- Point of Clarity: Guidelines state a maximum of 10 people or 50% capacity of the boat whichever is GREATER (The boat capacity was 90 people). Also, I did not see or treat patients until after following all guidelines for safe return.
Thank you for hearing me out. I made a mistake and I apologize. Do not let my lapse in judgment be used to hurt the science behind masks and the other COVID mitigation measures. @@ItsMeMiana he was a doctor that chose to be selfish. He knew that it was wrong. I wont be following anymore because he thinks it was not a mistake to go to Miami but it was a mistake he got caught.
He followed guidelines, but didn't think about the impact. Dr. Mike didn't believe he did anything wrong at first. There wouldn't have been any impact if people didn't see it. Once he was told he was wrong, he then realized his mistakes. That's what we are here for. To support him even through his mistakes!
@@ItsMeMiana I agree with you 100%. I'm disappointed in Dr. Mike's decision, but we all make mistakes. He followed guideline, but didn't consider the true impact that would have on people. If he does it again, he has no excuse. But I believe he has more good than bad! We shouldn't look at his one mistake, but look at the many ways he's positively impacted our lives!

@@afriendlycadian9857 It takes time to get test results and it takes time for a positive test. My mom tested positive dad tested negative, my dad got re-tested that same day and two days later had positive test. That's no excuse.
But in the medical field he is wearing a mask and taking precautions to make sure he’s not transmitting the virus the anyone especially people he is trying to care for. If he had it and was a risk the hospital he works at I’m sure would take precautions to make sure COVID-19 wasn’t spread by him.

@@halliegeary8701 He cited a source stating either 10 people maximum or 50% capacity. His photo have 15 people excluding the camera man and potential crew members. Way more than 10 maximum. His boat better be big enough for some 20+ people to be considered "50% capacity" which I actually doubt but cannot disprove. Regardless the logic behind the 50% capacity is obviously so people can socially distance and minimize crowds in an otherwise confined space. gathering 15 people for a photoshoot defeats the purpose of a 50% capacity rule.

Props to you for burying this so well, I had to find out from D'angelo Wallace about this (thank you D'angelo 🙏). I think your subscribers on your main channel might have liked to know about this dude. And I've seen my fair share of youtuber apologies, yours is not good, by any means. You are a doctor, a role model for people, and you spread one message only to go against it and endanger others. And then you go and hide it. You were going to receive backlash on it, so why hide it?
Dr. Mike stated he was very cautious at first, which proves that he does care about the pandemic. He just wanted to go out and have fun, Dr. Mike even did alot of research. He was under alot of pressure because he wanted to use his birthday present.
Dr. Mike said that he needed to do better, he said to attack him instead of the science.
Another thing is that people are attacking him for not posting this on his main channel, first of all, put yourself in his shoes. Wouldn't you be to embarrassed and ashamed of yourself if you did something like this? All of you are attacking him for not posting this on his main channel but I'm pretty sure 90% of you would not have either. You all are holding him up to double standards just because he's a doctor, doctors are humans to. Dr. Mike said he was sorry, he said that he loved all of us. Yes he is being hypocritical by telling everyone to stay at home while he went out on a boat trip, but that is ONE time, and he followed the safety precautions and was cautious about it. And i understand that a lot of people can't leave their homes or see their family members in this pandemic, myself included, and i know that it's hard. But staying inside for a whole year not seeing anybody and not talking to anybody can mess you up pretty bad, and i bet that in the last year you yourself have gone out with friends even if it was for a short time

Doctor Mike how can anyone believe you are sincere in your apology when you A) Manipulate the CDC guidelines to your benefit (Water activity includes actually being the water ie. Swimming. Not being on a yacht with 20 other people) and B) hide this video from your hugely influential main channel? This tells me that your bottom line is more important than the safety of your audience. the yacht capacity was 90 with regulations it's 45. He listened to the regulations, gets tested and went into quarantine...
@@gijanine3701 he didn't go into quarantine, he went to work immediately, just got tested. We all know that the virus has an incubation period, hence the need to quarantine, which he didn't. His tests could have been positive a few days later. He meets freaking patients!

I'm really disappointed in Dr. Mike.
I don't even know what to think about this. He seemed like a really passionate genuine guy. I get it, it was legal, you followed the guidelines and did your best to be safe. But you are a doctor. And you have a big platform. You have to lead by example and this is not a good one. Especially if you are seeing patients whilst mixing with others. He's human, he made a mistake, it happens. But this was a bad time and a bad mistake, he needs to do better. So I guess we will see.

Just because he’s big on a platform doesn’t mean we have to hold him to the high expectation of keeping a perfect reputation. Everyone makes some major mistake at least ONCE in their life, whether it be harmful to them or others. Dr. Mike did, he completely regretted it, apologized, and is actively working to do better and avoid making the same mistake again in the future.
Are we really going to question how passionate and genuine of a guy he is just because he screwed up once? Yes, he could’ve been exposed to COVID, yes, he could’ve gotten other people sick, but you can’t tell me that you’ve done something potentially harmful to yourself or others that you deeply regret and wish it didn’t happen.
Let people learn from their mistakes, let them grow and do better without questioning whether or not they’re truly passionate and genuine about what they practice and preach.

I just found out about this story. And I'm kinda dissapointed to be honest!
A) Your friends know you almost the best I think (it works like that in general). If they know how important is this for you, they wouldn't make a party like that, because they respect your opinion. They wouldn't make a party which goes into the trash instantly, because you turn it down. They knew you would agree. Also, you were in the apartment. They called you or I don't know like "hey Mike, meet us here please". You went there and had a swimming suit in your pocket randomly just in case you need it? 🤔 So all of these things are so messy and unlogical for me.
B) Yes, you are young. But at the same time you are a grown up man, a doctor and a person who choosed to be in the spotlight by being famous through social media. Yes, people will see the mistakes you make and yes, they will use you (some people tend to use others even when they aren't famous at all). You are a grown up man, so I just literally can't see why is it worth it to have a party on a yacht with poorly dressed girls, while you knew it could cause a huge problem for you in the future. Is it really worth it? A grown up man should know about the "intelligent risk taking". You didn't made a mistake, you took a risk just to have fun for 1 day. And as a doctor you should perfectly know about all the risks you took. You have all the background informations about the virus, so I just couldn't even say that you weren't aware of all of those facts.
C) I just found it super morbid and unethical that you even saw people suffer because of the virus. Maybe you even saw someone die after a long suffer. You saw people getting depressed because of the carantine. But after seeing all of those things you still decided to have fun. While maybe some people hearing out your advices, they are staying at home, they are getting depressed, they are skipping important family events, while you, who gave the advice, having a party on a boat. You saw people suffer after catching this virus, because it's spreading faster than other viruses in general (but again, I don't need to tell you about how this virus works, because you know it), and you still took the risk. One of the people who was there might spread the virus to someone who has a worse immune system than you for example. Because you only said that you made the carantine, but what about the others?
And just to tell you my "case" as an example. 2 months ago I had huge pain and fever. Like I couldn't even move. I asked my doctor (I called him on phone) to ask for advice/medicine/any kind of help, but he refused. He said because of the virus he doesn't want me to go there with fever and he don't want to help me through phone. He said I need a negative covid test. In that time getting the results of the test took like 1,5 week. Next day my fever went down, I still had pain. Because of that the hospital refused to send me on testing. But the doctor still refused to treat me, because I had fever.
I'm still having problems, but since I wasn't treated on time, they just don't know what to do with me, how to treat me.
So yeah, it would be kinda nice to "end" this virus as fast as possible, because I don't think that I'm the only person who didn't get a proper treatment because of the virus.
Don't take it as a "mean comment". I will probably still watch you, because some things you do here (I mean, on your main channel) is truly important. Take it as a "mirror", think about it and be more careful.

This past year I've met so many medical staff due to a severe illness... had I met you knowing you did this I would be hurt and lose all trust in you. You are a leader in our community, as am I. People didn’t attend loved ones funerals because of what could happen. My father passed when I was 13 and this year and last I was unable to visit his grave on what would have been 6th and 7th anniversaries. I had to spend the 7th anniversary isolated away from my friends when I would have been out with them in an attempt to distract myself from the horrors of that day.
We have out our trust in science, medicine, and in you (and other clinicians), therefore to see you meandering down a lake in a boat surrounded by 10+ people without social distancing or proper measures, and apparently without the awareness of what your own actions might do if somebody was to get ill, or (what has happened), you were caught, is incredibly debilitating.
I have been a subscriber of your channel for years, and while this won’t make me stop watching, i do want to see if you have/will change your actions to honour or acknowledge those who are smart enough not to go gallivanting away with your mates. Some of us have had to make huge sacrifices, myself being one of them, and the least you could do is acknowledge that. It’s too late now of course, but I hope next time you will think clearer about what you are doing, who might see it, and thus how it might impact people.

I think this stuff happens when popularity goes straight to your head. It’s sort of discouraging to see a well educated doctor not being capable of making sound decisions in a situation where the wrong choice can impact everyone.

He has warned others not to engage in risky behaviors that he himself ended up engaging in. THAT is why many people feel angry and disappointed about what he did.

You of all people should know how badly Covid-19 has affected people and taken away the lives of hundreds and thousands of peoples loved ones, and you STILL decided to go out. This was definitely not a mistake. Adding onto that, you posted an apology on your second channel in hopes of only a smaller portion of your fans seeing it.

Doctor Mike is not a coward he is a proud doctor and human being. He did what every person in this world did a mistake and he made this video to apoligize to his veiwers of what he did and did what he stood against. You might not accept that but you shouldn't write comments about how he is a sham and sellout when he isnt. He didnt sellout to anyone and he isnt a sham. Doctor Mike is a family doctor who help many children who are sick and through his many videos you can tell how he isnt a sham and look at all the people he helped and cared for and the deep and insightful information carefully placed in each video to inform us the viewer. He a coward for not posting this on his main channel, he didn't post it because it doesn't relate to his main channel enough to be posted there and is too short. This video is an apolgy video which doesn't fit in with the informative medical videos and a life as a doctor. Many comments talks about how y'all looked up to him and not anymore because he made a bad disiction. Also how his aplogy video isnt even a apology video. An Apology isn't only what he says in it, it also includes on it comes from the heart. Doctor Mike is a great person who helped many people during this pandemic and through out his entire carrier and will keep helping people until he reitires. Your comments don't help anyone and are selfish about how "I don't deserve this and how I gratudaed in quaratine and how I celebreated my birthyday in queartine. The negatyive comments on this video is not needed and can cause many effects to the menttal health of Dr. MIke. I watched my gran cry when she realised my cousins couldn’t come over for Christmas. I have not seen my boyfriend in months. I want to see the people I love more than anything in the world, I didn’t come home from university until I was tested twice and isolated. To here doctor, who preaches for everyone to take this virus seriously to keep everyone safe is partying on a boat cause they don’t think it will impact THEIR life? You have patients who don’t have the immunity they need to fight the virus. My parents are both front line workers and wouldn’t dream of it. As someone who looks up to you I am incredibly disappointed, especially since this video doesn’t feel like a genuine apology. What would have happened if you caught covid from one of your friends and they had a friend who had a shielding family member? Or if you went into work and spread it to your college’s and patients. That wasn’t a mistake to go on that boat, it was a choice. It takes one person to spread it to hundreds which you very well know and I expected better from you.
Edit: I just realised you didn’t even post it on your main channel, no wonder I’m not finding this out until now. If you are sincere about your apology, you wouldn’t hide the topic from your main audience

But you have to remember that not everyone is perfect. the fact that doctor mike had the guts to come on here and admit that he was wrong, and then *apologize* to people on the *internet* who don't even know him in real life is insane. How many people in todays day and age go out of their way to make a genuine apology to complete strangers. he took a covid test **three times** to make sure everyone around him was safe, and then didn't see any patients until after quarantining himself and following all cdc guidelines. he even put links to cdc and covid information so no one would make the same mistake as him. So many people ignore guidelines and don't wear masks, Mike did it and he felt bad about it, he understood and knew that what he did was unsafe but... did anything happen? did anyone get Covid or sick at all? I don't know. thats not my place or any of yours to know. my best advice: stop hating on the poor guy because he made a mistake when so many of you are guilty of making mistakes to. if you think what he did was wrong... well it was, he knows that, I know that. just get over it and move on with you lives. everyone on fucking earth makes mistakes.

Guys, I think the hate should stop. I came up to this video just now, and how people are calling him a "hypocrite". I am not here to take sides. He has made a mistake. I know. But he isn't the only one who attended parties and violated the guidelines. Honestly, I think that if anything, y'all should attack all, if you think what he did was wrong. I admit he was, but A LOT of other people did as well. I've seen many other times when people did things worse, and as long as everyone took minor precautions, that's all that matters. And most importantly, he apologized, so people should stop hating on him. He at least admitted that he made a mistake. He was tested negative and made sure that everyone was safe. Stop the hate and move on :)
