  • @whistlerobinshouseandhobbies

I feel so bad for them. I once took my son with me out in a 9' raft on what thought was a good day in an Atlantic cove. The current was stronger than I realized and the oars proved to be too short for the situation. I fought with it for a long time and when I realized I was done we were in deep water headed for the open sea. We were actually out of the cove at that point and I could see down the coastline. A small yatch flew by further out. I waved 'help' to them but they didn't slow or signal back. I saw the wind pushing a sailboat fast down the coastline, and dark gray ship that looked like a Navy vessel. It was close enough that I could see the numbers on it and water coming out of a small porthole. The sight of that ship really scared me. We were fortunate that a man walking along the beach saw us. The wind was blowing out where we were so I don't know if he ever heard me yelling, but we waved the 2 armed distress signal and he waved to us and ran for help. The feeling of that moment was terrifying and unforgettable. I gave the raft to the Fire and Rescue Dept.

@Mother Algorithm No, it was the kind you could buy in a beach area sporting goods store. It was heavy duty and cost $150.00 in 1998. I went back and told them about the oars that came with it being too short. They agreed with me and said they would only be useful in very still water. A 9' raft is hard to row with 2 people in it. It's not pointed at the front like a boat.

@@ivyrose779 Thank you. I had never prayed as sincerely as I did in that moment. I kept looking at my son's sweet but frightened face. He almost jumped out of the raft. He wanted to swim to shore. It was too far and I was worried about sharks. I had to yell at him and tell him that if he jumped out I wouldn't take him to the boardwalk to play games that night. That sounds silly but I wanted him to calm down and focus on something else beside the fact that we were drifting away while we waited for the rescue. My eyes get tears thinking about that day. I hated myself for taking that raft out.
My son grew up and rescued a 6 year old that they found on the bottom of a lake. He had just taken a class that week on CPR. The boy had been missing for 15 minutes when a girl stepped on him. They flew him by copter to a hospital and put him in a coma 'to save his brain.' He seems fine now. His parents named their 2nd child after my son. I have photos of him getting 3 awards at 20 years old. My son was sent home from The Navy because his heart couldn't take the stress of Bootcamp. He has a concave in his sternum (breastbone) that won't allow that kind of excercise. He could have passed out on that hot day in July at a desert lake doing CPR and he knew it.

As much as it shames me to say I suffer from severe manic depression. I have had some very very low times. Even in my darkest moments the thought of putting my children in danger has never ever once even crossed my mind. A life has been cruelly taken much too soon and all people can do is cause more pain? I don't get it. Swimmer exhaustion is real. Getting swept up in currents and whirlpools are real. This woman gave her life to save anothers and people are still being disrespectful. Even if you aren't alone drowning can happen. What I fear is that if she had someone with her we would have had 2 drownings. If they saw her go under and tried to go in after her (which that would be 1st instinct because calling for help the help wouldn't get there fast enough to save her) and possibly drown as well. A girl from my town went for a ride with her friends about 4 total in the car and they had a accident flipped over into a creek. When the 3 others got to the side they noticed the driver wasn't out so they went in after her. They couldn't untangle her from the seatbelt and one of them almost drown with her. I’ve been to that lake many times and had no issues myself. It’s a tragic incident but that lake is for waterskiing, tubing, etc. It should not be prohibited because that is literally its purpose. They should just change the rules about life jackets and make it mandatory for adults to wear them if they’re gonna do anything. People drown everywhere so are you gonna ban everybody from swimming anywhere ever again?

I was there when a man drowned at the lake around 2009 and guess what he wasn’t wearing a life jacket. It’s not the lake thats the problem. It’s the poor judgement that people make when swimming in a big lake like that.

Ehhhh. A lot of this isn’t making sense. The lake isn’t that deep. Especially if it was anchored it means it was on shallow water. If she saved her son, she would’ve had to get her hands on the boat which means she could’ve easily gotten on there. If she knows she couldn’t swim, she would’ve gone out there with a life jacket (I wonder if any family members will say actually if she knew how or not)
Also, if she died in shallow waters, her body would’ve be easily found where the boat was. Why did it take days? Lake currents aren’t that strong. Hell, even ocean currents aren’t that small, when on the floor. Only way it could’ve gone that far is if her body floated, which would’ve made it easy to find as well. No conspiracy theories, but a lot of info is either incomplete or withheld.

It could have happened sure anything but I'm not sure where they are getting this all of a sudden. Any accident can happen but I would think if she was so close to the boat she could get on too unless she decided to swim far away from the boat. First the little boy said his mom was going for a swim and said she'll be back and now he said she pushed him back on the boat before drowning? Think about that. I think they're twisting up the child's words for a bigger story. Simply put: She went back into the water and told her son to wait there and drowned unexpectedly. She went too deep in and got swept away. Don't make this complicated and stop lying on children before we request his interview. Children don't lie even when you tell them to lie. They end up telling the truth. That's why they're all going to heaven. Small children. They're innocent. Stop trying to taint them.
P.S. Why she would leave her son on boat alone doesn't make sense either. Which makes it sound even more like she never intended to go that far under.

I’m so confused. Other reports said she grew up near this area and has been to this lake many times. How or why didn’t she know to anchor the boat? It obviously will slowly drift away from wherever they got out to swim. If she was able to reach the boat push her son up, why couldn’t she just grab something to hold on to or just pull herself up if she was at the boat already? Did the boat drift that far away that she had absolutely no energy left to get herself back on board?

I agree, I find it odd that she was unable to find a way to hold onto the boat, unless she was so exhausted that after she lifted her son she passed out and sank into the water. But it even then there still seems to be a lot of questions.

He said there are no currents or whirlpools in that lake but the winds can get strong. The pontoon boats are pretty light and probably got blown away from where they were swimming.
People with a lot of muscle like Naya have a hard time floating and they sink easily. He said it’s easy to get tired trying to catch up to the boat. And that often the person can get to it but don’t have the strength to climb back aboard.

This is so sad :( she grew up near that area so she got too confident and didnt wear her life jacket like she should. She must have panicked and inhale too much water. People should always wear lifejackets even if they are good swimmers. Whirpools even cramps can happen and make you panick. So tragic atleast the kid is safe

Kwality Kontrol they cant say without a doubt the anchor not being used is the DEFINITE cause of death. like i already said the only person who knows what happened is her son and he’s too young to fully comprehend everything he saw. all he said was that mommy put him on the boat and when he turned around she went under the water. so she was already at the boat but for whatever unknown reason was not able to get on it.

The fact that this little boy is now left without his mom, will most likely remember this happening and might be traumatized by it, it all really breaks my heart. My mom died when I was 4 years, and I can close my eyes and still remember her on the ambulance stretcher being taken away down the stairs like it was yesterday. The sounds of the siren wailing as it rushed down the street and the worry in my little body still haunt me- a source of the really bad anxiety I currently deal with to this day. I pray for her son that he does not have to relive this moment of his last moments with her in his head constantly.
