So Korea now exports Tanks, IFVs (Redback is my favorite of all), Artillery, Warships, Choppers, Guns, Jets (already exporting other models) and now to Stealth.. just wow. Love Korea.

Unfortunately, no real. Blocks are only development level to go A completed air fighter(G4.5).
B1 air to air attack, B2 air to ground and B3 totally completed airforce fighter.
Yes, block3 will show inner weapon vessel, which means 5th Generation. Or block2 may have inner weapon vessel. The two plans have not been confirmed yet which to choose.
I could see the US looking to order some of the Block 3 fighters to fill in the gaps left by the early cancellation of the f-22 and f-15 SE (Silent Eagle), depending of course on how the US 6th generation fighter program goes. Either way two aircraft will outlive them all, the B-52 and the A-10, pretty planes come and go, but ugly planes with large payloads are eternal.
That BL3 isn't really realistic.

South Korea has sixth strongest military in the world as of 2021, and despite, country doesn't have lots of natural resources, and small country with 51 million population, but very high education, best public transportation system. Also home to some of well known companies such as Samsung, LG, Kia, Hyundai, Posco...etc. The prototype of this next fighter will be revealed in 2022. Supposedly, very high tech designed fighter.
April 2021. It will have it maiden flight in 2022.
That said, South Korea faces a threat from China. South Korea's biggest weakness is that more than half it's GDP relies on 3 Chaebols: Samsung, Hyundai and LG - all of which whose dominance will be challenged and perhaps replaced by China. Once they go, South Korea is in for some bad times. Very much like Japan :/

Hi, as a korean and aircraft maintenance, i want to tell you some fact.
1. Kfx is not 5th gen fighter. It is 4.x gen fighter. My thought, korea’s aviation tech is still fall behind compare to other country. (Before kfx, our tech level is in 70’s) research of kfx is kind of ‘step’ to next gen.
2. So best meaning of kfx research is, we made AESA radar and some advanced in electronic. And little knowledge of stealth tech.
3. Actually f35 is good choice for s.korea. N.korea has nuclear, and china making stealth jet, japan got a nice fleet on ocean. So korea need strategic stealth fighter. I think this development is essential.
4. As you can see in this video, kfx cant compare to f22. Guys, f22 is ailen tech! haha. There is still no aircraft can compare to f22. (Maybe f18 growler can?)
Ahh, plus, in assemble, aircraft color is green. It is not meaning composite material. (Of course it is composite). Green color is kind of anti-corrosion&oxidant paint. Prevention of lust before assemble.

Some people criticize this project as a waste of money. When you are surrounded by threatening neighbors, it is vital for Korea to possess the ability and knowledge to design and build high tech weapons systems. The KFX is just the first step and there will be many more developments in the future. Self-reliance is a must and Korea cannot rely on other countries to supply weapons. No, it's not a waste of money when your survival is at stake.

The purpose of this project is not to build a full stealth fighter. This is the 4.5th generation fighter that is currently being developed to replace the aging F-4/5 fighter jets of the Korean Air Force.
Although the development plan says it will be upgraded to a fifth-generation fighter in the future, we understand that the fighter is being developed as a 4.5-generation fighter and that the fifth-generation fighter will be purchased from the United States.
that because Koreans don't want to give up their ground attacking capability of a jetfighter. it's kind of multirole fighter. they want to put their any kind of ground attack missiles or bombs as much as a fighter can. that is another explanation of why they choose multi engines. The cost of their decision is less stealthy than 5th fighters. China can atteck South Korea with nuclear misslies but South Korean can attack Chinese nuclear power plant with their conventional missilles. it may give the power balance in the North east asia region.

Korea has indigenously developed about 70% of the required technologies for KF-X including key components such as AESA radar, EO TGP, IRST, and RF JAMMER.
It wasn’t designed, built, funded, or equipped on its own. Indonesia is helping fund this project.The AESA radar also involved foreign firms such as Elta Systems, Leonardo, and Saab. The engine was built by GE and the design and other tech consultation involved Lockheed Martin. Also, South Korea received multiple tech transfers from the US.

A bit of a Niche aircraft, and I think they should have kept the philopshy "an F-16 equal fighter operatable from a truck, a tanker, and a straight piece of road" and have that lucrative price tag, but now they are just a more expensive version of the F-16 :-/ However Saab and Bofors are both largely Swedish, and were purely when they made most of their advancements. They now have some British collaboration, but headquartered in Sweden. Of course, when they were even smaller (about 5 million) they developed the Viggen fighter O.o

2020 South Korea is 6th strongest armed forces in the world( jumped from 9 to 6 within 2 years) , and a new KFX program, building aircraft ships, possibly a nuclear submarine, one of the most technologically advanced nations in the world, has very high economy as well.
I want to say that as a person who has served in the military in Korea, this project must succeed.
Korea has uncomfortable neighbors who are not friendly and have strong national power. Korea must continue to strengthen its military power to protect its influence in future relations with neighboring countries.
Especially, as China's military threats and their tyranny get worse day by day, Korea has no choice but to develop its own strength.
We have a strong ally, the U.S., but we will continue to develop our technical capabilities because we know that Korea will not be able to rely on the U.S.
Relying on USA is like relying on a sleeping dog to save you from a killer.
Imagine if both Korea's were united.. one is armed with nuclear weapons and other is highly advanced and filled with tech giants.

A couple of things wrong from the start. The reason Korea wants its own jet fighter is not just because of NK and China but also Japan as well. Furthermore Korea wants to maintain its own domestic arms industry instead of just subsidizing foreign ones like the US.
The KFX is not a 5th generation aircraft program, its meant to be 4.5++ gen. It neither has an internal weapons bay or radar absorbent materials to reduce its RCS. The only stealth the KFX has are stealth geometric construction methods and a recessed weapon hardpoints. Its more of a F-15SE than a F-22 and even then it doesn't have the conformal weapons pods that the F-15SE was suppose to have.
KAI has tried to partner with US companies to produce AESA, EW and IRST but have been rebuffed as they didn't want to share sensitive technologies. Instead Korea themselves developed these technologies domestically.

But was still a recipient of multiple US tech transfers. Just remember that Lockheed Martin has the know-how and that’s why they’re playing a big part in this project. Also, GE made the jet engine.

KOK and Japan are just like that, and moreover the US would not please if Korea try to develop fighter jet engines. The KTX project has 65% ratio of self developed technology levels.

I hope KFX would be a reasonable alternative of F-35 for developing countries which can not afford maintenance cost of it but eager to have 5 generation fighter.
It's no alternative for F-35, hence Korea buying F-35 too... KF-21 is made to replace outdated F-4 and F-5. The US will have the same issue at one point. What do you replace F-16's with, in a few decades? You can only upgrade it so far, and you will need a cheap aircraft. And we know the US NGAD will be wildly expensive, with atleast ~$200 million each.
KF-21 can't land on carriers (not entirely sure about that, but it's not VTOL thats for sure) and isn't fully stealth either, so that's already two selling points in favor of the F-35. But as i said, it's not designed to be an F-35 alternative.

If F-22 and F-35 had a baby = KF-X
KF-X is a semi-stealth 4.5 Gen fighter, not yet a 5th gen stealth.
So sadly, it is not like the F22 and though its a multirole/aerial combat fighter, we can't outrun the F22.
I wonder that we can reach a point that we can reach 4.6~7.
@@PureWater_MW_Korea Korea is producing KFX in an evolutionary way to minimize the risk of development. So, KFX will be developed until blocks 1-2-3.
KFX will go to Block 3 and become a real stealth machine.
We are well aware that Korea has not yet reached the state-of-the-art technology of the United States.

Air superiority is achieved through many different types of aircraft and ground forces - none of which SK can do alone in the next ten years over the course of an entire conflict the way the nations ahead of them can.
Folks, you must know that this is one of Korea's earliest attempts at designing military aircrafts. Of course KFX isn't going to beat F-22 or SU-30. Not even close. However, with this experience under their belt, hopefully their next gen design may have a chance at competing against the Raptors of the world.

Problem is.. government is funding KAI and making it look like KFX is essential for the air defense. We already have air superiority against NK and F-4 should be more than enough. And if ROKAF is so concerned about air defense, they should get involved with the joint development of the 6th gen fighters. KFX is obviously intended for KAI's commercial purposes. Sure ROK should have a strong avionics and weapons sysyem. But why are the tax payers paying for its development? With 7bn dollars, we should be building more subs.

SK has done impressive job indeed,but it will be interesting to see how much time they take to build block 2 which will be pure stealth,AMCA will fly by 2026 guaranteed which will direct have 5th gen capabilities.
Also cost will be another factor,they took i guess 10 billion dollars,it will take more let's see if this can be a capable machine.

This is clearly to me our F-22 remade by their standards... whatever South Korea’s standards might be. I’d hope at least our proprietary secrets from weapons systems development are not stolen or shared irresponsibly. And I’d hope South Korean people continues to be our allies. One thing I regret so much is that Northrop-Grumman didn’t have the chance to build the great YF-23, which in other ways was better than the F-22.

"The world should be afraid of" maybe a bit too redundant or over exaggerated.
All military technology has to be studied both Allied and Adversary. (1) Allied: how will it perform not only as its countries necessities but as a PAK team asset. (2) Adversary: Will it work and perform as a offensive/defensive standoff/cause and effect deterrent. Not knowing it’s potentials, short comings and best overall piece on the chessboard will leave ‘fear’ till it proves itself not only to the effect of its engineering but its flaws as well. ‘All aircraft’ has its pros and cons. It’s the pilots, maint. crew, war-room, and Engineers that have to make the best of both worlds. This takes time, experience, and research dollars to work out. And sometimes but rarely, back to the drawing board. The Chinese are learning this lesson the hard way but well.
Not so if your up against building 1 F22 vs 10 KAI. This was same issue US had with the Chinese J20 which seems to be a flop as India air force picked up the J20 on radar. If South Korea does produce an effective stealth then it would be worry some for a lot of nation.
@@sangkang6294 This is correct, but sooner or later all nations will be moving into stealth technology. Even years from now older stealth technology will still be more of a treat than aircraft etc. that do not have it. Those nations that can afford it will invest in it.
@Rabbit Insane Any new first line (air superiority) fighter requires much attention regardless of Ally of Adversary. If Adversary that’s got it’s on little niche, if Ally will it do it’s job defending its Nation and/or how it performs in a PACT/Joint role. But agreed, “Should Fear” is a bit much. But we the (USA), millions of dollars will be spent in research on figuring it out, especially if it were an adversary situation. Considering Japan and S. Korea’s positioning regarding opposition N. Korea and China they should have been on this subject much, much earlier.
