I was hoping that the SOMEWHERE BALLET from the 1957 broadway cast recording which was eliminated from the 1961 film would have been included in this film version, as sung by Tony Maria , Consuelo ( SOMEWHERE) and chorus effect. Valentina could have reprised the Somwhere song.
Fun fact: This was the 5th movie directed by Steven Spielberg that wasn't composed by John Williams (after Duel, The Color Purple, Bridge of Spies and Ready Player One)
Spielberg said Sondheim had a few issues with the new music score but did not elaborate. I'm going to guess he had issues with Rita Moreno singing 'Somewhere', and changing the narrative of the dance scene of 'Cool' from the original film. Both scenes were powerful in the original, which did not translate in the new version.
This movie has the most beautiful end credits I have ever seen.
So concludes one of the best remakes in cinema history. Up there with Carpenter's The Thing, A Star Is Born, among a handful of others.
The end credits with the shadows is incredible . For. a 2 hr and 40 min movie I didn’t want it to end.
The quality of the recording of the soundtrack is out of this world.

Wonderful rendition except for the Mambo section. Flaccid; lifeless except for that short trumped solo.
