I get that they always say they want the best teams as FSU isn’t as good as Bama without their QB… but you can not say one team is better when the results on the field should matter. The way they look at things has to be overhauled. This was a disgrace to sport and competition that a committee could subjectively disregard results on the field.

Results on the field do matter which is why Texas got in over FSU also. FSU struggled to beat Louisville. They put up 3 points in an entire half and didn't score their first touchdown until almost midway thru the 3rd. FSU had a 55th SOS, worst of the entire top 8. Louisville got upset by Kentucky, who didnt struggle offensively, who also got absolutely dog walked by Bama. If FSU would've beat Louisville 42-10 or something like Texas did to OKST, the committee would've probably put them in and said well the QB isn't an issue the offense still works. But they didn't.

Alabama _barely_ beat three unranked teams by 3 points, and those teams were Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Auburn, a game that took a miracle to happen, no less. And they only beat unranked South Florida 17-3. So their supporters shouldn't talk about FSU "barely" doing _anything._

Fun fact: Cardale Jones first start was in the BIG 10 championship game; he threw for 3 TDs and OSU won 59-0. By comparison, the FSU QB was 8/21 for 53 and FSU won 16-6.
Other fun fact: Stop trying to compare a great OSU team who dominated with a 3rd stringer, to an FSU team that limped there way through an extremely weak ACC schedule, it just makes you look foolish.

Michigan sat behind Ohio State and Georgia in the rankings because the meat of their schedule was at the end and they didn’t play anyone to that point… Florida State was still up there. Ahead of even Washington much of the time. All until their QB got hurt.

Expanding it won't fix the problem though. The problem is too many teams and unbalanced, huge conferences. There's going to be similar problems under any expanded playoffs.

@@OperationPitbull Per Howell,. the ACC is extremely close to the Big 12 in quality and not far behind the Big 10. The gap between ACC and the best G5 conference, Sun Belt, is over twice the gap between the SEC and the ACC. In other words, yes they absolutely should be.

I live in Washington and thrilled the huskies are playing in the Semifinals, HOWEVER they should playing FSU. A team that did everything asked of it should not be excluded solely on the basis of losing their quarterback. There's dozens of other players & coaches that worked their butts off and should be rewarded. FSU has a GREAT defense and defenses win championships... except Florida State. They were robbed of their opportunity.

The committee changes their opinions quicker than a hummingbird beats its wings. They let in an Ohio State team with a 3rd string QB in year one of the playoff when everyone thought TCU was better and they won the national championship. You never know. NOW we get a power 5 school that doesn't even have to worry about having the same record as they were undefeated still not be considered. It's ridiculous.

My question to each of you is if you were the head coach of either FSU or Georgia, would you risk an injury to your star athletes playing next year by having them participate in the consolation game? Already earned the $6 million for the conference so I would give the second and third stringers some experience and also offer some "boosters," who contributed at least $1 million, a chance to suit up and kick a field goal. All about the money anyway! 😊
I won't speak for UGA, but if I'm FSU I think they have two options. 1. IF they get buy in from their players that they want to make a statement and have no opt outs then I think they should play and do everything they can to make the committee look foolish
2. If some of their star players want to opt out and prep for the bowl than I would show up to South Beach, give the seniors a vacation. Have a mini-camp for the underclassmen, and refuse to take the field in protest.
Neither team should even touch the field. Send out the cheerleaders and marching bands to collect the consolation checks. Middle finger to the CFP from both teams.
Another factor is Florida State held the number 4 position in the rankings for sometime . Also you can't judge quarterback play today when the game is a month away and given time to improve . What happens if one of the teams loses a quarterback to injury at practice . Do you remove them and place the next team in as a alternate .
My thought is they could not leave a sec team out of the playoffs . To much revenue lost . This was a business decision

The committee’s rules have always stated that injuries that might affect playoff performance will be taken into account when making the final rankings. Whether you agree with it or not, this isn’t some new rule that the committee just made up last night.
If an SEC team went 13-0, lost their QB, and barely won their conference championship game, I feel that the committee would put in that SEC team. Y'all did FSU and their fan base wrong. Should probably expand the playoff to 8 teams to get Powerfive champs in and include all deserving teams. I'm a Texas fan and this Playoff lineup is awesome. It's tainted without a deserving FSU.

If FSU beat them convincingly maybe they could’ve stomached the possibility of having the ‘Noles at 4. However, when you combine the fact that FSU won ugly with Alabama having only 1-loss as SEC Champ AND not wanting a repeat of TCU vs Georgia…..it makes sense, it’s not fair but it makes sense.

So the message that every team should take away is that if you loose a starting quarterback late in the season you should hang up your championship hopes. The rest of your season does not matter, what you as a team achieved does not matter. This current iteration of the committee should see itself out as they have shown they are on par the BCS system.
Yes, if you lose your starting QB and your backup who most likely be playing looks like hot garbage, then yest you lose your championship hopes. Injuries happen all the time. Should games just be delayed because a starting player gets injured?

Just cause people may think Alabama would beat FSU without Travis doesn’t negate FSU being unbeaten and winning the ACC. It needed to be 8 teams from the very beginning. 4 is a very small sample size when a potential champion could be lurking at 5 or 6. Good thing they're going to 12 teams next year.

This would have been a great year for the 8 team playoff
I never thought I'd see 3 power five conference teams go undefeated along with 4 more having just one loss during the regular season, considering there was no one dominant team in the SEC, Big 10, Big 12 and Pac-12. Relatively speaking, Michigan can be considered dominant in the B1G, but so can Ohio State. Washington dominated teams in the Pac-12--yet Oregon dominated everyone else. I predicted Texas would do a cakewalk over all of their Big 12 opponents until Oklahoma nearly spoiled their CFP chances. I previously thought Georgia was the dominant team not just in the SEC but in all of college football until they got upset by Alabama in the SEC Championship Game.
However, the ACC did have one dominant team and that was undefeated Florida State. From that perspective, this was the biggest CFP snub of 2023.
That being said, if Florida State beats Georgia in the Orange Bowl, that would make the CFP committee look like idiots for not including FSU in the CFP.

There is NO way that 13-0 FSU should not be in the CFP. It's even more impressive that they were able to finish the season undefeated after losing their starting QB - that shows just how good they are as an overall football team. Judging them by whether or not they have their starting QB healthy is irrelevant - football is a TEAM sport! FSU has players on both sides of the ball that have a legitimate shot at playing on Sundays. This system needs to be expanded to at least an 8 team playoff, so this type of situation never happens again...

The problem is that you'll have like 2-3 extra weeks of playoffs, increasing injury risks. Easier for basketball, but football is different.

I just don't understand how an undefeated team ranked 4th, wins its conference championship game against a team ranked 14th, and gets passed in the final rankings by not one but two teams that were ranked 7th and 8th.
Get this - TCU lost their conference championship last year to 2-loss Kansas State. The dropped from 2 to 3, played Michigan in the semifinals and got blown out in the championship. Georgia lost to Bama by 3 in a tough battle and we drop from 1 to 6? The committee is a joke. Absolutely unbelievable. Go Dawgs, sucks their season ended like this.

The difference is the fact that every team looks great this season, a 2 loss team was barely in the top 10 this year while a 5th ranked bama was 2 loss last year. Team strength was crazy but this year

But the main thing is it takes away control for the richer univerities and the crooked commettee establishment they set up. The biggest problem is that Bama & Georgia should play each other in the regular season,, its crazy and suspicious that they don’t. Georgia won a title last year without playing Alabama and they both are in the SEC,, that was bogus. So I looked at this year SEC championship game as a playoff game for both teams
Because Alabama and Georgia are in different divisions in the SEC. Georgia is on Alabama's schedule for the next to years (home and home) and then another SEC East team will rotate on their schedule. Alabama and Georgia can't play each other every year due to being in different divisions.

Now that the championship matchup will take place Monday, I’m understanding better the reason(s) why Alabama got in and FSU was left out:
Because injuries are taken into consideration and we see the team before and after injury, it was clear FSU as a team was affected notably and because they didn’t have Jordan Travis, they really only had one or two games to evaluate on for Tate Rodemaker and Brock Glenn and those games they clearly were a different team than the other 11 that they had Jordan Travis. Each team that got in had its top contributors and important skill players, and was able to function nearly as well if they had any losses. The main loss any of the top 4 teams had near the end was Zak Zinter of Michigan and against OSU, they scored 13 points after his injury after having 17 before. They scored 26 against Iowa after 30 vs OSU, and post CFP reveal, 27 against Alabama. They still were consistent despite the injury. FSU wasn’t and that’s how I’m seeing it a month later. It isn’t a fair world but reflecting back, it was the right thing to do.

I expected that. Being that next ear we are going to 12 team playoffs, this was the last year the committee could control NCAA football. Their last flex before somewhat normalcy.
The 12 team playoff was supposed to start this year but the commissioners of the ACC, Big10 and Pac12 put up roadblocks and it got delayed a year. Also, there will be still be a committee next year and the will select the 6 non conference champion teams.

I think Florida State got left out because of the injury and then started a true freshman with 4 plays under his belt. That to me was the straw that broke the camel's back. I know you can't please everyone but 13 wins and no losses speaks for itself! I'm heartbroken for Florida State. But, then again, Alabama beat the returning two time champions! I would not like to be on the selection committee! What a tough decision! The only way this decision, to me, will be justified is for Alabama to win it all. I just feel bad for all those players for Florida State! I think the Georgia Bulldogs got ripped off as well! They don't even get the opportunity to defend their two time , back to back championships! Just my thoughts.

I get how you feel. Texas got shafted in 08 when ou, a team we beat by 10 on a neutral site, got a shot over us, to play for the title. We did lose a game that year, like OU, but that was literally in the last second to the #8 team in the country in a hostile environment.
