Just because they aren't YOUR icons is irrelevant. 80% of the world don't look like you, so you can best believe there are millions of others here and around the globe who look to player icons other than Clark and Bueckers - neither Clark nor Bueckers have won anything. There's a world outside your comfortable silo - step outside enjoy the edification.

      @@cobra7282 - "most promoted" is more accurate. Anybody constantly promoted is going to become more widely known and popular than someone not as equally promoted. That's just common sense.
      Meanwhile the South Carolina team has led the NCAA in both home and away attendance for the last 8 consecutive, I say again, 8 consecutive years, making it the most popular team fans pay to see - not Paige, not Caitlin. Makes sense...their team record is better than Paige's or Clark's.

    • @cobra7282
      @cobra7282 29 ์ผ ์ „

      @@waldolydecker8118 It's a catch 22. They don't promote players that aren't popular, but being promoted makes you more popular. If you think it is unfounded that the all time leading scorer who is carrying a lesser Iowa program and the player that even the coach of Syracuse is saying is a top 3 player in the history of UConn than I think it is you that is reaching. As for attendance, what is a bigger feat getting 18k fans into the stands or getting 5+ million people to tune in on TV? We live in a time that we put all our attention on athletes over the teams they play for (most of the time) and thus great individual players are likely to get the promotion over the best team who doesn't have a true standout plyer like SC.

    • @waldolydecker8118
      @waldolydecker8118 29 ์ผ ์ „ +1

      @@cobra7282- I like Bueckers; consider her a better overall player than Clark actually, but regardless of what you claim the Syracuse coach said, Bueckers is NOT a top 3 player in UCONN's pantheon of Hall of Famers...having seen every one of UCONN's teams since Geno took over the program, Bueckers ain't even close to the top 3. Recommend you not take everything a coach says in a pre or post-game press conference as if it was written on tablets for Moses to bring down from Mount Sinai. The Syracuse coach's comment was nothing more than exaggerated compliments made before or after playing UCONN.
      Unfortunately your "feat" comparisons compare apples and oranges. Scientists and others who specialize in making comparisons will tell you that the only way you can make a true comparison between two entities is that you have to give both entities the exact same equal treatment in the laboratory, then evaluate the results. Since no other single player in the game has the benefit of the exact same multi-million dollar media promotion campaign behind them like Caitlin Clark, any comparison with Clark regarding attendance or viewership numbers is an asinine comparison...its like comparing the speed of two airplanes, after you only give one plane jet engines, then act amazed that that's the one that travels significantly faster than the other, lol. The only fair comparison with Clark is where the rubber meets the road: on the field of play. The head to head game on the court is the only true equalizer...the multi-million dollar promotion campaign loses most of its advantage during an actual head to head game - especially on a neutral court. This arena - not the media campaign influenced numbers - will let us know who is really the better all-around player or better team. We will see whoever is left standing after the next round.
      Clark was selected to be the face of the multi-million dollar push to further the growth of the game because of her demographic appeal to many of those who never followed the game. Normally this gig is awarded to the top player on the championship team, but marketers and investors felt that Clark, more so than the top player on the NCAA championship team, looks more like the majority of the potential new viewers, therefore these folk would more easily identify with Clark and would be brought into the game by this shared demographic. Iowa fans frequently tout Clark's "popularity" numbers with no regard for the multi-million dollar promotion push behind her that no other player is equally given. Take the top 10 NCAA players and give them the exact same multi-million dollar promotion campaign Clark gets and you will find that the gap between Clark and the others will not only close substantially, but one or two of them could conceivably overtake Clark in name awareness and popularity, especially if that player actually is the leader of a championship team or the top-ranked team.
      I would suggest that a team like South Carolina has several "standout" players - the school simply doesn't feature any one of them like Iowa does. SC has had multiple players recently who could rival Clark's scoring average, but SC's balanced offense limits them to less than half the shots Clark takes per game. A significant part of Clark's prominence is she's played 4 years on a team where she is allowed and even expected to take 20-25 shots per game; sometimes even as high as half the team's shots. At SC, some players have come from high school averaging 35 points a game on their H.S. championship team, but they agree to come to SC and be content to average only 10-15 points in an offense that emphasizes the unit and not the individual. Its a major sacrifice that many players would never make. Some followers of the game think this may be one of the reasons Iowa never signed better players during Clark's 4 years - top recruits were not willing to sacrifice their shots or play in the shadows of Clark's oversized media attention. Who knows. The sacrifice of SC players is commendable, considering everyone of them could be starting on dozens of other teams, where they would be the top player taking 20-25 shots per game, tripling their playing time, and improving their NIL, personal profile, and media accolades.

    Iโ€™d love to see a little more love for the Iowa team as a whole. They have a tremendous amount of talent, heart, and grit. They have the ability to score in different ways, they have learned and responded to all their losses, they play until the end.
    They are not the same team that went to the final four last year, but I think they are a more complete team, and I think everyone is ready to play whatever position is needed. Caitlin is awesome, but the Iowa team is not all Caitlin. Sheโ€™d say that herself.
    Itโ€™s also important to remember that they are missing a key starter in this series. Sydney stepping up has been no surprise, sheโ€™s a fantastic player, but it does change the dynamic and the fact that Iowa is responding like they are shows how connected they are.
    The key for Iowa to win with a bigger margin is having Caitlin share the ball, not dominate the points. The more she scores, the less flow the team has. Iowa needs three to four players in double digits to shine and they can do that with the talent they have, even with Molly out, although I agree it puts more pressure on Caitlin to set everything up.
    I also think West Virginia needs a lot of credit for taking Iowa out of their offensive rhythm. They clogged the lanes, made Iowa take uncomfortable shots, and forced Iowa to play a different game. Low scoring games for Iowa usually illustrate elite defense. West Virginia fouls a lot, but they were a constant annoyance for Iowaโ€™s passing game.
    At this point in the tournament any team should be able to upset a higher seed. The talent in the league is so good, and itโ€™s a one game playoff.

    It's just like ESPN to spin these lies and place Clark in a favorable light. Caitlin Clark was missing everything in the 4th quarter. She stat padded with free throws toward the very end. With two minutes remaining and the game tied, Affolter looked off Clark, who was yelling for the ball, and drove to the basket for an and one that changed the game completely. Clark should not be the #1 option in the clutch. Two years ago against Creighton, the game and Iowa's season were in her hands, and she blew an easy lay-up at the buzzer.

    In every game this year the opposing team took everything they had and tried 'to stop Clark' ..... that singular focus isn't there with the other stars in that they are surrounded by 5 star players. Even though UCONN has many injuries they still bring in five star players. I personally wish Paige had gone to the Minnesota Gophers ..... had she done that...... there would be tanks on the border of Iowa and Minnesota and a wall would have to be built.

    I get so sick of the question of who is better or the greatest. They play different roles. Caitlan plays on a team with only one five-star player, while Paige plays on a team with multiple five-star players. I'd like to see what teams have the most five-star players or the top 50 high school players from each year on their team. Uconn must have a ton.. Syracuse gave them a battle with less quality players. Briana Stewart is from Syracuse but went to Uconn, where she was surrounded by five-star players. She could have stayed in Syracuse, but she chose UConn. Catlin could have gone to a five-star school where she would be surrounded by five-star players, but she did not. Can't we say they were all great players without trashing the others?

    Shannon, turn off the Sheryl Swoopes podcast archive. Clark hasn't taken 35 shots in a game, let alone averaged that many.
