Rachel Zegler is one of those actresses who deserves to be skyrocketed to fame. Her first movie debut and she hits it out of the park like this, absolutely phenomenal, glad she's getting so many roles.
1000% agreed about BOTH, but Ansel doesn't get the recognition, kudos and Love for his performance like Rachel and others in this BRILLIANT 2021 Movie receive and he SO deserves to!! He is PHENOMENAL as Tony in this new Movie Version in EVERY way, as far as I'm concerned!! GORGEOUS in every way, as well!

They were actually singing in the take - if you watch Ansel Elgort's throat, it matches his vibrato.He showed Tony's toughness and his love beautifully. There are some moments of the film where he is generating so much pain, it's difficult to watch - but you do - even knowing how it ends.

Having it in an old monastery turned museum instead of the bridal shop is a nice change from the 1961/musical versions. Especially since they incorporated it into Tony's new backstory.
This is simply exquisite singing. Apparently, this film isn't doing that well at the box office. I saw it the day it opened and am so glad. It's wonderful.

part of that is the availability on streaming it thats how I saw it don't let that metric affect your perception of how a movie is doing because it is now is very inaccurate.
This is superior to the original. And the original is imo one of the best movies of all time. I'm forever grateful to Steven Spielberg for bringing West Side Story back to life with such love. It's unique yet keeps the passion and intensity from the source material. Bravo!

I ALWAYS feel safe hearing this song, ESPECIALLY this remake. There's a softness with both Ansel Elgort's voice and Rachel Zegler's voice that made this more appealingly angelic, compared to the original and 2009 broadway version (no offense) which was a bit heavy only because it was the opera feel to it. Please watch West Side Story 2021!

After seeing the film three times, I can say this is and "I Have a Love" bring me back so much; not the most since I have listened to the entire soundtrack back to front too many times now 😂. This scene in the film completely changed what I thought about this song originally as I thought it was whatever but now it feels like a tragedy unfolding. I still can't get enough of this movie.
I saw the movie, my mind was honestly blown because of how good Rachel was in her acting debut. I was like "WTF!?!? Like where did this come from Spielberg??" Her performance is definitely Oscar worthy, she deserves every nomination and even win she will get. I’ve been a fan of the 60’s movie since I was a HS freshman. And yet, I thought Spielberg was crazy to do this until when Rita Moreno was announced to be part of it.
I was just able to watch this film today! This duet made me cry in the theater. The score and their voices belong in this church because they are heavenly!!
I'm glad they decided to do the full version of the song as seen in the original 1957 Broadway version. I don't know why they only sang half of it in the 1961 film.
I saw the movie this afternoon and absolutely loved it! From the opening, I was struck by how much more effectively this version celebrated and utilized Bernstein's score. In the original film, the score often took a backseat to the choreography or dialogue, but in this version, there was a much better balance among all those elements.
TOTALLY agree!! In this new 2021 Movie Version, the Instruments are SO much more lush and have SUCH a full, "SURROUND" sound!! It practically sounds live, like you're there in the same ROOM with them!! INCREDIBLE!!
The remake was stunning!! I loved it!! I actually liked it better than the original film! They used Marni Nixon's voice in the place of Natalie Wood's in the original film. It was supposed to be kept secret but later the truth was revealed. The remake is amazing and I literally can't stop thinking about it!! I can't wait to see it again. 📽️❤️

I sang this at my girlfriend's wedding in The eighties. I'm an alto and rehearsed it as an alto in that register. When I got to the wedding the Music director told me I had to sing an octave up. Somehow I pulled it off. I can get up there, but I'm really an alto. Everyone seemed to like it unless they were lying, LOL. My one friend said it was good but it didn't sound like me.?

I loved Elgort. Huge improvement over Richard Beymer and the singing in the movie. Only Larry Kert was better, but he was the perfect Tony. I loved the Spielberg. I forgot the original after I saw it.
Not sure of your age, but I'm going to guess pretty young. I know taste is personal, but while he is very good, Ansel Elgort, IMO, is NOT a huge improvement over Beymer.
@@jlbaker2000 Acting-wise or singing-wise? My opinion on my very own personal taste that the Tony roles are hardly the same between the two adaptations of the show. Many fans of the 1961 version appreciate the dreamy and romantic sense of the character (which Richard Beymer brings), and the Tony of the 2021 version is an ex-convict trying to reach for goodness, after the violent mistakes of being a Jet, and I felt the pathos of this from Ansel Elgort's acting. With regard to singing voice, Ansel has the advantage because he got to sing for himself, and his tone and vibrato is well done.
This is much better than the original. His voice is really natural and nice and her high notes are so pretty. I don't like the story of WSS and really didn't care much for the original movie (tho the dance numbers were quite good) but I'm looking forward to seeing this for the two leads' singing and acting.

You can hear the slightly synthetic tones of autotune going on with Elgort at times. Zegler on the other hand has an astonishing voice.

I loved Elgort. Huge improvement over Richard Beymer and the singing in the movie. Only Larry Kert was better, but he was the perfect Tony. I loved the Spielberg. I forgot the original after I saw it.
I was 6 when I saw the original film. Richard Beymer is who I am used to as Tony. I'm not sure who is "better".
Not sure of your age, but I'm going to guess pretty young. I know taste is personal, but while he is very good, Ansel Elgort, IMO, is NOT a huge improvement over Beymer.
@@jlbaker2000 Acting-wise or singing-wise? My opinion on my very own personal taste that the Tony roles are hardly the same between the two adaptations of the show. Many fans of the 1961 version appreciate the dreamy and romantic sense of the character (which Richard Beymer brings), and the Tony of the 2021 version is an ex-convict trying to reach for goodness, after the violent mistakes of being a Jet, and I felt the pathos of this from Ansel Elgort's acting. With regard to singing voice, Ansel has the advantage because he got to sing for himself, and his tone and vibrato is well done.

This is much better than the original. His voice is really natural and nice and her high notes are so pretty. I don't like the story of WSS and really didn't care much for the original movie (tho the dance numbers were quite good) but I'm looking forward to seeing this for the two leads' singing and acting.

I won't lie, I wasn't overly impressed by Ansel Elgort's singing......until *this* song. That said, he isn't a bad singer, its just that all the other hugely talented cast members totally overshadow him.

Ansel's voice sounds a little synthetic and computery at times, but Rachel's voice is just pure and stunning. I suspect she didn't need any software on her voice.
@@gully8029 That makes sense, it's probably why his voice needed such post-performance manipulation because the number of takes is limited in such situations. Despite what you may think, live doesn't mean unedited. In fact live performances are often heavily edited. Madonna's awful singing at Eurovision was massively edited before it went on KRplus. They clearly did a lot of work on him.
