I could tell this guy wasn't a 'total gear head'; but, learned his cars through his love of sound and being a true professional, which is cool and very unique.
90 degree 5.0 is the best sounding V8 ever. Might be because Im American but euro v8s sound like shit
I'm surprised the 4.6 and 5.0 Mustang was not included, I always loved the way those sounded with that deep, echoing rumble. A Ford Flathead V8 speaking though some steelpacks is a great sound as well. But my favorite V8 sound- probably the 427 Chevy big block. The sound that engine makes gives me goosebumps.
I’m sorry but it’s just the rumble that makes the mustang sound bad like it just gives off a bit of annoying and good at the same time but it is decent

This guy just screams not a car guy, but a true sound guy. The way he was describing sound and the feel of it is phenomenal. James seemed like a little kid having a field day too. Good stuff.

He’s some what of a car guy. He can recognizes the difference in between a high reving motor from a low one, and he he can recognize a supercharger

@Hunter Kelley he's not a car guy. He doesn't know the difference between an upshift and a down shift. Thinks Shelby was alive to give his sister in law a gt350.
In school, I knew a guy who could tell you without seeing what car was going to come round the corner by the sound of the engine. He went on to be a rally engineer.

I love this guy. You can tell he wasn’t the biggest “car guy” but knew enough to distinguish the sounds between the engines. A true professional.
My list would have been a LOT different outside of the Ferrari but this was a cool idea and a fun video to watch It's a shame there wasn't much consistency in the quality of recordings across different models

I love cars with big engines, but can appreciate a well enginered ev.. imo everything under 6cyl can just go electric right away, not a big loss.. but lets keep v8,10 and 12 for a bit longer

As far as my personal favorite v8, it's gotta go to Audi's 4.2l V8. My first major car purchase once I started making some money was a 2009 Audi S5 MTM. Absolutely loved that car from the day I got it and still have it to this day.
Correction, James: The whine attributed to the supercharger is the sound of air molecules screaming in terror as they enter the supercharger, rather than the air being pushed through the supercharger.

As an audiophile myself, I detect hints of Joe Pesci overall, but especially Scotty Kilmer in Mark's upper rev range, with a tad less growl/ rasp and sub 500 Hz. It truly is exciting! :)

I really like how he is not speaking as if it is normal to know each movie that he worked on and still explains. That shows to me that he is still on the ground. Such a nice and friendly guy.

The Ferrari recording was so perfectly recorded and laid out that's why it sounded orgasmic. It had a great build up and release, the pacing was perfect.

My favorite V8 sounds are Scania V8 (diesel and huge turbo, oh yeah!) and Koenigsegg Agera. Great episode!

This is just how professionals speak, they don't want to sound pompous or like they are gloating about their achievements. It's more embarrassing to themselves if they assume the other person knows the movie/show/soundtrack etc, and ultimately they are not familiar with it.

I did a film decades ago called " Raiders of the Lost Ark" .... Legendary how subtle he was about it. One of the greatest adventure movies of all time!
Shelby would be disappointed by the fact that his sister-in-law doesn't drive that car, but that's just my thought

I'd have really loved to have a nice big block chevy in there but that 440 was pretty great too. I used to live next to a guy with a 1968 Plymouth Satellite with a 440 magnum but his was way louder than that recording you had.
Favorite v8 will always be the amg 6.2 they put in the 07+ c63. Sounds so raw

That was great! I would love to see a v10 and v12 episodes. And then, the Grande finale with all 3.
i have a 70 Maverick ive rebuilt. i run an old school 302 i rebuilt with 4 barrel. the cool part is its a street car and i run long tube open headers. as in NO PIPE or ANYTHING after the header collector. lol its so deep and rumbles like thunder. sounds amazing cruising along hearing every pop and crackle. sounds slightly better and alot deeper then the one around the 14 min mark.
This was sweet! Mark obviously knows what he's talking about when he's discussing cars, and that he was just casually dropping names of some of the biggest movies of all time that he worked on was hilarious!
I would definitely say that he knows a ton about sound mechanics, but I don't think he know too much about cars however. In my opinion, the f-type and gt350 should have been much higher.

@@isaaczman Why? The gt350 doesn't have much going for it. It just sounds muffled and restrained and lifeless, there's no character to it. [Maybe thats because of bad recording quality]
I like the f type's sound a bit better, but its like it's trying too hard to be cool.
The Ferrari had emotion to it, like it wanted to bite you. The 440 was the best IMO. The old v8s leave a great impression on your ears when they drive away from you

My Jag XKR with the variable time cams (coyote) is great, a Custom exhaust I did on a 46 Mustang GT was legendary, people in my neighborhood still talk about it!
But I had a 1974 455 Super Duty with straight pipe and series 40 Flowmasters for my best!!!
I had a friend who went through a few classic muscle cars back in the late 70s... he had a '73 455 SD Trans Am that was really sweet... he just had glass packs behind his headers. It was great, but unbearable to ride in. VERY nice car.

@@easygoing2479 awesome!! Wasn’t it ? I had a 1976 body with an automatic trans, 350 turbo, so I only got 2/3 or so of the full power due to not having the 4 speed manual. It was still a mind blowing engine as went UP a 3,333 ft mountain in NC at 110 MPH!! That mountain slowed EVERYTHING a down to 25-30! I defied a hwy patrol car to chase me, but No cop could Touch it!!

The recordings played a huge part in the impression of the sounds.
The GT350 was kneecapped by the recordings. That's one of the best sounding american cars of all time.

And don't forget the 2019 Bullett Mustang! For the 2019-2020 Bullett, Ford tuned the engine and exhaust to match the marvelous sounds from the movie - my wife and I love that V8 note!

I went to college for sound design. Audio Engineers are their own special breed, and this guy is peak example. Kinda wish I stayed in the field but was unable to make a living off it.

I actually agreed with his ranking and opinions about each sound, especially the Lexus and Dodge 440.
I'm disappointed you didn't include the F355, because that is THE most beautiful sounding Ferrari V8 IMO. Would have also been nice to include the 1UZ, 302 Cleveland, Lotus Esprit, Cosworth DFV and BMW M5 E39.

Best inline 6: Nissan RB (N/A or Turbo. Goes the same)
Best Boxer: Air cooled or GT3 N/A Porsche
Best straight 4: Ford BDA engine.
