OWNING A CAT 101:
1. Do NOT put their litter box and their food next to each other they don’t like it
2. Neuter your cat so they don’t spray on your furniture
3. Clean their litter box at least once a day or they won’t use it
4. They sleep on average 16 hours a day so don’t worry if your cat doesn’t do jack shit
5. A lot of cats like running water so you could get him a water fountain!

i’ve has cats all my life. they do not care if you keep there food near there litter. they also shouldn’t be spayed till there 6 months. they can drink out of a plain bowl just fine. and all cats are different so if your cat is comfortable then your fine.

Emily Bagdasaryan Not necessarily , I’ve had cats all my life but I’m still learning new things about how to take care of them properly, like not putting their water near their food, as in the wild they never kill and eat their food by their water source. Small timbits are always helpful 😁😁
In California, its a requirement for them to neuter/spay before they are ready for adoption from a shelter. So it is already done. Also, careful with the water fountains, they tend to grow mold inside bc of the moisture.

despite this video being very lighthearted, emma has an amazing point. whenever you are adopting a cat or dog or any other animal, it is so so important to go and see them first. because to be 10000% honest, you are not always going to get along with them. finding a pet that matches your energy and feels comfortable around you is best in the long run.

This is the step that I still have to go. I'm allergic too and that always stopped me from adopting. Guess I just have to do it like you, just go and do it and don't think to much about it. Just some friendly advice, get him a cat tree! :) its really important for cats to have an area of their own where they feel on top and like they can survey the area. Super glad you adopted!

for real. i got a kitten from a family that had a litter, they had a 10 year old daughter that was obsessed with him. her constantly loving on him for the first like 3 weeks of his life made him SUPER cuddly and affectionate by the time i adopted him.

Tip #1: if he doesn't use his litter box, he might be scared of/not know how to use the door. it might be able to come off depending on the box.
Tip #2: Don't put his litterbox near his food and water. it could spread bacteria.
Tip #3: use a quick release/escape collar, so if it gets caught on a drawer knob that he's rubbing against it would just come off, and not choke him

Seriously not enough pet owners do this and it 's just as important as a littler box. They claw it for stress relief, they sleep on it for comfort, they sit at the top so they can have a view of their domain. That keeps them from climbing on shelves and curtains. And put it somewhere they can see the whole room that is most used.

I went to that adoption center! It is an amazing one! If your ever wanting to adopt a dog or cat it’s a best friends establishment. I had 2 cats but one of them sadly died due to FIV (tbh I’m not familiar with that type of cancer) and after a couple off months my other cat got pretty lonely and we got a cat there name Nancy! We named her whisky and she is an amazing cat!

People rarely ever “buy” cats, at least from a breeder - because even if you get a cat from a shelter or “adopt” one, you’re still buying or paying a fee to take them

Not trying to argue here, but there is a big difference. A lot of shelters seem to be “good”, but put $500 on animals for some bs “adoption fee”
Horse Rider 16 17 78 sure, if it’s a flat rate, but a lot of shelters will charge like $450 for a puppy and $70 for an elder animal. Sure they’d need to make some income besides donations, but they still do profit then based off of potential value

_Here’s some tips:_
-don’t put his litter next to his food, they don’t like it and it’s bad for them
-get a huge tall scratch post (maybe 2) otherwise he will scratch up your house
-you should probably remove the lid from the litter box as *_most_* cats don’t like that
-because of they size of your apartment you should probably buy another litter box
-make sure to play with him everyday to get his energy out
-close they toilet lid as he could jump in
-*kittens* need to be feed 3 times a day at the correct portion size
-put his litter box in a private-ish area

VERY TRUE. The rule is to have one more litterbox than you do cats...so you need two. Which I think you've got. You're not gonna want it in your bedroom....
And yeah she definitely needs a cat tree because they love to climb....and they WILL climb, so better to have the tree than to find Declan stuck on shelf, in a kitchen cabinet, or on top of the curtain rod. 😱😻
