it had several things going on against it. Neve had a busy work schedule because of her show so why she was limited in film. Plus columbine just happened so the movie censors were hardcore on cutting blood gore etc. Then yes was rewrites etc but there were other versions and I'm like bruhh...that's the best one compared to some

To be honest... I like all the Scream movies. Even Scream 3. Sure, I think it's stupid and by far the weakest, but still not terrible. And I think Scream 2 and 4 are some of the greatest sequels to a film ever, and that the original Scream is one of the greatest horror movies of all time. Plus, it's my favourite horror movie of all time
Yeah, Billy and Stu are definitely the best killers. I also feel they along with Jill and MAYBE Mrs. Loomis are the ones who actually still felt scary after being unmasked. Roman was just whiny, Mickey was dull, save for his blame the movies speech but that wasn't scary, and Charlie was just a "Nice Guy" who totally should have seen Jill killing him coming.
Mrs. Loomis I'm on the fence with, Laurie Metcalf definitely pulled off the crazy, and she might be an even smarter killer then Billy, but when she's being defeated by foam boulders he's definitely losing some of her scare factor.
Jill I found freaking chilling. Especially when it really felt like she'd won. She was probably the most heartless of the killers, clearly feeling nothing for anyone, Billy, Roman and Mrs Loomis were motivated by revenge, Charlie was motivated by having no spine, Stu was just crazy and having fun, But Jill was empty, pretty chilling.
But of course the best has to go to Billy and Stu as a pair. the reveal was handled perfectly, their taunting of Sydney in the kitchen made them feel really dangerous, with the stabbing sequence showing just how unhinged they were. and the final chase around the house was a really tense game of cat and mouse.

If you watch Scream, notice Stu's interactions with Billy. Like it's said in this, he's got some type of infatuation/love with Billy. This leaves the gay survivor stereotype in Scream 4 with no basis, I think.
To me Charlie's whole "To survive a modern horror film you have to be gay" thing was just something he said knowing Robbie would be dumb enough to believe it. Charlie stabbed him anyway both because he knew Robbie was straight and fancied both Olivia and Gale and because that "rule" wasn't a thing. Even if Robbie had been gay Charlie would still have killed him.

I wouldn't mind a 5cream. Just depends on who they got to director. They bring in somebody like James Wann (Saw, Conjuring, Insidious, Aquaman) Fede Alaverz (Evil Dead 2013, Don't Breath) Alexander Aja (The Hills Have Eyes (2006) or go old school with John Carpenter. That would get my interest. At the very least I would like to read Kevin Williamson's treatments for Scream 5 and 6

I agree. I think it would be interesting to see Gale and Dewey working together again. For once, not married, just partners in the investigation. Kirby could be the “Rey” of the new movie, with the OGs like Luke, Han, and Leia. Also, we could get some amazing gore. Tbh, I wish I could work on a horror movie. Acting is amazing, and I have a hell of a lot ideas for kills.

@ Jay West - No, it should end at _Scream 6_ . _Scream 4_ was meant to be the start of a new trilogy, and that's what should happen. The second trilogy should be finished. Making the second story arc a duology would make it feel too short.

Ya know, as much as the cafeteria scene felt both unlikely to happen and uncomfortable to watch, I think I like that Scream 2 includes it; purely for the fact that without it, I think I would have kinda forgotten about/ not cared as much about Derek.
It was goofy and weird for them to put in but it did strangely endear me to the guy.
I remember when I was younger that scene where Ghostface chase Gale in those weird corridor before she locked herself was stressful to me, even tho it wasn't a long scene it was still making me uneasy

I had a hunch that Scream 3 would be the lowest on the list. The only thing I liked about it was seeing Carrie Fischer and seeing Randy one last time even though it was "beyond the grave". I hate the voice changer thing just as much as James does, but I hated the pulse thing even more. It makes absolutely no sense at all how Roman had no pulse when Gail checked it and ended up being the killer.
It would be so, so easy to just have her see the body and stagger backwards without checking the pulse. You've just discovered a body, it's a reasonable reaction. Just take those two seconds out and the plothole is gone. It really makes no sense that they'd put that in there and yet still use him as the killer.
Maybe she just doesn’t know how to check a pulse and since she didn’t feel anything she assumed he’s dead

TheHearseMn That's what I assumed when I watched it. It's amazing how many people can't find a pulse when they are checking for one (hence why untrained people are told to check for breathing instead of a pulse). So I can forgive that one, although I think I hated the explosion kill even more than James did. Loved the Warburton (spelling?) cameo though.

Finally! Scream 4 is getting the recognition it deserves. It worked so well for the time period it was set in and the meta sub plots were entertaining.
I enjoyed the original Scream a lot, and I totally would've put it as number one of the series. But when you jokingly put it at the bottom, I was about to go all out on you, James...

I think next month may give us another exception... But really it makes sense. The movies which are the most likely to get sequels are the good ones, or the ones which stand out for some reason. For the ones that stand out by the second movie the original idea has worn off for the audience and won't deliver like the first time. For the good ones there are many reasons why the sequel only has a very small chance of being better. I started to type them out but this comment was gonna read like a thesis.

*_Scream 4_* - more kills, very pretty Hayden Panettiere & Marielle Jaffe, I even solved Jill and/or Charlie/Robbie as Ghostface with Emma Roberts playing initially curious, sweet and innocent estranged cousin of Sidney's before turning into an amazing enviously evil villainess role in the end even cleverly framing her boyfriend Trevor who was red herring and main suspect and betraying sidekick Charlie as his accomplice. It was Wes Craven's last directed film before his death but pure masterpiece
*_Scream_* - One of the best horror movies of the 90s, iconic horror movie opening with Drew Barrymore, Billy and Stu classic Ghostface killers, not much kills though to sequels yet Tatum's death with garage door was ridiculous and memorable and Stu's literally *_shocking_* death with television 😂
*_Scream 2_* - Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox most pretty appearance, yet Gale's precious Dewey survives again, 😒?! Rebecca Gayheart (seen her in Urban Legend) appears yet not a long role. Mickey reveal and motivation is lame as Billy & Stu, Mrs Loomis certainly gave straight Pamela Voorhees yet only killed Randy (his death just unfortunate). That singing scene in cafeteria was 🙉🙄
*_Scream 3_* - Undoubtedly the worst. Roman sole killer yet faked his death terribly off-screen, focusing deeper on protagonist Sidney's family history, Dewey and Gale 😒👎🏼, voice changers making red herrings, of course, maybe because, screenwriter Ehren Kruger replaced Kevin Williamson

I've loved the scream series since they first came out and if you actually pay attention Stu is the most craziest killer out of the rest. All of them had a true and serious motive for killing but Stu jokes say " peer pressure I'm far too sensitive" he never gives a real reason. So I feel he just wanted to kill people.

For those who don't know, Scream 4 was released in 2011, 15 years after Scream 1. Early this year, Blumhouse Productions is interested in reviving the film series and that studio Jason Blum was working on making the rest of the second trilogy.
Everyone has their own opinions/views - Respect! :)
Here is mine:
1). Scream 2 (primarily for the sound studio and the car scenes - pure suspense!)
2). Scream (classic)
3). Scream 3 (I liked it, several decent thriller scenes)
4). Scream 4 (it was more of a comedy rather than a serious thriller, and predictable)
But that's just my humble opinion

I would swap 4 with 3 but other then that I agree. I think scream 1 is a brilliant movie but in my opinion the second one is better overall.Think about this: You have the opening scene, then the cici scene, then sidney gets attacked, then randy dies, gale and dewey get chased and dewey almost died, then comes the car scene and after that we are already at the killer reveal. Its just non-stop suspense. And then a nice plot twist with the second killer.

Scream is my favorite movie and I remember when I first saw it at 14, I was shocked by the ending. I watched the live Scream cast reunion the other day and it was awesome to see everyone together again! Courtney wasn't there, but the rest of the crew was. Such a classic. I can watch it over and over and it never gets old.

After watching Scream 5, it's nice coming back to this. Scream 5 was awesome.
Imo the Jay and Silent Bob cameo are actually a PLUS for Scream 3.

Pertaining to Scream 4, being from the Ann Arbor area it definitely felt weird to see locations I grew up around used as Woodsboro, but it felt off for other reasons too. Maybe it was due to the fact Scream 3 took place in Hollywood and it felt weird to return to Woodsboro? Im not sure, but I would be interested in hearing more from you on the topic if possible. Scream is my favorite "scary movie" franchise and I couldn't' agree with your rankings any more. I found your channel recently and you have quickly turned into one of my favorite creators on the site. Just wanted to say keep it up and Go Blue! Also Randy is the best character in the franchise without a doubt. I was so happy they worked a way for him into the plot of Scream 3. And the gay people don't die in modern horror movies was just absolutely out of left field and probably the most bizarre thing about the franchise next to the god-like voice changer.

Came out in 1999/2000-ish after he had Jack come out on Dawson's Creek which he was the showrunner of before leaving at the end of Season 2 at which point the show as taken over by Greg Berlanti better know for Arrowverse series of shows. (Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Black Lightening)
