Julieta heals people with her food, while her husband who gets stung a lot can benefit from that a lot, so it’s a perfect match. Isabela’s flowers can help manage Pepa’s emotions. Finally, while Mirabel wasn’t gifted, that helped her resonate with Bruno and save the family
People having superpowers based on their personality is basic character development. If one of your character's traits is pride, they wouldn't use the ability to become invisible
This just goes to show that Isabela is put on a pedestal while Luisa is easily taken for granted. I assumed before watching the movie that Luisa is the eldest. But as it turns out she's the middle child whom only gets attention when one wants something from her.

Yes! And the fact that it’s sung to the tune of Dos Oruguitas is really cool as well. Abuela’s obsession with keeping this miracle alive and being a perfect family is her way of honoring her husband’s sacrifice, being too caught up in the past to realize she’s only hurting her family in the process. It fits rlly well with the story told in Dos Oruguitas about caterpillars who aren’t prepared for the wonders in store for them as butterflies because they’re too busy holding on to their past lives as caterpillars.
@@esoheebuehi6616 The "miracle" is what brought the Madrigal family their gifts, but right after Abuela's children (Pepa, Bruno and Julietta) were born, she used the candle/miracle to help her family survive. Assuming you've watched the movie, the miracle itself shouldn't just be a representation of the past and held onto so tightly. There's a gift and miracle inside every family member and Abuela lost touch with seeing that in others as she grew older. I hope all of that makes sense.
It's interesting that Bruno has the gift of Prophecy. Usually that power is given to women, the Oracle of Delphi, Cassandra of Troy, Volupsa of the Norse Poetic Edda, even Japan has the Ushionna. That Bruno, Camilo and Antonio all have powers that are usually given to female characters in fiction shows that Encanto did a lot to stand out beyond the Central-South American setting.

@@j.c4t Not like it's an excuse but at the time this movie was set in, (early 20th century) arranged marriages were quite the norm :] So realistically I think it's kinda cool that Abuela let Julieta marry him even if that wasn't who Abuela wanted. Because she could have easily made that impossible. Especially since we see how it could have played out with Isabella and her former groom to be.
Anyone realize that Abuela’s verse goes with the same rhythm of Dos Oruguitas, the story in which she explains that her husband saved his family, making it so that it seems she is strict on them so that she doesn’t feel like he’s passed in vain
It's also somewhat explains her trauma. She said they must "earn" the miracle, and they "must keep the miracle burning". She thinks they have to keep helping the community so that the miracle won't fade. So she's indirectly told us she's afraid to lose the miracle and that's why she is so strict w/ her family & put so much community burden on them.
I realized during Abuela’s that verse she said future generations *must* keep the miracle burning, which also somewhat foreshadows her actions and her mindset that all the kids are responsible for the candle to keep burning.
I think the 'Adios!' is so charming. The hysterical "HA!" and the quick singing is sooo funny. The "MIRABELLLL!" at the end is hilarious! I just adore the added stuff to the music!

the use of "Madrigal" as their surname is interesting to me, since a madrigal is a musical composition (Renaissance/Baroque) that includes multiple voices which could represent the many people/voices within the family, and I also feel like it's similar to the word "magical" which could refer to the family's magic. that's my take lol I haven't read anything confirming this but I feel like it wouldn't be far-off
Aww man, Abuela's section at 2:09 is to the tune of Dos Oruguitas. It was right there from the start. She sings about the miracle with the pain of losing Pedro still very much there.
I didnt pay much mind to Abuela's lines in this when first watching "Work and dedication will keep the miracle burning, and each new generation MUST keep the miracle burning" Really showcases the pressure she puts on the family to prove their worth in the powers they got. But at the same time, it's not like shes entirely wrong. They were graced with special talents, so why not help the community and do right by their neighbours and protect what their Abuelo sacrificed his own life for? Of course where she messed up was putting so much focus on the gifts and nothing else, making them feel like they have nothing to contribute other than what she says they can contribute. We even see it the very day after Antonio got his gift. As soon as he has it Abuela is saying to him that they need to figure out how his ability can best serve the community. Right off the bat he isnt even allowed to have any fun with it just "yep you got a job to do now"
Alma and the other villagers fled the Thousand Days War and started the Encanto. Another reason why she puts pressure on everyone to help the community could be she doesn't want people to resent her or her family, a la "look at those Madrigals. They got all those gifts while we have to scrape by to survive." She probably wants to show that the family cares about the community and they're just got hoarding the good stuff for themselves. After all, she didn't ask for her family to have magical powers. It was just given to her.

The first time i listen to this song while watching the movie, i thought the music sounds like how a musical play would sounds like. This is one of the reasons Mirabel my favorite character in encanto. She had good cords same for vocals. And especially in the Mariano part. Very fast at singing which makes the song way better. I believe that Mirabel had to endure not being given her gift at the time she was meant to because she needed to endure not having a gift in order to understand what the other "non-magical" Madrigal members felt. She also was technically given a gift at the time she was meant to receive one, but unlike the other family members, hers was not obvious, until she had to discover why the magic was waning and help the other family members to come to terms with their gifts in the way that helped them to not only be of service to others, but also to be happy for themselves. Abuela Alma was primarily focussed on the family members with gifts in order to protect the family by keeping the magic "happy" and to be of service to the village, but she lost sight of what was really important, and that was how each family member actually felt; whether they were coping and whether the decisions they had to make with their gifts every day was also of service to them. Mirabel was chosen to not only make Abuela Alma realise that she had lost touch with what was important, help the family to come to terms with their gifts, but also the magic needed to find someone to take over when Abuela Alma was no longer around - and Mirabel was that choice because she understood what the family needed. Mirabel's gift was Love.
the fact that when talking about her sister, isabela gets her own, a little more in depth portion of the song, meanwhile luisa gets "strong" "super strong" "brawn" as if that's the only thing everyone really knows about her because nobody really thinks of her much unless they want her help..
Did anyone else notice all pepa and Felix kids have powers that deal with communicating Delores with hearing, Camilo with being able to shape shift to communicate better, and Antonio talks to animals then there juletias kids who are all over the place flowers, strength and no power at all

Especially with Bruno relearning how to love his powers and Isabella seeing what plants she can make out of the norm that are still helpful or other ways to use them and still be unique not to mention Dolores and the "no thoughts, just wife" man Mariono who wanted 5 babies wonder what those kids gifts would be. Not to mention that there was some hints about alma not being too fond of how Antonio was using his powers so going and giving him courage that he is gonna struggle with.

Two parts of this song! When she's singing about her sisters you can hear hatred in her voice on Isabella's part but not on Luisa's. When she was trying to get away from the kids and singing about Delores, Delores probably heard that she was uncomfortable and avoiding telling them but she didn't help her.
When she said "and Luisa's super strong, the beauty and the braun" I thought she was saying Luisa was beautiful and I thought that was really sweet but then I realized she meant their gifts.
For some reason, watching Encanto reminded me of Meet the Robinsons. You know, they have powers of their own, so... Time to watch that again, and a second watching of Encanto after that.

I may be stupid for not noticing this earlier but each character's outfit matches their respective family colors. These small details really just shows how well-thought the character designs are.

Yes! And the fact that it’s sung to the tune of Dos Oruguitas is really cool as well. Abuela’s obsession with keeping this miracle alive and being a perfect family is her way of honoring her husband’s sacrifice, being too caught up in the past to realize she’s only hurting her family in the process. It fits rlly well with the story told in Dos Oruguitas about caterpillars who aren’t prepared for the wonders in store for them as butterflies because they’re too busy holding on to their past lives as caterpillars.

@@esoheebuehi6616 The "miracle" is what brought the Madrigal family their gifts, but right after Abuela's children (Pepa, Bruno and Julietta) were born, she used the candle/miracle to help her family survive. Assuming you've watched the movie, the miracle itself shouldn't just be a representation of the past and held onto so tightly. There's a gift and miracle inside every family member and Abuela lost touch with seeing that in others as she grew older. I hope all of that makes sense.

It's interesting that Bruno has the gift of Prophecy. Usually that power is given to women, the Oracle of Delphi, Cassandra of Troy, Volupsa of the Norse Poetic Edda, even Japan has the Ushionna. That Bruno, Camilo and Antonio all have powers that are usually given to female characters in fiction shows that Encanto did a lot to stand out beyond the Central-South American setting.

She thinks they have to keep helping the community so that the miracle won't fade. Aww man, Abuela's section at 2:09 is to the tune of Dos Oruguitas. It was right there from the start. She sings about the miracle with the pain of losing Pedro still very much there.

Really showcases the pressure she puts on the family to prove their worth in the powers they got.
But at the same time, it's not like shes entirely wrong. They were graced with special talents, so why not help the community and do right by their neighbours and protect what their Abuelo sacrificed his own life for? Of course where she messed up was putting so much focus on the gifts and nothing else, making them feel like they have nothing to contribute other than what she says they can contribute.
We even see it the very day after Antonio got his gift. As soon as he has it Abuela is saying to him that they need to figure out how his ability can best serve the community. Right off the bat he isnt even allowed to have any fun with it just "yep you got a job to do now"
Alma and the other villagers fled the Thousand Days War and started the Encanto. Another reason why she puts pressure on everyone to help the community could be she doesn't want people to resent her or her family, a la "look at those Madrigals. They got all those gifts while we have to scrape by to survive."
She probably wants to show that the family cares about the community and they're just got hoarding the good stuff for themselves. After all, she didn't ask for her family to have magical powers. It was just given to her.

I believe that Mirabel had to endure not being given her gift at the time she was meant to because she needed to endure not having a gift in order to understand what the other "non-magical" Madrigal members felt. She also was technically given a gift at the time she was meant to receive one, but unlike the other family members, hers was not obvious, until she had to discover why the magic was waning and help the other family members to come to terms with their gifts in the way that helped them to not only be of service to others, but also to be happy for themselves.
Abuela Alma was primarily focussed on the family members with gifts in order to protect the family by keeping the magic "happy" and to be of service to the village, but she lost sight of what was really important, and that was how each family member actually felt; whether they were coping and whether the decisions they had to make with their gifts every day was also of service to them.
Mirabel was chosen to not only make Abuela Alma realise that she had lost touch with what was important, help the family to come to terms with their gifts, but also the magic needed to find someone to take over when Abuela Alma was no longer around - and Mirabel was that choice because she understood what the family needed. Mirabel's gift was Love.
Love this and yes the Encanto Disney book confirms this. Mirabel's gift was being able to see the magic inside everyone.

Especially with Bruno relearning how to love his powers and Isabella seeing what plants she can make out of the norm that are still helpful or other ways to use them and still be unique not to mention Dolores and the "no thoughts, just wife" man Mariono who wanted 5 babies wonder what those kids gifts would be.
Not to mention that there was some hints about alma not being too fond of how Antonio was using his powers so going and giving him courage that he is gonna struggle with.

Two parts of this song! When she's singing about her sisters you can hear hatred in her voice on Isabella's part but not on Luisa's. When she was trying to get away from the kids and singing about Delores, Delores probably heard that she was uncomfortable and avoiding telling them but she didn't help her.
When she said "and Luisa's super strong, the beauty and the braun" I thought she was saying Luisa was beautiful and I thought that was really sweet but then I realized she meant their gifts.

I’m just so obsessed with this film, it got it spot on for a movie I wanted. It felt emotional without it being forced. I both don’t want a sequel because I’m sure the story wouldn’t be great but I also NEED more of these characters
