I agree some guys like Austin Slater and Yaz are outside of the top 26 players but what the Giants are doing is clear, they're keeping everyone. If they went with the kids some of these veteran role players would have needed to be removed from the team. Sending the kids down allows the Giants to keep them as roster depth and call them up during season if they're playing great or someone gets hurt. Way more flexibility this way. As for Bart I understand the concern for him but this is a business, the Giants will do whats best for the franchise. He also had many chances the last few years and almost got unanimously labeled a bust. He's playing well now and maybe the Giants will keep him around one last time and see if he keeps hitting? Hes worth a look cause he had a good spring. I heard they were just waiting for other teams to set their rosters before trying to get him through waivers. We'll see. Idk if its worth the risk. I like having 3 startable catchers within the organization and I kinda dont think he gets through waivers after playing so well this last month
They had all offseason to work out a trade. They now have a few more days. But at some point you have to move on and DFA him because 3 catchers is completely unsustainable and makes zero sense from a roster construction standpoint. It just sucks for him because it just hurts his chances at getting on another MLB roster quickly.
@@alexdureeferriss6869 I definitely think there are plenty of interested teams around the league, but when they showed their hand early that they were going with Bailey/Murphy teams aren’t going to give up anything for him and will just wait the Giants out. Supposedly there were like 5-7 teams waiting for him to get DFAd according to one of the writers (might have been Slusser but can’t remember for sure)
I kind of had a feeling Luciano would be sent down, but Matos should be an opening day starter. He was miles ahead of both Yaz and Conforto in spring training, not even close. You have a great young player, he needs the reps. Even if you bring him up for a couple of days when Yaz goes on paternity leave, where does that leave him when Yaz comes back. Is he the first guy up when the finally jettison Joey Bart.
Yeah it’s a tricky situation. I don’t think 12 pitchers is sustainable so when Bart gets moved I think it’ll be a pitcher. But maybe they try to keep Matos for a little longer.
I disagree. Matos's defense is shaky. He is often out of position when running down a fly. I've seen him numerous times run in on a ball only to catch it with his arm fully extended and 90 deg to his body. During Alex Cobb's no-hit attempt last season, Matos took the wrong angle on ball to right center that got past him - with 8-2/3 innings complete!
@@tommybotts Matos’ defense in the corners is more than acceptable, it actually graded out positively. I agree he shouldn’t be in CF though. Playing in SF is a difficult proposition for any incoming player and he should improve with experience. And I will die on the hill that I have nothing against him on that Cobb hit he gave up. A backspin, scorched line drive is the hardest to read off the bat. That ball just as easily could have had way less carry and dropped in front of him. Just an all around difficult one to get. Even with a perfect angle I don’t think he gets to it.
Some of these moves just had to be done. I love Matos and Luciano as a big part of out future and maybe even this year. Bart is on his last legs with the Giants and I'm actually pulling for him. Bailey could have been sent down as well to work on his hitting. 12 pitchers to start a season is plenty. When Yaz' wife has their kid, I'd imagine Matos is back.
Yeah I’m sure Matos will get the call but it’s only 3 days unfortunately with paternity leave. I’d really like them to make the “difficult” decision to move someone to clear the way for him. And I hope the best for Bart, hope he goes somewhere where he’s wanted.
Man I’m hoping Conforto has a solid year. He has legit middle of the order ability when he is at his best. So I’m happy to give him a shot (today was a nice start). But I’m so tired of the Yaz/Slater platoon.
This is the best way for Bart to get traded. He will be used as a pinch hitter in the meantime. Luciano needs more time in the minors. Matos is the one that bothers me. Matos should replace Slater, no doubt
Yeah it’s what’s best for the Giants, just feel for Bart that’s all. He’d have had a better chance at getting reeled into a backup job had they DFAd him after a trade didn’t materialize. But 100% agree, Luciano could afford more time but Matos being in Sac just sucks.
Love Matos and he will have a big part to play this season. Getting rid of Yaz/Slater doesn't make sense, though. Matos will be ready and hungry when one of them inevitably gets injured. Agree with you about Bart in that we should have just let him go. I do think Murphy's bat off the bench will be extremely valuable, just need Bailey not to get injured because Murphy's defense worries me.
Signings like Snell, Chapman, etc have covered up a lot of stupidity. Bullpen isn’t deep enough. They’re going to be in the same position @ 3rd & in the rotation a year from now. But more importantly, Murphy should’ve never been signed. He’s a DH, not a C. That guaranteed Bart was going to get screwed. & Yaz & Conforto haven’t been good enough in years. Matos earned his spot.
Bart is out of minor league options, they’re not going let another team claim him for free. Giants should package him and Austin Slater in a deal to either improve the bullpen or obtain a solid left handed bat off the bench. Bring Matos up…Yaz is a fan favorite but has been on a downward trajectory the last few years. They had no left handed bats on the bench today.
I would be THRILLED if they get whatever team trades for Bart to take Slater with him. And this is the danger of having multiple platoons, if you face a RHP your LH bench guys are starting. Thanks for the support!
Holiday got sent down for service time reasons. Matos has already had that happen last season so he still has 6 years of control. Little bit different situations there.
@@EYDShow Fair to say. My point however was that front offices have their reasons for doing these things, even though both Holiday and Matos would improve their respective teams short-term. Go Giants!
Only move that yes, pisses me off as well is, Matos not making the team! The Giants are ruining this kid!!! Whether it be Bart or Slater, get rid of one or both of these two… and God blessed Giants… give the rightfully deserved spot to Matos - permanently!!!
We BETTER see Matos! And soon! What more does he have to do to play?? Dude absolutely RAKED in AAA and spring training.

you CANT "let Bart go". He has value and you MUST get compensation

Bart doesn’t have much value at this point and getting compensation would require interest from another team, which is outside of our control
