I remember in 2010, people were saying the same thing about the Seahawks when they won the division with a 7-9 record and then we upset New Orleans in the wild card round.
Would they have won that year if the game was played in New Orleans is the question.
The saints weren’t that good that year either. They just had an easy schedule and made it as a wildcard.
It also produced the best run in playoff history, the Beast Quake.
Afc West is the toughest every year. It's hard to look at teams at 6-7 leading the division

Tbh tho if you do re seed based in records, teams who are probably a game or 2 back of the division leaders would probably rest thier teams at this point in the season if it seemed unlikely thier not winning the division. I think that what makes the team more motivated to win. Sea and SF are not taking anything for granted cuz so much is on the line.
If you win your division, you should be guaranteed a playoff spot. That's it. All 6 spots should be record based after that.

I like the idea of both teams get one offensive series during OT, thus one team scored TD, the other team should get a chance to score a TD too.
People failed to remember whomever offense scored first during OT, whether FG or TD, wins game until the rule changed.

You play for championships. That starts with the regular season division championship. If you win that you get to host a playoff game as a reward for winning your division. If you fail

Keep in mind, you'll be playing in Cowboys stadium. You know those fans will amp it up for a play-off game, and the Cowboys, however terrible they've looked, have played really well at times.

NFC East 2019 is almost as bad as NFC West 2010
This is how i think it should be... if Saints win out and Seahawks win out then lose week 17 they will remain in the 2nd seed... THAT being one particular path... San Fran Should be 3rd Seed hosting Green Bay and Vikings should be 4th Seed hosting Dallas.. Better record should absolutely mean home field advantage...

I believe there should be a rule where if you are 3 Games better than any division leader in your conference AND you’ve beaten them that year then you have the option of taking their playoff division spot. Not kick them OUT of the playoffs but just home field. Sounds fair to me.
Even still This division thing is kinda stupid some years because of crappy teams making the playoffs and maybe a extra wild card spot per conference could help for teams who can’t get in over under achievers who are like 7-9. Even the giants in 2008 were atleast AT .500
I 100% agree with Trey and Mike. Yes, division winners are in no matter what, but you shouldn't be able to host a playoff game against a team who is clearly better and has a better record than you, never liked that about the wildcard, doesn't make sense.

The current system doesn't reward consistently good teams so much as teams lucky enough to have an easy division. Part of why the Pats are getting so much heat this season is that it's one of the first seasons in a LONG time they even have any competition in their division. No team should have to go on the road against a team with a record 4-5-6-7 games worse than them in the postseason. No exceptions. I don't care if it makes bad tv, it isn't logical!

I've thought about this a while. I think you should have to do more than win your division to host a playoff game. Think about it. That Trash nfc east! Now it's possible that my 49ers will have to go to one of those garbage teams stadium to play. If they didn't win another game, their record would still be better than nfc east. They should change the playoff format. Team with best record 1 - 6 is how the seeding should take place It's Ridiculious the eagles or cowboys will not have to Travel in the 1st round of the playoffs!

I wouldn’t change the playoff format. If you are the better team then you should be able to go on the road against an inferior team and beat them.
I think its more than that tho. This happens every few years where a bad division winner gets a playoff while a better team in a different division with a much better record misses the playoffs. More leagues like the NBA, MLB and WNBA are now just seeding by best records. It basically just doenst make any sense lol.
The NFL should not be like the NBA or NHL where half the leagues are in the playoffs. Unfortunately a team with better regular season record than the Cowboys might end up missing the playoffs because they are sitting behind two better teams in their division, ie the Rams and maybe even the Bears too.

I think it should stay the way it is, this way there is more of an incentive to win the division because you could get screwed if you don't. It makes it more exciting for the fans.
And people still think pro football is better than college. At least the college playoffs has elite teams.
I predict my 49ers will finish 13-3. They'll probably lose in New Orleans just like I correctly predicted they'll lose in Baltimore. Then the 8-8 Cowboys will host them and might even beat them.
If we go 13-3 with a loss at New Orleans, that would mean we beat Seattle week 17. Then it goes to tiebreakers unless Seattle loses before week 17. The tiebreakers will be crazy cause the division record will be the same, head to head will be even, conference record will be the same. Seattle and the niners have lost to the same teams in this scenario.
