If those major sponsors didn’t threaten to pull out from the team they would’ve kept the name as the Redskins
Correct. The sponsors did the threat because they wanted to get out ahead of the public. It is better for them to change the name now, rather than have people boycotting their products because of their association with the name. It is like how all those companies are pulling their ads from Facebook. They don't want to lose money because of the association.

I'm a Cowboys fan, but if I was doing an all time team, Darrell Green would be my first CB. I'd take him over Deon any day of the week. In fact when Deon played for DC, Green eventually was put above him on the depth chart. Father time never took away Green's speed while he was playing. He was still clocking insane 40 yard dash times well into his retirement.

Gary Clark of the Washington Redskins conducted at least 3 football camps at Native American reservations during his career. He wanted to know if they thought the Redskins name was racist. What he saw was Native Americans wearing Redskins gear and saying that they were proud to be a Redskin fan and the 5% that weren’t Redskins fans were Cowboys fans and that’s why they didn’t like the name.

The name and image bares a dirty little secret.
They were the Boston Braves in 1932 and became the Redskins in 1933, so this "record" of most consecutive seasons before changing their name is incorrect. And even if it were correct, the Detroit Tigers still have them beat.

I was born in 1979. Dad born 1950. his dad born 1920.Granddad born 1898. Great Granddad 1877. Great Great Granddad was a slave and everyone else in my family was slaves back to the 1700's. None of these men could pass down anything to the next generation. THIS IS WHY REPARATIONS ARE STILL OWED. After slavery we had semi slavery aka debt peonage. After that we had Jim Crow. My parents lived through this. After that we had the CIA flood innercities with drugs to fund wars. All this surrounded by systemic racism that kept Black people poor. The Black percentage of wealth in America has not changed since 1865.
