I like specifically that the prophesy was that Isabela find the "Life of her dreams" while Dolores would find the "man of her dreams" which means it's two separate things... Isabela just wanted to not be perfect for once while Dolores is just a hopeless romantic (as she should)

I think the best part of it is when Felix sings "THUNDER" implying that Pepa first reaction upon seeing Bruno at her wedding made her burst out with a thunder, but everybody believes is Bruno's fault.

Felix’s “Abuela get the umbrellaaaaaa” and “No clouds allowed in the sky” during the over lapped part was amazing. And the fact that he was cut off during “what a joyous day but anyway” at the end, he ended up saying,”what a joyous day” instead lol
He's the only one that seems to not really be bothered about what Bruno said. Everybody including his wife are complaining about how Bruno ruined their lives and then he's just like "eh it could be worse. I'm just glad to be here!" lol

I like to think that when he gave her the prophecy about the "life of her dreams" it was seen by others as a perfect life never needing anything and being the best. Hence why she became the golden child with the expectations to have that "perfect life" while her dream life was different.
I think that what I loved about the storyline of Bruno is the underlying idea is bruno actually gives you free will. He tells you the path your on and YOU have a chance to change it. He told the woman about her fish and since she didn't do anything about it the fish died she might have been able to stop it. The guy was told he would get a gut and instead of changing his eating habits and working out he made it come true. And even in the end bruno says he only mentioned rain at the wedding because she was already nervous and would have made it rain anyway. She literally CONTROLS weather and he let him tell her what was gonna happen. Nothing he say HAS to happen which is why Dolores gets her man in the end too
Exactly! Or he even would tell people their future to brace for it. Like fish don't live super long lives so he could have told her to prepare for mourning the loss, same with the loosing the hair and the rain. Some things are just inevitable and he was only really trying to make sure that people could either change the outcome or brace for the impact of the outcome
I like this but what about the guy who went bald how could someone really prevent that. I’d like to think sometimes you can’t prevent everything so he was just letting him know in advance so he could adjust easier. Idk stupid comment probably
@@Eric.Eric_ as far as I can tell, he just tells people what will happen unless something changes. There are some things that can’t be changed, like going bald or a fish dying, but other things can be changed. He tells them about the path that they are on, not about how to navigate it or when the turns will be, if that makes sense.
Dolores using present tense on her lines is so interesting. She's hinting that bruno is in encanto, she can still hear him. And the 'Do you understand?' like she's saying 'Mirabel, did you get it?'
She's the only one to speak in present tense, and her verse is the only one that puts the blame on the family instead of Bruno himself. She's trying to tell Mirabel both that Bruno is still here, and that just because his prophecies are scary and hard to understand doesn't mean she has to be afraid, even though she's been taught to be afraid; all of it while staying true to the family rules that she's not supposed to talk about it.
yeah! the first time i head her verse i found it so very odd how she used present tense, then when it’s revealed he’s still hear it clicked. she heard him the whole time, yet couldn’t say anything
i love how when they're all singing together, you can hear Camillo singing higher at the second "yeah, he sees your dreams and feasts on your screams". it sounds amazing!
What i love about his part is that he describes Bruno with a "seven foot frame" when in reality Bruno's shorter than both his sisters. The last time Camilio saw him was when he was really young so to a child, an adult would look like they're 7 feet tall.
I love how by the end you can only really hear Dolores during the "He told me..." part, while the part where she symphatizes with Bruno is being drowned by the others
2:42 just everything about this part is amazing, the way Isabella, Felix and pepa's lyrics mixes, camilos already perfect vocals in the back, Delores's lyrics giving it that little kick it needs. And plus the bass playing on a lower tone just gives this part a solid and more powerful feeling. All these mixed in is why this part is so good 🤩🤩🤩
Fun fact: Lin Manuel Miranda revealed that all the parts of the song utilised the same chords but different rhythms. I think this is ingenious because all the characters are different with their gifts and personalities, yet they are all brought together by the sam basic chords, and their family tree. Also, by putting all the parts together, they sound good because they are comprised of the same chords. It emphasises how despite the sections of the song sounding so different from one another because of differing rhythms, when put together they sound mesmerising. The same is true in real life families (or most of them at least); everyone is different, but together, they are family and complement each other.
Camilo's part is so interesting because his description of Bruno is closer to a cryptid monster than a creepy relative. Bruno left when Camilo was young, so he probably has a more wild mental image of him as a result of his younger self's overactive imagination. He's also a playful person who probably likes to tease his younger cousin, so his descriptions are all the more exaggerated.
I always assumed there was one instance in which Bruno accidentally scared Camilo when he was younger. Like a young Camilo walks into the kitchen during the night and Bruno's just standing in there. Camilo, being a small kid, is frightened and...passes out, while Bruno is like "Camilo!" and tries to catch him (I say that due to the line "when he calls your name it all fades to black") Little kids have overactive imaginations, so he would have warped something like this into a boogyman of sorts and kept it that way

Also I like to think that Bruno does his roleplay drama in the walls just so he can keep Dolores entertained and for him not to feel alone, because it is for certain that he knows Dolores could hear him, since he was still there when she got her gift and he knows what her gift is (one easter egg as well during Dolores's part you can see Bruno on the back, which is a bit of a hint that Dolores is aware that Bruno is still in the house)
Being from a large family, and a tiny bit "different" from the others, I definitely know what it feels like to be marginalized by your own blood and unfairly depicted as someone you're not. This song hits hard.
I love how Dolores pictures him as a kind man because of the fact she can hear him in the walls, she probably brought him food on his birthdays and things, shes likely the only one who truly understands what he went through

Bruno is the epitome of "Don't shoot the messenger". I can't even imagine how he felt when his family basically turned his back on him, basically casting him as a curse, instead of just the power that he was given. Poor guy.

My favorite part is when Dolores and Isabella start singing “I’m fine” and “I’ll be fine” they both have different meanings for this. Dolores is “fine” with denying her feelings about this “man of her dreams” who’s with another. Whilst Isabella is telling herself that she’s fine with Mariano, she doesn’t love him at all, yet she’s willing to do it for this “perfect” image of hers that will make her “whole” family happy. At the end shes happy for Dolores as her and Mariano show romantic interest, and she’s also happy with herself as she uses the plants that recolored her dress on accident again, this time to recolor it on purpose as she’s finally allowed too. It’s nice to see that in my opinion :)
Yes, but I think the meaning is different in the movie version. In the movie, only Isabela is singing "And I'm fine and I'm fine and I'm fine I'm fine." Dolores doesn't sing "I'm fine". In the movie, the only people who sing "I'm fine" are Mirabel (her signature line in Waiting on a Miracle) and Isabela (who calls back to it in this song). But they cut out Dolores's part from the chorus to focus it on Isabela. In the context of the movie mix, "And I'm fine and I'm fine and I'm fine I'm fine" is a clue telling us Isabela is NOT, in fact, fine. We might guess it's because she doesn't want to marry Mariano, but in fact that's just a passing thought compared to her real issue - hiding who she really is.
I also like to think that in the prophecy gave to her was that she was going to get the life of her dreams, and at that point(them singing don't talk abt bruno) she says she's fine, not really saying that it's the life of her dreams.

Adding another detail to the detail, we know this is Dolores's prophecy so in the end she sings 'I'm fine' meaning she resigned herself to her fate, accepting that Mariano will never be hers, what's really interesting is Isabela's line 'I'll be fine'. She's uncertain for how long can she maintain the perfect child facade now that she will also be taking the role of a good housewife and mother, especially when she's longing for the life of her dreams that will come according her prophecy. I like how the people who made the lyrics made Isabella say that the *life* of her dreams would be hers, instead of indicating that it would be the man of her dreams like Dolores. I fell that this is genius foreshadowing, showing that Isabella only wanted to be free, and never wanted Mariano for herself in the first place.
This song also shows off how good a husband Felix is, he never resents his wife’s power or how often she has a storm or cloud and even when he got married to her in a hurricane she created he still says “what a joyous day” it’d be so easy to make him constantly angry at her but he’s not and it’s really sweet

I like the way the lyrics are laid out in this. It makes it nice and clear who's saying what, and for the last part in particular, you can pick one "voice" to focus on or just let them all wash over you.

I love that the "it looks like rain" comment from Bruno was actually a joke because he sees that Pepa sweating because she's either nervous about the wedding or his arrival and that "mischievous grin" was just him smiling at the joke. He was trying to cheer her up.

Honestly, I’m impressed with how well this lyric video is handled, with all the characters’ lines colored in their own colors, the blending of colors in synchronized lines, and the split for the climax.
I think she's whispering because she knows Bruno is still lurking in the house so she doesn't want him to hear her. She even says in the song that she "can hear him now". "I associate him with the sound of falling sand". She's also the only one that talks about him in present tense.

He actually says later that he was just being playful because he saw that she was nervous and sweating. It wasn't a proficy he was being cheeky and her nerves caused the storm.
OK I really love this song but its so clever because Dolores didn't mention anything bad about Bruno. She mentioned that they grew or basically were taught to fear him by the parents and the grandmother, due to them being hateful towards his powers. The idea that they fumble is that THEY fumble over his predictions, no fault to him. Dolores even mentions how she can still here him, giving us hints he's close by, yet she never tells the family she can hear him. Plus falling sand is soothing to some people, a call back to his hourglass imagery. She literally never bad mouthed him but informed mirabel "do you understand" as to why they treat him like the plague.
Loved that during the scene, you can see him dancing in the background in some parts, or slipping by(and thats shortly before Mirabel finds him having taken food from the kitchens.)

At this point in the film, not only is “the life of my dreams” not the life she is currently living, but it immediately precedes the events that would have permanently made that perfect life inaccessible to her.
I really like the line when Dolores mentions how humbling Bruno’s gift was. It’s true, seeing the future was probably scary to him. I also noticed on the family painting thing, all the others look happy or at least okay except Bruno. He looks scared instead.
I find it interesting how superstitious bruno is as well. He is so neurotic that he has to knock on wood, throw salt, there's a couple others in there.

The way the verses are all sung on top of each other at the end is so clever. It’s like all the things her family told her about Bruno are now swimming around Mirabel’s head as she tries to piece together the prophecy, making her fear the worst. So awesome

This song subtly shows how kindhearted Felix is and how he does not have any grudge towards Bruno. He even called the supposedly "ruined" wedding as joyous day. He doesnt talk about Bruno just because it irritates his wife greatly and still encouraged Mirabel to know more about Bruno.
Pepa wasn’t even really mad about her wedding day, as shown from when she sees Bruno again, she’s the first one to hug him and actually scoops him up. I think she used her wedding day as an excuse to deflect and bottle up how she was very sad and upset that he left

I just noticed in this that Dolores and Isabella saying “I’m fine/I’ll be fine” is hidden in this chaotic harmony and their voices are quieter when they say it, so you really gotta listen to hear their pleas for help God I love this movie more each time I watch it
I wish the movie itself had reflected the nuance in this song. To me they introduced and built up a complex family dynamic and ultimately simplified the resolution and actual conflict in rushed musical numbers and glossed over conversations

I don’t understand why people sleeping on Felix. As good as Dolores and Camilo were, Felix was the smoothest one the whole song, and brings out the best in Pepa
I absolutely adore Felix's character. You get a lot from the way that he moves, that he is there for Pepa. Felix means happiness, and you can tell even though he's a background character that he's a jokester and does whatever he can to make people smile. A good trait for someone married to Pepa, lol. I also just love the way he's animated, his dancing is *chef's kiss!*

I love how Isabella and Dolores parts at the end are hard to here unless your really looking for their parts. Both of their parts are of positive predictions. While the louder parts are all about the negative things about Bruno. It symbolize that only thing any one cares about or ever hears about him is the negative things he predicts or does.

@@bunnyite Yeah but I feel like only towards the end of the I'm fine Isabela's voice get's actually louder. I think it's easier to hear her because Dolores sings lower notes that blend more with the other voices but with headphones they sound equally loud (at least to me also if you haven't, try it it's good). Also I love that the betrothed to another is the loudest she sings because it's a negative thing.
I absolutely love Dolores’ and Isabella’s lines. They just seem to mirror each other. I know a lot of people have mentioned this, but I haven’t seen anyone mention that near the end Dolores is saying “I’m fine” while Isabella is saying “I’ll be fine” which further cements the idea that Isabella knows she won’t be the happiest, but is doing what she thinks is best for the family. Dolores may understand this and accepts it and says “I’m fine”.
I saw someone interpret Dolores getting louder for her “I’m fine” lines because she’s lying or trying to enforce a point whereas when she’s speaking truthfully or not trying to go with everyone else she’s quietly spoken, which I think is very clever
I think it's more so that Dolores has come to terms with her problem since she sees it as unchangable and preordained and Isabela thinks it will be fine in the future because she was promised the life of her dream. Simply because Brunos predictions said so for the both of them.
It's definitely a "I'm fine," of desperation and lying to oneself about a seemingly hopeless situation. In both Delores' and Isabela's minds, they're trapped. Isabela is being pushed into a marriage she doesn't want, while Delores is pining for Mariano, but doesn't want to say anything because she feels that would ruin Isabela's happiness and go against the family.
Something that people keep mistaking is when Dolores say, "It's like I can hear him now, I think I can hear him now." She's not talking about Bruno she's actually talking about Mariano.

Everything y'all said it's right about the musical part of this song, it's really great considering what y'all are saying, but let me tell you about the message of the song of Dos oruguitas. It might not have much production as this one, but the meaning is more powerful and deep. In the past 50 years Colombia has been living a nightmare because of illegal armed groups in the jungles who kill, kidnap, steal, rape, threat and torture farmers or whole villages on the rural areas. Because of the danger they were facing If they didn't leave their houses in 24 hours, they had to force themselves to leave everything behind to escape to the closest city and save their children's lives. On the process of displacement, they were mostly ambushed by the "guerrilleros" or "paramilitares" 2 different illegal armed groups. This happens because they want their lands to cultivate drugs like coca or marihuana (marihuana's production is still illegal here) or to use their houses as campsites to sleep and hide from the national Army. And also because there are battles in the ground between the illegal groups or with the national army, so the families that are in the middle of the fire decide to leave earlier so they don't get hurt. On the movie Abuelo died by distracting and slowing them down, so they couldn't kill or kidnap the rest of the families. Then, Abuela had to adapt herself, like a caterpillar, to take care and fight for the safety of the miracle that gave her children a roof over their heads and houses to the other families, basically as the song said, from being a caterpillar, to be a butterfly The sentence "Two caterpillars" or "Dos Oruguitas" is a metaphor about the adaptability to changes, even the cruel ones. It's the first time this real, cruel and awful situation is represented in a Disney movie. On the theater, every Colombian or foreigners who knew this reality on our rural zones, cried while watching it and listening to the song, because this scene is realistic and the song Dos oruguitas is talking about it. That's why the message of the song is powerful enough to be nominated in the Oscars

We Don't Talk About Bruno's my absolute favorite and it's the one I keep on playing the most but Dos Oruguitas is the one that deserves the nomination the most for me as well. The scene makes me cry every time and to think such a real life issue is depicted in a Disney animated film this way is incredibly moving. At the end of the day, I wish both was nominated.
If you watch Isabel's expressions during her first bit you can see the absolute longing for the life of her dreams. She's holding onto that hope when she won't have to be perfect. I bet Brunos message to her was super important.

Yes! I was about to comment about this! Her verse seems so out of place until you realize she’s singing about how Bruno gave her this prophecy and it ISN’T coming true (yet)!
I like to think that when he gave her the prophecy about the "life of her dreams" it was seen by others as a perfect life never needing anything and being the best. Hence why she became the golden child with the expectations to have that "perfect life" while her dream life was different.

I think that what I loved about the storyline of Bruno is the underlying idea is bruno actually gives you free will. He tells you the path your on and YOU have a chance to change it. He told the woman about her fish and since she didn't do anything about it the fish died she might have been able to stop it. The guy was told he would get a gut and instead of changing his eating habits and working out he made it come true. And even in the end bruno says he only mentioned rain at the wedding because she was already nervous and would have made it rain anyway. She literally CONTROLS weather and he let him tell her what was gonna happen.

There are some things that can’t be changed, like going bald or a fish dying, but other things can be changed. Fun fact: Lin Manuel Miranda revealed that all the parts of the song utilised the same chords but different rhythms. I think this is ingenious because all the characters are different with their gifts and personalities, yet they are all brought together by the sam basic chords, and their family tree.
Also, by putting all the parts together, they sound good because they are comprised of the same chords. It emphasises how despite the sections of the song sounding so different from one another because of differing rhythms, when put together they sound mesmerising. The same is true in real life families (or most of them at least); everyone is different, but together, they are family and complement each other.

Camilo's part is so interesting because his description of Bruno is closer to a cryptid monster than a creepy relative. Bruno left when Camilo was young, so he probably has a more wild mental image of him as a result of his younger self's overactive imagination. He's also a playful person who probably likes to tease his younger cousin, so his descriptions are all the more exaggerated.
I always assumed there was one instance in which Bruno accidentally scared Camilo when he was younger.
Like a young Camilo walks into the kitchen during the night and Bruno's just standing in there.
Camilo, being a small kid, is frightened and...passes out, while Bruno is like "Camilo!" and tries to catch him (I say that due to the line "when he calls your name it all fades to black")

My favorite part is when Dolores and Isabella start singing “I’m fine” and “I’ll be fine” they both have different meanings for this.
Dolores is “fine” with denying her feelings about this “man of her dreams” who’s with another. Whilst Isabella is telling herself that she’s fine with Mariano, she doesn’t love him at all, yet she’s willing to do it for this “perfect” image of hers that will make her “whole” family happy. At the end shes happy for Dolores as her and Mariano show romantic interest, and she’s also happy with herself as she uses the plants that recolored her dress on accident again, this time to recolor it on purpose as she’s finally allowed too. It’s nice to see that in my opinion :)

In the movie, only Isabela is singing "And I'm fine and I'm fine and I'm fine I'm fine." Dolores doesn't sing "I'm fine". In the movie, the only people who sing "I'm fine" are Mirabel (her signature line in Waiting on a Miracle) and Isabela (who calls back to it in this song). But they cut out Dolores's part from the chorus to focus it on Isabela.
In the context of the movie mix, "And I'm fine and I'm fine and I'm fine I'm fine" is a clue telling us Isabela is NOT, in fact, fine. We might guess it's because she doesn't want to marry Mariano, but in fact that's just a passing thought compared to her real issue - hiding who she really is.
I love how all of them sync up so amazingly in the end.

OK I really love this song but its so clever because Dolores didn't mention anything bad about Bruno.
She mentioned that they grew or basically were taught to fear him by the parents and the grandmother, due to them being hateful towards his powers.
The idea that they fumble is that THEY fumble over his predictions, no fault to him.
Dolores even mentions how she can still here him, giving us hints he's close by, yet she never tells the family she can hear him.
Plus falling sand is soothing to some people, a call back to his hourglass imagery.
She literally never bad mouthed him but informed mirabel "do you understand" as to why they treat him like the plague.

I really like the line when Dolores mentions how humbling Bruno’s gift was. It’s true, seeing the future was probably scary to him. I also noticed on the family painting thing, all the others look happy or at least okay except Bruno. He looks scared instead.

I absolutely love Dolores’ and Isabella’s lines. They just seem to mirror each other. I know a lot of people have mentioned this, but I haven’t seen anyone mention that near the end Dolores is saying “I’m fine” while Isabella is saying “I’ll be fine” which further cements the idea that Isabella knows she won’t be the happiest, but is doing what she thinks is best for the family. Dolores may understand this and accepts it and says “I’m fine”.

It's definitely a "I'm fine," of desperation and lying to oneself about a seemingly hopeless situation. In both Delores' and Isabela's minds, they're trapped. In the past 50 years Colombia has been living a nightmare because of illegal armed groups in the jungles who kill, kidnap, steal, rape, threat and torture farmers or whole villages on the rural areas. Because of the danger they were facing If they didn't leave their houses in 24 hours, they had to force themselves to leave everything behind to escape to the closest city and save their children's lives. On the process of displacement, they were mostly ambushed by the "guerrilleros" or "paramilitares" 2 different illegal armed groups. This happens because they want their lands to cultivate drugs like coca or marihuana (marihuana's production is still illegal here) or to use their houses as campsites to sleep and hide from the national Army. And also because there are battles in the ground between the illegal groups or with the national army, so the families that are in the middle of the fire decide to leave earlier so they don't get hurt.
On the movie Abuelo died by distracting and slowing them down, so they couldn't kill or kidnap the rest of the families. Then, Abuela had to adapt herself, like a caterpillar, to take care and fight for the safety of the miracle that gave her children a roof over their heads and houses to the other families, basically as the song said, from being a caterpillar, to be a butterfly
The sentence "Two caterpillars" or "Dos Oruguitas" is a metaphor about the adaptability to changes, even the cruel ones.
It's the first time this real, cruel and awful situation is represented in a Disney movie.
On the theater, every Colombian or foreigners who knew this reality on our rural zones, cried while watching it and listening to the song, because this scene is realistic and the song Dos oruguitas is talking about it.

We Don't Talk About Bruno's my absolute favorite and it's the one I keep on playing the most but Dos Oruguitas is the one that deserves the nomination the most for me as well. The scene makes me cry every time and to think such a real life issue is depicted in a Disney animated film this way is incredibly moving. At the end of the day, I wish both was nominated.
If you watch Isabel's expressions during her first bit you can see the absolute longing for the life of her dreams. She's holding onto that hope when she won't have to be perfect. I bet Brunos message to her was super important.
