This is far better than 98% of kicks being touchbacks.
Touchbacks might increase with this rule, every kicker will be aiming for the back of the end zone
@donlitt they can't if it goes into the endzone without landing in the landing zone it means the offense gets the ball on the 35. It also means it has to he returned if it is in the landing zone and doesn't go out of the back on the endzone.
@@winssports4830 it’s gonna be hard to keep returners contained so id imagine a lot of special team coordinators will just take the L with the 35 yard touchback
@@donlitt that would be crazy lol. Mahomes always being on the 35 🤣.
Gooddell is ruining the NFL
Watching a guy potentially running a kick off back has been missing from football for a long time and it's great to see that come back!!
Please dude this is pathetic, just move the kicker back 5 yards, this is ridiculous. Boycott the NFL
@user-fn7xh3jc6y I can't say I disagree with you on that, just do whatever to get some kick returns!
They need to approve a review ref the xfl has.
Make skyjudge great again
That hip drop tackle rule is still whack😂
no its not. it was cheat code for slow dudes to stop speedsters
You can still do a normal hip drop tackle. Only the highly dangerous swivel is banned
@@misters4022bro what?? It’s mostly used for trying to stop someone’s forward momentum or tackling a bigger player like a tight end, it’s just dangerous because they dropping the whole weight on there legs and ankles look at dak when he dislocated his ankle
Only wack to people who dont play football...
@@BabyGlock- yeah U basically articulated wat I probably shouldve said. That Dak tackle is a perfect example why it should be banned. Lowkey this rule will increase offense as well
What color are the team flags going to be? and are they attached to the uniform are they on a separate belt?
Pink obviously. Unless it offends them
😂😂😂
😂
What happens to the onside kick???
You can still do an onside kick like normal, you just have to inform the ref beforehand that you're gonna try it. So no surprise onside kicks
The XFL onside kick is a 4th & 15 from their own 25 yrd line. i assumed the NFL would do the same
@@boredom247no they said it will be the same normal NFL onside kick.
Can only do it in 4th quarter also
And aparently unless they changed it only 1 time per game
The XFL had a high return rate so it sounds like a good change for the NFL.
I understand that this is for the players safety,
but we can all say goodbye to kick return yardage now. 😂
It's been gone. If anything this brings it back
@@austinrivers5088 How? When the defenders are like 10 yards away 💀
@@BaynesBrosit gives special teams coordinators the ability to set up double teams and plays, which could clear a lane for the runner. As well as there’ll be wayyy more returnable footballs as opposed to always kicking a touchback. I think we might actually see more kick returns, who knows though we’ll just have to see.
@@Tittin414 yeah I guess you’re right. I’m definitely interested on seeing how this plays out
great change NFL
NOW BRING IN ALL GRASS FIELDS AND ONSIDE KICKS
Onside kicks haven't went anywhere (they should make it easier tho)
@@Yoni123 i believe this year theyll only have onside kicks only when. you are down in the 4th. BS rule
@@misters4022 but whens the last time you even saw anyone attempt one outside of that scenario anyway? i agree it's pointless to add that stipulation but honestly i don't think it will really matter much anyway
@@mattcarberry368 tell that to sean payton 2nd half kickoff in the superbowl
@@misters4022name another
Awesome! Each day brings me closer to that beautiful day when the NFL will be officially UNWATCHABLE!!!!!!
Special Teams matters more now.
Years ago people said the NFL would become the NFL stupid that's way you shouldn't changed the game every year
this is stupid. you can just squib it right near the defender everytime and there will be no touchdown returns
It'll certainly separate great kickers from decent kickers in the NFL. You'll want a kicker capable of hitting it very deep or hitting it to a specific spot every time.
So as soon as they break a tackle at the line its an automatic return for a td? If everyones on the 35-40..... theres going to be a kick return for a td every game
The kicker can just kick it super far out of bounds so the returner doesn’t have a chance
I remember the good old days, when a player got knocked out and the opposing team celebrated such an amazing hit.....not stopping the game to pray smh. Football is so soft now smh
How will the squib kick work?
It wont
I think it's a great idea to try new rules packages in the spring league, and if they are successful, adopt as prudent to the NFL. I think this will be the first of quite a few changes brought about due to the freedom to tinker in the UFL.
Don't forget the addition of soft team colored pillows on the feild to lay the kick returner down on when you tackle him
it will be interesting to see how teams strategize this part of the game.
Very important to change the rules EVERY SINGLE YEAR
Remember: *Every Kick is an Onside Kick* (ie, the ball is live on every kickoff).
Given the location of the players (≈ 35 yard line), the onside kick is about to be *BANANAS*
This rule change puts the risk-reward (of every kickoff) in the kicking team's favor. Every team should just squib kick every ball to the *Line of Scrimmage* .
• Major Point #1: A good scheme will pervert this new rule into obsolescence
• Major Point #2: The first-team-to-score will have a dramatic advantage in every single NFL game
• Major Point #3: Nobody should ever declare that they're going to do an "onside kick"
This rule change was made with good intentions, but it has fatal flaws.
Somewhere, Jon Bois is smiling.
Loved it when the xfl brought this in and was sure it would be something the nfl would look at.
What about onside and squib kick. Also gonna be interesting to watch in bad weather but yeah at least it something new
You have to declare and onside kick before now. Squib kicks are useless now
Love the idea of the new rule hopefully it works out. As far as the onside kick, get rid of it, if the team wants the ball back you give them essentially a 4th and 15 you make it you get the ball as you would normally if not other teams ball.
I absolutely love this
Good change. Kickoff was such a fun play
now change the OT to the college format!!!!
no that's a lame gimmick shootout
keep football real in overtime
Just go back to ties if they are so worried about injuries
No, keep the kid zone to the endzone.
Bart said - I take my comment back. This is STUPID! 😆😆
This brings more returns which I like, I am all for it
This is way better than what we had last year. Ofc I wish we still had the old version but this def an upgrade and I can’t complain. Unfortunately, the surprise onside kick is over and done with this rule change
What about punt offs though?
Should've just change to cfl rule. Where u have to give 5 yards to the reciever eitherwise it a 15 yard penalty
Ok now let's introduce the flags on ball carriers hips to replace tackling.
Jacoby Jones and Devin Hester would have a field day if they were still in the league…
THIS IS A GREAT CHANGE. Tbh idk how we were letting players hitting each other at full speed starting 50 yds away lol
Scoring is about to go up. Over/under trends based on stats for the last 40 years are out the window 😅
Can’t you still kick it out the back of the end zone?
what about onside kick?
Instead of onside kicks they should have an option where the team that just scored has an option to keep the ball on there own 20 yard line and it's 4th and 10. If they convert they keep the ball. If they don't it goes to the other team at that spot.
Actually like this change.
I think onside should be the old way though straight up kick and immediately go but cant touch until 10 yards. Somewhat like the scrum. The option should be the 4th and 15 or 20
I appreciate Bart Scott shouting out the legendary return men of Devin Hester and Dante Hall. They made returns must watch plays with their electric and exciting returns instead of what it is now, a bathroom, beer, or snack break.
One key difference is that nobody gets hit on touchbacks, but still 80% of kickoffs will still be touchbacks, maybe even more because you don’t want to take your chances giving up a big return
Touchbacks will now come out to the 30-yard line.
That look 🔥
My Dolphins funna have tyreek return kicks for sure now..😂 I can see him breaking returns sooo easily.
I like the idea. People are complaining about how it makes the onside kick even more irrelevant, but they haven't been useful for awhile now.
How about go back to the original kickoff format, forget about injuries, I want high speed collisions.
Are we going to start to see massive kickers as a last line of defense. I feel like this would be easier to return a TD than the old way, no?
No more surprise onside kicks. It has to be declared. Not so bad when one team is down multiple possessions with less than a quarter to play. One would be expecting it, no ? And one can have an imbalanced side now like in the past . Was better when one team could line up 9-10 players on one side. That was always cool to see.
There’s gonna be a lot of kick return TDs. Turpin is licking his chops right now.
So no more surprise onside kicks?
Devin Hester was so good he ended the Kickoff. How is he not a Hall of Famer?
Kavontae Turpin is about to have a big year especially since they banned the hip drop tackle😂
If they really want to make special teams more important, bring back the old onside kick rules but only if it’s tied or you’re trailing!!
So they are trying to make the scores higher and esepsically since the defense can tackle from behind via due to injuries
Kavontae Turpin is fixing to make house call after house call ⭐🤠
xfl is really good, and nfl saw it and they were like yea lets do that! hahah
Thats sick
Oorrrrr we can have Grass fields like the players want
So how does an onside kick work now?
probably the same
Just watch the video, then take in and digest the information; there you will find answers you seek.
declare it before the kickoff (which means no surprise onsides anymore which i don't like but honestly it almost never happens anyway)
then they go to the traditional lineup except now you're allowed to load one side of the field with an extra player to recover whereas before they were forcing you to go 5 each side regardless, so there's at least SOME advantage added to onside kicks now compared to before, again only other difference is it has to be declared
This is pretty interesting
What about penalties that are enforced on the kickoff?
This is great for the betting industry!! 💰💰💰
Is this for that playoffs too?
Yes
MCDC,AG;&Fipp Flip! 🙃🦁
I like this rule it’s actually better than the hip hop ban
Jeff saying onsides instead onside is pissing me off
Ok great, but what about the onside kick.
I agree that having to declare ur going for an onside kick is stupid. After the tackle ban yesterday n now this? The NFL is finished.
Need to change the onside kick. Allowe teams to go for a do or die 4th and 20 and if you convert, the offense stays on the field. Onside kicks are one of the most useless scenarios in all sports
So what about onside? What abput touchback?
The NFL is becoming more and more like the NBA with all the rule manipulation to make players like Mahomes and Lamar Jackson look good by making their playmakers impossible to tackle in the same way that you can't hand check skinny players like Curry and Giannis without fouling out. Money continues to take the integrity out of professional sports. It's also ruining college football with the Big Ten and SEC guaranteeing that they'll produce the next twenty national champions.
U think fans wanna see 7-3 games or 28-27.
@@scruffd0g193fans wanna see football. Consumers want whatever gets shoved down their throats lol.
i'll never understand people who say kickoff returns are the most exciting part of the game lol THEY 100% ARE NOT.... most of the time i'd CRINGE when my team would bring a kick out, because in my mind it meant they were more likely to get a block in the back or a holding flag, and the 1% of the time where a big return might happen doesn't negate the other 99% of the time where the kickoff is a great time to get up and go grab a fresh beer from the fridge without missing anything
The NFL owner's meeting every year is like congress now. They have to pass new laws every year to make us think we need them! We really dont. The NFL can do fine without new rules every year, so can the USA without new laws!
Just like the xfl kick off I love it
Oh wow bro. 😮
Needs to go back to the original version.. No more worrying about getting hurt
What about onside kicks
Ok
OK, so basically we just don’t get to watch good defense anymore we can’t hip drop people which is the only way for a smaller cornerback to tackle a larger player and were taking field away from the defense to protect. what’s next do we have to yell out to the offensive if we are in zone, man or blitzing?
I do t want to see kick off TDs I want to see hits 💥💥
It doesn’t change the fact that most kickers can still easily get touchbacks every time.
Touchbacks are going to be on the 35 yard line if you sail it thru the end zone, so you won’t see many kickers intentionally touchback
@@rickhaavisto9023 but the return man’s chances of getting to the 35 are gonna be pretty good. So some coordinators may just take the L with the touchback.
@@rickhaavisto9023 Touchbacks are still moved to the 30 not the 35 pal
@@trevmac8362 Good eye, 35 was the XFL, I heard an interview that 35 may be on the table if the touchback rate doesn't decrease enough
@@rickhaavisto9023 Not so much a good eye. I actually just read an article on ESPN about it. *Cheers*
So NO onside kick opportunity now?
Going to be a record high on touchbacks this year... to the 30 is nothing...
Bart Scott was a pretty good football player. This man does NOT belong on TV as a talking head. His takes are always wild, and most of the time he says nothing of value. Most of the time hes on, he's just complaining or trying to get people to understand his horrible takes😂
I've been saying that about Bartholomew.
That is unreal
Okay, so bc there is no surprise onside kick, I’m against it. You can’t get away from that… that takes away from the game and you just can’t do it. I guess Madden 25 (if it’s named that) will be unique this year tho with the new kick off.
So the onside kick is truly dead.
Why bother. Just have the offense start on the 25 yard line.
With some returners they are going to start kicking it out of bounds just to stop them at the 40
“Remember when” yeah that’s never gonna happen again. That should be the sentence that ruins our game. Welcome to cheerleading fellas. Two teams leading ew h other through organized routines. Basically what we watching. Thanks Roger.
So no more on side kicks?
watch the video lol i know it's longer than 30 seconds and people struggle to maintain focus longer than that these days, but the answers are in there
(but yes there are still onside kicks, just have to declare and they changed the rules on formation so you're actually allowed to load one side for the recovery attempt, theoretically increasing the possibility of recovering)
Who gets injured on kick off??? The want more points scored
Plenty of concussions on kickoff. This will also create more scoring opportunities while limiting injuries as well.
This is better cuz I don't want to go through another season of touchbacks.
so no onsides?
Make Kickoffs Great Again" XFL Scramble
What’s next for the sake of safety? Maybe restrict NASCAR, Indy, and Formula One drivers at speeds no faster than 35 MPH. Or restrict prize fights to belly and shoulder punches and 3 round bouts.
That will definitely save a few concussions
NFL players can get up to top speed in 5 steps, tell me they are not going to hit as hard.
they are not going to hit as hard.
Not when blockers are put right in front of them
I love it
Did they forget about the punt. High speed collision will still be there
