Julian Edelman - Still at the top of his game, but without Gronk, he's taking all the double coverages. All defenses worry about is him.
N'keal Harry - Injured half the season, and McDaniels doesn't want to get him involved except to run go routes.
Phillip Dorsett - Started out having one of his best seasons but then got injured, is 50/50 every week as to whether he can play, and can't get into rhythm.
Mohammad Sanu - Started good but then quickly got injured, still learning the offense.
Jacobi Meyers - UDFA, very solid receiver, but still trying to carve a roll and create consistency.
Gunner Olszewski - UDFA, punt returner, injured.
Ben Watson - Came out of retirement, immediately got suspended, way past his prime, only good for one catch a game because defenses aren't scared of him and will leave him wide open.
Matt LaCosse - Solid pass catcher in the open field, but McDaniels only likes to use him as a blocker or as a wideout where he's easily outmatched by corners or safeties. Not utilized like he should be. Has been battling injuries.
Ryan Izzo - Blocking tight end, can make some solid spectacular catches but has the mobility and route running of a tackle, also has been battling injuries.
Sony Michel - Can't do anything due to obvious play designs by McDaniels where he's running behind an injured and weak oline where he's having to make 2 to 3 guys miss just to get to the line.
James White - James White
Rex Burkhead - Solid all around back, nice complementary back, but has no business always being lined up on the outside against corners.
Damien Harris - Typically inactive.
The oline: Down to third string center, having to play tackles that were traded for a week before the season started due to lack of depth. Not one starter has been able to play the full season.
James Develin - IR., in his place is run stuffing linebacker.
Jacob Hollister - Traded before the draft.
Demaryius Thomas - Cut to make room for N'keal Harry to be put on the eligible to return, traded to Jets to make room for Antonio Brown.
Antonio Brown - Cut after one week, has been begging Kraft to resign him.
Josh Gordon - Put on IR as he was getting healthy and then cut.
I mean, Jules and White are his only guys that he can get production out of. Everyone else is injured, still learning the offense, or past their prime. Edelman is getting doubled every game, but he's still having one of his best seasons of his career (probably because he's the only one that can get open), and White is a back that will always draw a corner and will be treated like a receiver so his best option is to run routes and screens out of the backfield until someone, anyone can get production out wide to help draw that coverage off.

Belichick is essentially content with Tom to put together 20 play drives that end in field goals or at least eat clock and have the defense win the game. That only works against trash offenses. The ten wins the pats got were against trash offenses. The two losses were against good offenses. I know “defense wins championships” but “good offense always beats a good defense” and that’s assuming the pats defense truly is great and not overrated like it may be. Yeah if the other team doesn’t score, you can’t lose. However, if you can’t score, you can’t win.
