Take it from someone who lost his mum, when he was 9. It's truly world destroying. There's no way around it. And contrary to popular belief, time doesnt heal wounds. But it gets easier to accept. One day, it's going to happen, but keep in mind all the good you had with her. All the times she made you smile, laugh comforted you when you were down, guided you when you were lost.
And to top it off, I wish you the best year in your life to come. Keep your chin up :)

My mom is, in every sense of the word, a superhero. At 10 my dad got sick and lost his ability to walk. My mom became the provider of the family and worked so much to give us a good life. When I was 12, she was diagnosed with cancer. Even after her double mastectomy, she forced herself out of bed and into the car because she was the only on that could take us to school. Recently, her cancer has come back. Things aren't looking up. My mom always told me I could sing, but I've never been comfortable doing it in front of other people. I told myself that if she does go, if i find the right song, I would sing at her funeral... I found the right song :)

I just found that out when I was looking for songs about grief and loss because about 2 weeks ago I lost my grandmother, she was my last grandparent alive and I was very close to her as I was the oldest grandchild. About to make my best friend who is a choreographer choreograph a solo for me to this song and hold on by chord overstreet in remembrance to my grandmother

My mom died in a car accident when I was 3 years old. I was in the same car when the accident happened.
My aunt told me that they found me below the legs of my mom as if she tried to protect me in the last moment.
My aunt took care of me since then and adopted me. Now when I refer to "mom" I think of my aunt. I am grateful to be blessed with two moms in a life time.

Wow, I guess since you were 3 you weren't very sure of what was happening but just know that parents are the most important thing in life and they are the ones that raised you and tought you your ways of life, My mom had surgery and almost died I was so careful with her at the time and I had no idea what to do I was so scared of loosing my mom that I just stayed in my room and cried. Now a year later I listen to this song by my favorite artist and I cry every time, Thanks for this song Ed it makes me feel much more appreciated to have a mom and father that love me very much

I remember listening to this song when it came out thinking how sad it would be if I lost my mom and how this song would means a lot tomorrow me. Fast forward a few years and she just passed away a few weeks ago so now I listen to this and instead of sadness it reminds me of how much love she brought to the world. I just lost my mom on the 12 of feb, 2019. She had just finished her rounds of chemo last week. She died of a pulmonary embolism. She was at home, like she wanted, when she left us and this world. As i sat alone in my room this morning, this song came to mind. I immediatly started crying. I never thought in a million years this would happen to me. I am only 16. She was always talking about how she wanted to see me get married and have kinds. Now she is watching in heaven with our past dogs, cats, and her mother and father. I love you mommy, and i miss you terribly.

Always imagined them there at my wedding, imagined them holding my child one day...we cannot help what happens to us but we can help the way we see the world. Make what’s happened teach you some lesson, whatever that may be. Learn from every experience no matter how bad and live a better life - for your mother and for yourself. Stay strong x

it was already 6 months without her. she was the person that i love most in my life, I remembered ever single memories with her and i miss her every single seconds.
the thing i want to say is, if your parents are still alive, make sure to love them unconditionally because once they passed away, u won't get a chance to see them or talk with them again.
For me, i stayed by her side and spent her last days together, we talked about how she took care of me when i was young, we laughed together, and i stayed by her side at her last moment.

She didn't, she was long gone. Mom I love you so much may your soul rest in peace next to your beloved father whom you griefed on. Now I grief the both of you, my grandfather and my mom.

It's really been hard for me losing two of four members of a nuclear family 😭 . Anytime I listen to this masterpiece I feel better......

It hits the hardest when it's your turn to say goodbye. Death is ubiquitous and inevitable. My dad lost his life in an accident (2021). This was just months before my graduation day. He never got a chance to see me in that cap and gown. I never knew pain could cut this deep. Time heals all wounds, but sometimes it feels like time's just shredding me into pieces. I've come to accept i can't shake off this pain, i have to learn how to live with it. What gives me peace and relief is when God took you back He said Hallelujah! You're finally Home. In my opinion, you were gone way too soon. I'll never ever forget those 6 years I had with you mum, you're my hero. If I could turn back the time to when I was born to do it all over again, I would, in a heartbeat. When you died, my heart did too. Maybe one day you, dad, me and the boys will be together again. My mom died unexpectedly in Dec 2017, 5 months shy of her 80th birthday. I wish I had known about this song back then so I could have played it at her funeral, as many people have done for their loved ones. It is a recent addition to my playlists and today it came up and made me cry ugly tears cuz I’m missing her awful bad. Thank you, Ed Sheeran, for the man you’ve become, the songwriter you are. I shouldn't listen to this song because it makes me heave with crying everytime I hear it. the words in this song explain perfectly what it's like to lose your mum. my mum died 3 months ago after she was told her cancer was terminal 3 weeks before her death. the cancer then spread to her brain and she soon was unable to walk, write and eventually, make coherent sentences. I don't think she even recognised me in the last week of her life and I never got to say goodbye, I watched her slowly die in the hospital. fast forward 3 months and here I am, listening to this song, i think its just starting to set in now, i haven't felt this sad in my entire life. this song is so perfect for my situation and it's the only way I can bring myself to cry anymore. the flowers will always be something I remember, we were given so many flowers at my mum's funeral, from the supermarket and they were all in vases around the house until they died, and it was bare again.

Last week, I was on the way home from the hospital after visiting my 97 year-old Granny (she had a heart attack and a stroke at the same time). I went to visit her that night. When I left, I was listening to Ed Sheeran’s new album, and this song came on. I immediately started to cry in my car after seeing her struggling in that hospital bed. Last night, I came home after visiting her at the hospital once again, and I recorded a version that I hoped to play her - she always loved my singing. I woke up this morning to the heart-breaking news that my beautiful grandmother had passed away. Life is not something to take for granted - hold your loved ones close while you can. I love you so much, Granny. May your heart and soul rest in peace, and your amazing memories live on forever.
