@@pakhyun3777 i agree to pak hyun's interpretation rather than that of dkdk. dkdk's interpretation is just one dimentional, especially describing the King as a big companies in the Kpop industry lol. Suga surpassed that stage long time ago. It is more like the King is alter ego of Suga, the successful BTS, and by killing the King, Suga wants to keep his feet grounded again as he did 7yrs ago. RM and Suga tasted success and they do not want the success to take over their spirit, passion, dedication etc. They often said they want to keep their feet grounded otherwise they become easily lazy ans lose their passion

pak hyun okay but everyone has different prospects on what songs mean for example a song that means something happy to you can trigger something sad to me? So they are not making up anything but analyzing the song and video.. he doesn’t say this is what this means but this is what it could mean! Also they’re explaining the context of the lyrics and what they mean! They could mean nothing to you but he’s actually giving history and context! If you think it’s bs, then don’t watch? We are actually learning something even if it means it’s not the exact meaning? He’s actually taking time to explain and helps people better understand the song, so you should be thankful instead of saying they’re bs.. have a good day

To all those "armys" being rude to Danny for this, first of all, nothing he said was wrong and his explanation made sense. People can interpret art in many ways and Danny's interpretation can be justified by the lyrics and MV. Its not like yoongi had an official explanation of anything. Second of all, stop attacking people when they clearly put a lot of work and thought into these videos and they don't even make a lot of money from it. They make this for fans and because they like making vids. Its okay to disagree but please be respectful and Danny did nothing wrong for u to accuse him of. I dont really see the issue, bts made kpop more popular globally, thus they gave kpop youtubers more popularity too (this channel started before they even knew bts). It feels like, just like in Shadow, there's a fight between his two personas here. the king representing his ego and his need to keep going higher, and the commoner being the side of him that is more down to earth but still not letting others step on him.
At the end of the MV the commoner shoots the king, in order for his ego driven persona not to get out of control and stay humble with his succeses.

Suga explained in a behind-the-scenes video about his roles in the music video.
He said that the August D from four years ago has become a king, but now he is in conflict with another August D.
I really think he sings about how he reached the top/ became a King. All the struggles he went through, the critics he had faced, his mental health, worked hard, became rich and famous etc. Now he has reached the top and is reflecting on everything.
He realizes what he has become and he doesn't like it. So, he kills that person. He wants to stay firmly on the ground.
In my opinion Suga is always looking inside himself and tries to be a better person.
In another interview he had said that you reach the top, but one day you will come down, but that's not bad, because then you try and climb again.

I remember learning in my literature class that the best type of literature is the writing that could be interpreted in many different ways but still relevant without it being misleading. Here DKDKTV explained that Daechwita is a song of BTS relationship with ARMY and their struggles and success in the entertainment world but I also read in some tweets from ARMY that this song talked more about his struggles with the shadow of himself, how he fear the greedy (or the King) side of him that grows along with his fame. In the song after he talks about how now he got everything from clothes to money and basically craves nothing more since he's so high already, he continued with "I only looked up and now I want to look down and put my feet on the ground", I interpret is as he already experience everything great about his success and now he just wants to settle and keep being humble, back to his roots. It is always interesting to see how he talk a lot about this struggle of him where he didn't want to lose himself to fame and he always just wants to keep on being the humble him. He kind of feared that the King / Greedy side of him will take over him and turning him into a mean person, but here in the video he visually kills the King, an imagery of how he kills his Greedy side, and let the humble-normal citizen side of him live.
In conclusion, this song can be interpreted in so many ways and that is very clever of him. This song is lit and people who refuse to recognize his talent are just dumb.

I agree it’s possible for it to be not only a diss track for others (u never know) but a metaphor for his own journey and evolution. "The fact that I'm silent, doesn't mean that I'm weak nor ignorant."
I think this phrase fits the meaning of the song very well.
BTS was silent for so many years until their popularity exploded, but even when it did, they still kept silence. Instead of going on shows or interviews to bash others (like some artists do), they've always used their music to speak out their struggles and discomfort, and the best part of it? They don't need to say names, they've never said names, yet a lot of people boiling in anger, have popped up.
This is why BTS never cease to amaze me.

I personally imagined the song as a different interpretation- that the corrupt king version of yoongi was representative of his ego after bts’ big explosion into the western market around the time of his first mixtape’s release (hence why he still has the blonde hair which he had in the music videos for ‘Give It To Me’ and ‘Agust D’, now grown out). The lower-class yoongi to me represents his inner self hitting pause and looking at himself in the mirror, realizing that his ego has gotten too big and has now sent himself on a mission to kill the part of himself that thinks he is too good for this world, the high and mighty tyrant king.

  • @koyukiny
    @koyukiny 3 년 전 +690

Your interpretation of Korean historical references, such as King Gwanghae and crown prince Sado, are on point. Him writing the words specifically Gwanghae and rice chest is a clear sign that Suga definitely had King Gwanghae and crown prince Sado in his mind. But i dont really agree to your interpretation of the King being big entertainment companies in Kpop and low class Suga being a humble rookie suga from a small unknown company. I think that interpretation is too simple and quite one dimensional. I think Suga and BTS have surpassed the stage of being bitter about how they were ignored and mistreated by big companies in the Kpop industry.
I thought the King is his alter ego, who has achieved everything he ever wanted and ended up being currupt and being a tyrant due to his success, and the low class Suga is current Suga constantly reminding him of how his humble beginnings were like and of how passionate he was about music and his career. By a low class Suga killing the currupt tyrant King, his alter ego, he wants to make sure to keep his feet grounded again as he started 7rys ago.Basically, i interpreted this is a song that constantly reminds him of his humble beginnings, how he will never let his success currupt him and how he will never let his success take away his dedication and passion into music.
I really think BTS and Suga have already surpassed the stage of being bitter about how they were mistreated in the industry in the past. That was a long time ago.
Other than that, I agree to most of your interpretation.

    Here's some other things:
    - He also looks at the butcher in the village, and they make a pact for the butcher to be the executioner and release Agust D to kill the king. Even the villagers shun the tyrant king.
    - The old Agust D just beheads all that have concerns and that go against him because he is too scared and paranoid to properly confront the problems.
    - "Berserk tiger Gwanghae flow" he is talking about the tyrant king Agust D, talking about how wicked he became. Present Suga might have also mocked the king by driving in the courtyard and flexing his relation with Bang PD, just to show how his past self was easy to anger.
    - "Shove the past into the rice chest" He is foreshadowing about killing his past self because of how notorious and wicked he had become.
-Present Suga showing you aren't born as royalty, you need to work for it. And you can show it in different ways, like how he's gotten from a peasant (rookie idol) to one of the most successful and smart kings (Worldwide superstar). He also mocks the king in a metaphoric way. How the king beheads people (doesn't want to deal with the problems) and how Suga confronts them and endures them (diss tracks about plagiarism and mental health)
-Just the old king theme and modern day underclassman theme about killing the past stereotypes and rules in general and making new ones.
    *Hope this helped too :)*

The one that is widely used is Realization of the Reality aka Reality Check(현실자각타임).
The Hyunta used in Daechwita is the latter Hyunta and has nothing to do with the "wiseman's time".
Anyone interested in history of Joseon Era, here are two fascinating movies that will give you a great foundation to understand this MV.
    Masquerade: krplus.net/bidio/YbimmH1nio6zpXo (Lord Kwanghae)
    The Throne: krplus.net/bidio/Y9qcoHOmhWfVhqA (Sadoseja)
Both movies are amazing, totally worth watching. You will thank me later.

BTS have said many times that they don't want to talk about enlistment. They have said that they would go even if they were exempted. It's not a big deal to BTS because it's mandatory for all men in Korea. By talking about this, you are being disrespectful to their wishes.

Interesting analysis! I think the king represents yoongi himself in the past, though, so he's actually killing his old self at the end of the MV. This same message is also repeated in another track on the mixtape, 'Burn it', where he talks about burning his old self away. In his line about King Gwanghae, he says, 'A tiger who's gone crazy, Gwanghae flow'. The tiger is probably a self-reference, because in the next verse he says, 'Born a tiger, I'm not weak like you at least'. He said something similar in the song 'Give it to me' on his previous mixtape as well - 'I was born a tiger, I can't live like a dog'. This means in this line 'A tiger who's gone crazy, gwanghae flow' he's actually likening himself to King Gwanghae, who went power-crazy. I think it's possible that he feels like he kinda let all the fame and wealth get to his head a little, or at least felt overwhelmed by them and that he was starting to lose touch with where he came from, a theme repeated across the whole mixtape as well as Interlude: Shadow, so this is him making the decision to distance himself from whatever he has become, and to return to his roots. He wants to 'kill' his old self - in that sense, the rice chest metaphor is perfect, as he's essentially sentencing his old self to death.
I think what I find the most fascinating, though, is the strong theme of duality - the whole song feels like two yoongis fighting, and the MV is really just visual representation of this conflict. The tracks are a mix of 'i'm the best i've got big house big car and big rings' and 'i'm tired, i'm scared of flying and i just wanna land somewhere' - even within the same song you can find him alternating between these two narratives. Idk if I'm imagining this but he even changes his tone a little bit as he switches characters - he vocalises his lines differently and if you listen closely you can hear where one yoongi ends and when the other begins. I think he's wrestling with himself and this entire mixtape is a bit of a tribute to that battle - in a way, Interlude: Shadow served not only as an intro to the second arc of the MOTS story, but to this mixtape as well.

The way I see it, he's talking about how he became the "king" after they became famouse, and how he managed to tame that growing ego inside of him to make him remember where he came from.
in 고작 그런 이유로 약을 빨다니 애잔하기 그지없네 what I understood is that he's talking about how he managed to produce and write songs that were brining him success(꺾인 적이 없는 매출출출출출출출) and his ego liked this feeling of superiority (thus the thumps up from the king) but when he should be feeling the happiness of his achievments, he found himself struggling mentally and ended up having to take pills to cope with the feeling(not necessarily drugs). the whole song can be interpreted this way. I'm not the best at explaining but I hope you roughly get what I mean
of course understanding a song is very subjective and there's no right answer here, but it's another perspective I guess.

I think there needs to be some clarification about the post nut clarity bit. That definition is RARELY if ever used by Koreans anymore.
The most widespread usage of the slang refers to the realization that comes with being confronted with reality. 현타 (hyunta) OR 현실감 타격 OR 현실 자각 타임 literally translates to "hit with a sense of reality" OR "the time you become self-aware of reality"
While the nuance is vaguely similar, only because both definitions describe a sense of returning to a different state of mind, considering the context we can infer the correct interpretation.
In the preceding lyric he talks about having achieved everything he's ever wanted and ponders what is to come next. Suddenly he is met with the reality that there is nothing left above him and longs to look downward and land back on the ground.
I disagree that this line is meant to be a hard flex.
Yoongi and the rest of the boys have talked about this fear of the unknown and the anxiety that come with exceeding all expectations and reaching such heights on several occasions (previous interviews, lyrics (shadow), festa 2018, docuseries).
