That's irrelevant bcuz Troy had arguably the greatest O lines in the history of the NFL. Mahomes greatest moments are when he is throwing on the run so he would be very good in the 90s

There’s no era defense for Troy Aikman, in 95 he only passed for 16 TDs while Brett Favre had 38! Aikman wasn’t even a top 10 QB in the regular season! He was a game manager on a great team.

I remember those cowboys of the 90's always playing my niners in the nfc title games. Those cowboys teams were efficient well oiled machines led by emmitt and that o-line. Aikman was always on point . He didnt need 300yds and 3tds to lead his team to a commanding victory.

Troy's offense was pretty much rock solid, allowing him to sit back in a perfect pocket and drop dimes all day. When Aikman did get hit, it usually wasn't pretty because they were all trying to take his head off. People fail to consider all the rule changes over the past two eras that now make the QB a far more protected player. Rings are a team effort.
Perfect pocket? That's why he had to retire early due to getting hit in the head too much, right? GTFOH.
Dan Marino 420 TDs in the same era, and a little earlier, as Troy Aikmen who has 165. The eras are different, but not that much different. Marino never had a good RB or good D.
Marino stood out more in his day than Mahomes does today. Everyone forgets that because he doesn't have a few rings.
Marino did what he did in an era when DBs could literally mug receivers all the way down the field, and obliterating the quarterback was encouraged. If he played in today's NFL no one could match his production. Mahomes and Farve are the closest anyone has ever come as far as arm talent. Marino was in a league of his own and anyone who argues that either 1. Is too young to have watched him play, or 2. Is a serious homer and would never admit he was better than their guy.

There's nothing wrong with defending Aikman for 7 minutes and then taking Marino. He defended Aikman against being compared with the modern game because it's completely unfair and so the only fair thing is as he said is to just compare rings. Marino on the other hand played with Aikman so you can compare them in everything right across the board not just rings so you're gonna take Marino. Marino was probably the most naturally gifted qb ever.

And I remember when Emmitt held out and the great Troy Aikman couldn't win a game. The Cowboys losing forced Jerry Jones to pay Emmitt. But, if you want to use the "QB gets all credit for leadership" narrative, so be it. I saw the great Cowboys team with Emmitt and Troy was simply the QB.

Aikman didn't sit a year to learn , he was thrown to the wolves and had on the job training . Dallas was 3-13 in 1988 , that's why they drafted so high to get Aikman . In his rookie year they were 1-15 , he was sacked 40 times . They built a team around him and he indured the growing pains . Mahomes was on a division champion team as a rookie 10-6 . So that's a stark difference in a team to become a starter with . Kansas City had the nucleus of a solid team . They followed up 12-4 , how many times was Mahomes sacked ? In a league that frees up receivers and protects QB's more and more every year .

Other QBs played in that day as well, if I'm not mistaking they were not outlawed in the game, so all the other teams that did win a SB also has QBs who had to deal with adversity and the rigors of a tough contact sport. That cannot be an excuse as to why Marino choked in the playoffs and could just never perform at that next level. It's like you all forget, there's only one reason they play a regular season. And that's to make it to the tourney. 10 out of 17 seasons Dan made the playoffs. He stinks it up in those 10 seasons. Check it out. 54 percent accuracy. Who's gonna put up with that? Lol!! The reason I don't like this? Because Football teams have so many players. Yes the Quarterback is the most important position. But he may never get a ring because of a bad O line. The rules are different. It's an easier, much more player friendly, quarterback friendly NFL. They start on the 25 yard line instead of the 20 when a kickoff is booted in the end zone. The Cowboys offense ran through Emmitt not Aikman but boy oh boy did he come through in the clutch time and time again on key 3rd down passing situations especially in the Playoffs when it mattered the most.
