Loved this addition to the film. Also loved how the Sharks are essentially vigilantes who are trying to protect their community from the harassment of the Jets.
This song is not from the movie, it was written in 1867 during a revolution in Puerto Rico, the title of the video is kind of misleading. So no, it was turn into a song before the musical and I seriously doubt the author got any inspiration from the french when she wrote it lol.

Libertad. Isn’t liberty afforded to All American citizens equally? Isn’t that what the constitution says? Congress says otherwise. Essentially saying as Congressional lawyers said previously “we can do what we want with Puerto Rico “ Give us equality, before the law. Daja’Vu? 1865?
No it means free in this context the Puerto Ricans are fighting for their freedom they're Independence kind of like how the US fought for their independence from Great Britain and this is the true unofficial hymn of Puerto Rico which signifies strength and unity amongst the Puerto Rican people because again America is the colonizer
Me dio vergüenza esa escena.
This is the most ridiculous part of the new version of West Side Story. This revolutionary anthem does not represent the feelings of the majority of Puerto Ricans at all. More than 90% of Puerto Ricans are not interested in any stupid revolution or independence. This was inserted there just to please the few of the Puerto Rican socialist intelligentsia that lives obsessed with this shitty independence. That scene embarrassed me.

Whereas the Jets were a bunch of angry kids who never had much chance in life & didn’t understand how wrong they were
that is literally how all gangs started and their initial intentions. nothing new here

Sounds a bit like a song from LES MIZ ( LES MISERABLES ) and the french revolution.

¡Ven! nos será simpático
El ruido de cañón
Nosotros queremos la libertad
Nuestros machetes nos la dará
Vámonos borinqueño, vámonos ya

Hi disney can I invest my stories in disney please say yes
I know it is about wanting to be free something simular to being free but i dont know what it all means but it is a good number
The original was written during el grito de Lares, the Puerto Rican revolution against Spain in the mid-1800s. Quite the history.
@@Kilovotis thanks
oh hi
This is the himno revolucionario…. The unofficial anthem of PR not the sharks version lol
It's called the Sharks version because the Sharks are singing it, otherwise you're right.
I should also add they changed up the lyrics.
Libertad.

It’s Boriken, my people. Not Borinquen. Let’s start saying it correctly.
thats how the anthem was written
